COMMITTEE REPORTS FOR PRESIDENT S REPORT Tonight, we hold the 50th Annual General Meeting of our club, a milestone. Add 50 annual rallies and 50 club birthdays, is truly a momentous year. This twelve months past has seen much work done behind the scenes for our annual rally, recording of club history and preparation for our 50th Anniversary Dinner in September this year. Special thanks go to Ray Harrison, Julie Rockliff and Janelle Clout for making these events not just happen, but recorded as special occasions. The June rally this year saw a return to Club Members performing the entertainment at the rally night function, I thank all those involved for having a go and it was great to see. However, I will never look upon life member David Bredin in the same way! The last twelve months has seen the question arise regarding the best location for our club rooms together with many possibilities regarding the club s activities and funding. The future for our club has much support from not only authorities but also the community. I thank the outgoing committee for undertaking such a massive workload with the 50th year and I wish the new committee all the best for a successful 2018 and enjoyable future as we head into the next 50 years. President Rob Le Lievre VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT As the Vice President of the WWVVMC for the past four years, I hope as a member of the club I have contributed in a positive way to the running of our club. Generally the expected progression would be to take on the role as club President, however the next 12 months will see me travelling around Australia visiting family and good friends that both Clair and I established during our days working in Canberra Because I anticipate that I will be away for extended periods of time in the next twelve months, I feel that I could not commit to an executive position within the club during this period and do justice to the position. I hope to continue to make myself available to any of the sub committees within the club if asked, and to enjoy any events with fellow club members. Thanks you to all club members that have made my last four years as an executive member of the club, a rewarding and very enjoyable period. Vice President Bob Maslin TREASURER S REPORT Brian tabled the Annual statement and talked us through it It was moved by Brian Hanson and seconded by J Clay that Brian Hanson be authorised to make the following statements to NSW Fair Trading in the Annual Summary of Financial Affairs : The Clubs financial statements for the last financial year were presented to the members of the Club at the Annual General Meeting held on the 4 th August The particulars set out in the Annual Summary of Financial Affairs are correct and give a true and fair view of the financial matters to which they relate and are not misleading, and There are reasonable grounds top believe, at the date of this statement, that the Club will be able to pay its debts as and when they fall due Motion carried unanimously Treasurer Brian Hanson MAGAZINE EDITOR S REPORT I have enjoyed my first year as magazine editor. Great foundations were already in place and I just have to gather together items of interest from around the club. The more active members in the club are, the easier it is for me to find interesting items to share. It has been an amazing year with so much happening and a wonderful rally to celebrate our 50 th Year Page 3

4 The transition to me being the new editor was quite simple with the support of the magazine committee, and extras, who turn up and help every magazine night. Ian the events coordinator provides me with the events pages for the magazine and Janelle provides me with the minutes of the meetings. I also really appreciate the jokes and contributions that make filling a hole in the magazine much easier. So please continue to those to the magazine editor please. As all of you will know by now the old copier died a very untimely death, which left us in the lurch just before the rally. It s new replacement has been having some teething problems but I am sure will prove to be as reliable as the old one was. The added bonus is that it is capable of producing colour pages that should brighten up the magazine when there are lots of photos to look at. If there is ever anything of concern or you wish to add to the magazine please don t hesitate to pass it on to me. Thanks for a great year. A big thanks to John Rockliff for organising this venue, which we will also be using for this years registration day. A total of 62 vehicles were inspected during the year, with a small number still out of sync with our 30 th November expiry date, for various reasons. 5 vehicles were rejected with only 3 being reinspected on the second registration day. The 60 day log book trial seems to be working well, with most club members taking part in the scheme.. However Page 4

5 the trial will be finished soon and the RMS will be making a decision on whether to continue with the log book scheme or not. The RMS have asked for feedback from various clubs who participated in the scheme, which will be taken into consideration when making this decision. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my subcommittee members who helped out at registration day, and members who manned the barbeque, and the paperwork desk inside. Also, a big thanks to John Rockliff for taking over the Registration Officer duties nduring my absence last year. Yours in Historic Motoring Registration Officer Gerald Rainbird CLUB GROUNDSMAN S REPORT Thanks for the opportunity to be included in the Committee of W.W.V.V.M.C Inc. There have been a few activities in and around the Club Rooms during the past twelve months. The big project of the sealing of the car park has been put on hold due to the potential relocation of Club rooms to another site that could be made available from Community land from the Wagga Wagga City Council. This is in its early stage of planning and development and could represent an opportunity for the Club and members to acquire new Clubrooms and sealed car park and would be a huge leap forward for good clean and safe access to our clubrooms for members and guests. A lot of our members attended an escorted tour of potential sites that the Wagga Wagga City Council has indicated could be made available. There have been a couple of well supported working bees during the year to keep our clubroom and yard looking good, especially prior to our June Rally. New roadside display signage has been made to make set up and pack up much easier. I would like to thank everyone that assisted in getting these projects completed, very much appreciated. John Rockliff Club Grounds Officer PROPERY AND LIBRARY OFFICERS S REPORT The photo s of members vehicles on the wall are up to date. The leading light trophy has been repaired and the winners updated. David Campbell PUBLICITY OFFICER S REPORT I have just completed my third year as your Publicity Officer. I enjoy being in this position as I meet with all types of people, some are easy to work with and some are a challenge, but I find this rewarding and it keeps me on my toes. This year being our 50th, I was determined to get as much publicity as possible. I concentrated on the build up to the Rally. The Wagga Daily Advertiser and their Editor at that time was Daniel Johns. I did not get to meet Daniel but we became best friends on the phone. We started off with a one page feature spread on the merits of our club and what we do in the community as far as our donations to different charities and how many people we bring into the city. The second full page spread came about by bribery. I offered him the scoop on Malcolm Nixon's Daimler Bus. I told him the bus had never been featured or photographed by the press and this would be its debut, and then he really wanted the bus. So, Daniel and I made a deal he would get the scoop on the bus, and he would give me a full page interview in the paper and then put us on the internet. I did explain that it was a win, win situation for us both and he happily agreed. The Advertiser featured every event that preceded the Rally and then again at Downside. PRIME TV along with their reporter Sarah Navin gave us coverage on every event leading up to the Rally. I wanted to highlight the women in our club this year, so I organised a race with six of our ladies and their cars to line up and have a race around our car park and out the gate. Chris Holgate took too much pleasure in winning in her bright red Morris with the top down. They raced around the block coming back to the club rooms and all very happy with themselves. Sarah filmed this race and it was featured on PRIME TV news on that Friday night. Sarah was at Downside and did two feature stories. WIN TV did a segment for us at the Market Place highlighting Ray Harrisons Chev. They were at Downside and they also did two feature articles. I would like to thank Sue Kelly, Bob Maslin, Alison and David Bredin, Craig Kelly and Malcolm Nixon for their efforts in doing some impromptu interviews for me. I hope I haven't missed anyone. The Radio Stations I did not organise any of these interviews and I really appreciate those members who did, they being Bob Maslin, Rob LeLievre, Sue Kelly, Janelle Clout and Joel Harrison, We also had a special guest this year Mark Fletcher. Fletch took some footage of the rally on Saturday and he then attended Downside on Sunday where he did several interviews. All this footage was featured on his new show which is on 7 Mate TV on Saturday mornings. Myself and 5 other suckers are trying to make an entertaining movie of the Club, some of it's history, members and their cars for our 50th Anniversary which will be shown at our 50th Anniversary Dinner. Members beware I have found some excellent old videos and photos some are from the archives and they are of the good old days. Publicity Officer Julie Rockliff Page 5

In response to the question, "Do you have anyone dependent on you?" The man wrote: "2.1 million illegal immigrants, 1.1 million crackheads, 4.4 million unemployable scroungers, 80,000 criminals in over 85 prisons plus 450 idiots in Parliament, thousands of 'politicians' and an entire group that call themselves 'Senators' The ATO stated that the response he gave was unacceptable. 8 WWVVMC CLUB 50 TH ANNIVERSARY FILM Sunday 20 th August 12 midday To all the Members of the W.W.V&V.M.C. As I am sure most of you that know we are making a film in celebration for our 50th Anniversary. This film is well under way and I would like to incorporate as many of our current members and your vehicles as possible. On the 20 th August, at 12.00pm I have organised for the guy who is putting the film together to be present to film the inside of our club rooms. And then following this he is going to be filming us in front of our cars outside the club rooms. This footage will be used to end the film. It would be lovely to see as many members as possible with or without their cars. Parking in the club grounds will be for Club cars only. For those who can't bring their old cars for some reason, could you possibly park outside the grounds as I don't want any new cars in the film as it will spoil the ending. If you need to drop some passengers off please feel free to do so. For those bringing their cars could you please enter the gate, and then park along the brick wall so we can get as many cars in as possible. Then if you could please form the next line, and so on. Could you leave a space of about 5 cars in width between the slab of concrete at the front as I would appreciate this greatly. The reason for this is I would like the bikes to be parked in this area, as I feel they need to be together or they may get lost between the cars. Also, If the bikes could use half this space I would appreciate it as we will need the space to line up in front of the of the camera's. I feel this will give an updated look for the members and their cars. I think with the footage of our members and their cars will make a great ending. For those who would like to take part in the film with their families and cars, if could let me know please that would be great. My contact numbers are as below Please phone me on; Mobile: Many thanks, Julie Please note this is happening this weekend!!! Before our meeting got underway on the 4 th August Bob Maslin, on behalf of the Club, was very proud to hand over a cheque for $600 to the local branch of Cerebral Palsy Australia. The group services the Riverina region and comprised of a Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist, and an Occupational Therapist. The girls gave a very informative overview of what they do and how the money will be spent to help local children. Very interesting. The money was raised at our outdoor movie night. Bob thanked all the members who attended the night and made donations to the cause. A great night was had by all and we will try another night when the weather starts to warm up. Page 8

10 A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY The Three pointed star is a familiar brand. Yet despite this familiarity, the Mercedes Benz legend continues to fascinate in an extraordinary way. This is hardly surprising, for no other manufacturer has sustained its passionate preoccupation with the automobile for quite as long: Karl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler, and Willhelm Maybach were working on the future of the automobile even before they actually invented it in Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler never got to know each other and yet they had so much in common. Both dreamed mankind s old dream of the horseless vehicle. Their invention was to be given its name only at a later stage: the Automobile. Mannheim and the Stuttgart suburb of Cannstatt were no more than 100km apart. Even in the late 19 th century this was not a great distance, but it was far enough for the automobile to be invented twice and as a result of two very different approaches. This pioneering work changed the course of history. Their invention of the automobile and the motorisation of transport in general marked the beginning of a new era. The two inventors Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, could have crossed each others paths. Although they knew nothing of each other to begin with, Karl eventually learned of the existence of Daimler in They didn t see each other as threats, with Daimler focusing on a two wheel vehicle. The first modern automobile was created in Cannstatt in 1900 with nothing about it being reminiscent of the coach era anymore. The new model has the speed and the performance automobile enthusiasts had demanded. The first vehicle with the name Mercedes. Gottlieb Daimler originally founded Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) in 1890, while Carl Benz began Benz & Cie in Both businesses laid the foundation of motorised vehicle transportation. After Daimler passed away in 1900, chief engineer Wilhelm Maybach took over and brought on racing enthusiast Emil Jellinek as a partner. Jellinek s daughter Mercédès a Spanish girl s name meaning grace was the inspiration for the later trade name Page 10
