COMMITTEE REPORTS FOR 2016 PRESIDENT S REPORT 2016 has seen the 49 th year of our club coinciding with the 49 th running of a very successful June Rally. Thanks to Rally Director Ray Harrison and his team of workers, well done. The last twelve months has gone so fast mainly due to so much activity in the club, congratulations to those who have contributed to the events and thankyou Ian Holgate for directing our events. Over two years ago the decision was made to decommission the parts yard at Downside. Thankfully this was finalised during July 2016, I am pleased to report the club has gained $5, from the various sales and I thank all those that assisted. The Pinnacle of my term as president must be the Tour Tasmania March 2016 which saw 24 club members with 12 vehicles tour Tasmania for over thirty days. As tour guide I thoroughly enjoyed the trip as it reinforced the family nature of this club, great social interaction and looking out for one and other. Thanks to both Chris Billingham and Sue Kelly for helping organise and run the tour, a great team hails the 50 th year of our club, there is much to do to make this milestone memorable through events and recording our club s history. I thank the outgoing committee for all there help and loyalty over the past twelve months and I wish the new committee all the best for a very successful President Rob Le Lievre TREASURER S REPORT Brian tabled the Annual Statement and talked us through it. It was moved by Brian Hanson and seconded by A Cain that B Hanson be authorised to make the following statement to NSW Fair Trading in the Annual Summary of Financial Affairs. *The Club s financial statements for the last financial year were presented to the members of the Club at the Annual General Meeting held on 5 th August 2016, *The particulars set out in the Annual Summary of Financial Affairs are correct and give a true and fair view of the financial matters to which they relate and are not misleading, and *There are reasonable grounds to believe, at the date of this statement, that the Club will be able to pay its debts as and when they fall due. Motion carried unanimously. MAGAZINE EDITOR S REPORT This past year, we included a Ladies Page thanks to Sue Kelly. John Rockliff has continued to be the leading source of jokes, followed by Ruth Foster. Use of the attendance form on the club s web site plummeted from minimal to negligible so we have resurrected the Facebook page for club chat. Currently, members should friend Chris Billingham for access. I have enjoyed the Editor job for 5 years now but it is time for a change. I would like to thank my committee and also the extras who turn up regularly. We have the production line down to a fine art and can complete the job in an hour so long as the printer gets a heads start. The reduction in the number of magazines printed has resulted in considerable savings for the club. I would be happy to join the magazine committee, perhaps as the web man if invited by the new Editor. Stuart Le Lievre. REGISTRATION OFFICER S REPORT The first Registration inspection day was washed out and had to be rescheduled for the following weekend which provided much more pleasant whether conditions. Registration Inspection days were well represented with all vehicles passing inspection on either the first day with some vehicles required to be reinspected on the second day. There was another 5 vehicles inspected in January and February this year due to Registration expiry for these vehicles out of sync with 30 November expiry. These vehicles all passed and on my advice have since tried to address problem with the RMS to convert to the common expiry date. I believe there has been a very favourable take up of the log book scheme introduced by the RMS as a 2 year trial in December Log books will be subjected to inspection at next years inspection days, so make sure users of the scheme present log books on the day. The goal of these inspections is to ensure all vehicles registered in our club are maintained in a safe condition for themselves and other road users in accordance with club rules and RMS regulations. John Rockliff Temporary Registration Officer. RALLY DIRECTOR S REPORT 2016 has seen our 49 th Annual June Rally come and go with 151 entrants participating. This year our Saturday run ventured in a new direction down the Hume Highway on the dual carriageway to Holbrook for lunch and then through to Morven and on to Mangoplah for afternoon tea. Entrants enjoyed the many attractions in Holbrook including the Submarine, the 3D hologram presentation on Commander Holbrook, antique and books shops plus the Pottery Museum. Lunch at Holbrook was supplied by the Holbrook Loins Club with our club members helping out as required, while the East Wagga/Kooringal Sports and Citizens Auxiliary catered for both our Saturday and Sunday evening dinners at Gumly Hall. The Gods were with us again this year providing warm sunny winter weather for the traditional soup stop at Wantabadgery and our Public Display at Downside. As always, Downside again proved popular with both the entrants and the public. Outside entries from the public for the Special Interest Parking on the Sunday at Downside has double each year since its inception 2 years ago. This year over 100 vehicles were displayed in the area. No doubt this category will continue to grow and create additional interest if we wish to promote the idea during the Public Display. We again thank other clubs that turn up year after year to display their interests, machinery and operating skills. The Tumba Rail, the Pedal Car Club plus the various Traction, Tractor and Engine displays certainly enhance our day. We must not forget the time and effort put in each year by the members of these clubs to help make our day a success. We would particularly like to congratulate the Wagga Historic Engine Club for walking their Robey Traction Engine out to Downside this year. Not a small feat by anyone s imagination. Last year external caterers were introduced for both the Saturday and Sunday evening meals to reduce the workload on club members over the Rally Weekend. This policy was continued this year with the addition of the Saturday Lunch also being let out to caterers. I believe that for our Rally to continue and be successful we must attempt to implement suitable changes to find a happy medium where members are able to enjoy our Rallies, but also be prepared to put in a decent effort to ensure our Rally remains unique. This year our Rally Committee attempted to make the Saturday a work-free day for our members as much as possible, so they could participate in the events on the day. Sunday was declared a work day where all members were asked to hop in and work on the day. And it worked extremely well. Over 80% of our club members got involved on the day. As a Rally Director - this is a sign that our club is healthy and going forward in the right direction. We have had a lot of new members in the past couple of years and all is working well. We have to move forward - but at the same time

5 remember the traditions that have made our Rally one of the most successful rallies on the Annual Calendar. Finally I would like to thank our Rally Committee and all the members that helped make our 49 th Annual June rally another successful event. Thank you for your support. Lets all get fired up for our 50 th in 2017 What a milestone. Ray Harrison CLUB GROUNDSMAN S REPORT Thanks for the opportunity to be included in the Committee of W.W.V.V.M.C Inc. There have been a number of activities in and around the Club Rooms during the past twelve months. We started off with the completion of our fantastic cupboard and display cabinet with final setting up of storage, library and trophies. Store rooms in and out were cleaned out and sorted which has given us a lot more room and much easier to find and locate equipment. The storage container out back was completely emptied out and shelving installed to west wall which enabled items to be stored off the floor giving a lot more room and accessibility. Triangle garden on the west side of clubrooms has been turfed and watering system has been extended from the rose garden to irrigate. Projects that are still ongoing include signage or mural on the western entry to the club rooms, lighting for the entry and car parking and bollards installed to restrict vehicle access on the west side footpath. The mystery of the very wet lawn area on south west corner of clubrooms continues, but spring time is scheduled for the water diviners to move in and locate fault. The big project that has just begun is of coarse the sealing of the car park. This is in its early stage of planning and development and will represent a huge leap forward for good clean and safe access to our clubrooms for members and guests. I would like to thank everyone that assisted in getting these projects completed, very much appreciated. John Rockliff PROPERTY AND LIBRARY OFFICER S REPORT During the past year the club had the cupboards, bookshelves and display cabinets installed. Ray Harrison, the previous property officer created a spreadsheet of all library resources housed in the book case for all members to access. The printed version of the spreadsheet is available in the front cupboard. I am sending a copy to Stu to put on the website for members to browse at home. New keys were organised due to the age of the old ones. Old keys were returned and marked off and a new spreadsheet has been created with the new key records. Frames, labels and photograph procedure for club room walls seems to be going smoothly. Outstanding work: The club has had some vehicle work manuals donated. These still need to be sorted through to decide what should be kept and catalogued and what can be disposed of. Thanks Sue Kelly PUBLICITY OFFICER S REPORT I have enjoyed my second term as your publicity officer. I have organised different fractions of the press to attend all the events leading up to our 49 th Rally. They also attended Downside and did a feature on Merv s Ford. On Saturday Morning of this years Rally, Daryl McGuire MP came and flagged the cars off for the start. Whilst we walked and talked, Daryl asked me if there was anything he could do for us for our 50 th, and while dodging mud puddles and wet grass, he felt we really needed a car park. He went on to specify what his thoughts were on the matter and asked me to obtain 3 quotes and a letter of Club history and outlining what we have in mind for our 50 th. So a committee meeting was called, levels taken of the area and designs drawn up as we agreed upon. The plans, specifications and quotes were presented to Daryl by Brian Hanson and myself on 5 August I have also spoken to Sarah Navins at WIN TV in regard to doing a special segment for us Ladies and what we like about our Club and also the cars. I shall need a few of our Ladies to dress up in the 1920 / 30 era and then go for a drive and this will be filmed and shown on WIN TV prior to next years Rally, our 50 th. The University have also shown interest in making a short film for us about our Club history and include archives for members to enjoy. This will be done by there film production students as part of there coarse. The efforts of Jim and David Bredin established the very successful and on-going Mid-Week Run. MID WEEK RUN 20 JULY 2016 This was our second attempt at a Midweek Run this month as by date it should have been the week before (13th) and a few of us did go for a run to Uranquinty Bakery. However, there was a bit of confusion with the date and many believed it was the 20th and others didn t get notice of the date change in time (new mail arrangements delay the magazine etc). Some of our regulars were also involved with the Downside cleanup working Bee on the 13th, so it was thought to give the run another opportunity on the 20th. We had 13 members attend the run which was also by the way a re run to the Uranquinty Bakery via the new Kapooka Overpass. LAUGHTER THE BEST MEDICINE THE DONKEY It was a fine spring day in Father O Malley s new parish. He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep breath. It was a beautiful day outside - but then he noticed there was a donkey lying dead in the middle of his front lawn. He promptly called the local police station. The conversation went like this: "Good morning. This is Sergeant Jones. How might I help you?" "And the best of the day te yerself. This is Father O'Malley at St. Ann's Catholic Church. There's a donkey lying dead in me front lawn and would ye be so kind as to send a couple o'yer lads to take care of the matter?" Considering himself to be quite a wit and recognizing the Irish accent, Sergeant Jones thought he would have a little fun with the good father. He replied, "Well now Father, it was always my impression that you people took care of the last rites!" There was dead silence on the line for a moment... Then Father O'Malley replied, "Aye, 'tis certainly true, but we are also obliged to notify the next of kin first, which is the reason for me call." Contributed by Ruth Foster

10 Ladies Page Bone Health What you can do Include in your diet cereals, vegetables, legumes (e.g. lentils, beans), fruit, milk, yoghurt, cheese, lean meat, fish, poultry and nuts. To meet daily calcium requirements include: two serves of dairy, a serve of calcium-rich foods such as broccoli, beans, almonds, tinned salmon or sardines. Maintain vitamin D by trying for 10 minutes of sun exposure daily without sunscreen (15-20 minutes in winter) the main source of vitamin D is sunlight. Test your vitamin D levels with a blood test so your doctor can advise if you need supplements. Weight bearing exercise, where bones and muscles work against gravity, is the key to good bone health. Replace caffeine drinks with water and herbal teas. Have 1 alcoholic drink a day but aim for at least 1-2 alcohol free days a week. If you stop smoking you can cut your risk of bone fracture from osteoporosis by half. Some medications lead to increased bone density hormone replacement therapy (HRT) increases bone density but its effects last only whilst you are taking it. If you have had an early or premature menopause you should have regular bone scans to monitor your bone density and be on HRT if applicable, to reduce risk of osteoporosis. If you have/have had an eating disorder, get regular checks of your bone strength. If you have an illness, or are taking medication that increases your risk of osteoporosis, discuss the possible effects with your doctor and have regular testing of bone density. Medications that might affect bone density include long-term corticosteroid medications used to treat asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn s disease or thyroxine for hypothyroidism. Ref: Jean Hailles Health Wagga Wagga City Flag Did you know that we have a city flag? In 1965 Council adopted a City Flag, at the time it negotiated a "Coat of Arms" through the College of Arms in London. The flag was designed by Mr H Ellis Tomlinson, MA, FHS. The stalks of wheat and other motifs incorporated in the design were suggested by Council. The design of the city flag was taken from the central motif of the shield of the Coat of Arms, with the design being made square.
