7 Proposed Theme The proposed theme of the Congress will be, Harmonization of Radiation Protection Principals. We will not limit sessions to differences that may exist between countries in approaches to the regulatory processes but also to differences within the protection community itself.

8 General Topics for Harmonization Regulatory standards (or guidance) for protection of the worker, the public, the patient and the environment. The models used for radiation protection, such as LNT, and the definition and components of radiation detriment Terminology & Definitions used by ICRP and NCRP remain inconsistent. How can they be harmonized?

9 General Topics for Harmonization How can ethical principals be incorporated into a system of protection. Can a harmonized approach to communicating radiation risks and issues be developed? Issues of emergency response and preparedness should be consistent across nations.

10 General Topics for Harmonization There is a need for international guidance on TENORM such as waste management from hydraulic fracturing. Nuclear Power is rapidly expanding around the world. Shouldn t issues of safety, protection zones, waste storage and processing all be harmonized? Even the approaches for astronauts should be harmonized. There are different risk models for going to Mars!
