1 ParksLetter International President: Dong Kurn Lee The Sydney Opera House in Australia is illuminated with an End Polio Now message 23 February. The message was projected onto a number of iconic landmarks worldwide in honor of Rotary's 104th anniversary. It was good to be back and a sincere thank you and congratulations to Jeff Mattner for volunteering to take on the important role of President of the Rotary Club of Adelaide Parks for He was elected unopposed. The RI theme is The Future Of Rotary Is In Your Hands. Rotary should be fun. Fellowship and fun is an important part of Rotary. We have Guess Whose Coming To Dinner to look forward to in August (probably) and a Burnside Club Visit in the future plus a Membership Development Night. The board has agreed to sponsoring two riders in the Bike Challenge in September Adelaide To Melbourne for $2000. I wish AG Eric Russell the best of luck as he applies for the position DG of District 9500 in the future, the members supported Eric s application last week and a hastily organised executive meeting endorsed that support. It would be great for Adelaide Parks Rotary Club to have its first District Governor, it could even improve membership growth, now there s a thought! District 9500 District Conference in Mt. Gambier is on this w/e and I am travelling down with Graham Fussen, President of Tea Tree Gully Club and Chair of Safe Water Saves Lives (SWSL) at 6.30am Thursday morning. I am the bell ringer at the conference (they give all the important jobs to AG S like Eric). I still do not have a bell to ring so if anyone has a school bell eg Pat Cardone can they bring it to the meeting Wednesday night.(if I had a hammer I d hammer in the morning you know the tune!). The quiz night is rapidly approaching, have you organised a table of friends or enemies or even family. Please support our major fundraiser of the year because the funds go to ARHRF the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund. ARHRF aims to encourage and stimulate the promotion of good health in Australia. The ARHRF is a community service program of the Rotary clubs of Australia and is on of the largest independent research funds in Australia. Since establishment it has given more than $10 million to Australian health research. Website :- We have a Board meeting tonight. President Keith 2
3 SNOW PLOW One winter morning at breakfast a couple was listening to the radio. They heard the announcer say, "We are going to have 8-10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through." The wife went out and moved her car.. A week later while they are eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting inches of snow today, you will need to move your car to the odd-numbered side of the street so the snowplow can get through." So the wife went out and moved her car again. The next week, while they were eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting inches of snow today and you must park..." Then the power went off! The wife was very upset. With a worried look on her face she said, "Honey, I don't know what to do. Which side of the street am I supposed to park on?" With the love and understanding in his voice that all men who are married to blondes exhibit, her husband said, "Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time. 4 As I have not received any information form either Pres Keith or AG Eric, I m not able to give you any information on the District Conference in Mt Gambier But what I can tell you is that there was a district conference in Hobart last weekend at the Grand Chancellor Hotel. We went past it but did not manage to find out which district it was, but they made the news on the weekend when the entire hotel had to be evacuated due to smoke coming from a plant room. The Rotary Conference got particular mention in the news, along with a Rotarian who explained that everything was taken in its stride, and all was OK. I wonder if anything equally exciting occurred in Mout Gambier?!!!! Last week, Sergeant George was severely embarrassed by the lack of members participating in their rostered activities. Whilst we know everyone in the club is busy, it behoves us all to ensure that we organise someone else to do our rostered activity if we cannot make it to a meeting. PLEASE make a phone call to another member and make your arrangements 4
5 Bill Gates would be proud to see his staff getting plenty of fresh air Mujibar was trying to get a job in India. The Personnel Manager said, "Mujibar, you have passed all the tests, except one. Unless you pass it, you cannot qualify for this job." Mujibar said, "I am ready." The manager said, "Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink and Green." Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, "Mister manager, I am ready" The manager said, "Go ahead." Mujibar said, "The telephone goes green, green, and I pink it up, and say, 'Yellow', this is Mujibar." Mujibar now works at a call center. No doubt you have spoken to him. I know I have. 5

8 Early this year, some Boeing employees on the airfield decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and home. Shortly after they took it for a float on the river, they noticed a Coast Guard helicopter coming toward them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locater beacon that activated when the raft was inflated. They are no longer employed at Boeing A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all of the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of Scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf. He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but the cashier refused and said, 'Because I do not believe you are over 21.' The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it > to him because she didn't believe him. At this point, the robber took his driver's license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk. The clerk looked it over and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and she put the Scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot. The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that he got off the license. They arrested the robber two hours later
