3 NDIASC Hamad International Airport Baladiyat ad Dawhah - Project Profile The New Doha International Airport Steering Committee (NDIASC) is planning to construct a new international airport in Doha, Qatar. The project involves the construction of a new international airport on a 2,900ha area. The project is being implemented in three phases. The first phase of the project includes the construction of a passenger terminal with a capacity of 30 million passengers a year, two parallel runways located 2km from each other which are designed for simultaneous take-offs and landings; the first is 4,850m 60m and the second is 4,250m 60m runway. The project will include the construction of a 600,000m2 three-story terminal with 22 remote gates and 41 contact gates, the construction of retail facilities and 16 passenger lounges over 40,000m2 area, Aircraft Maintenance Center, a cargo facility with a capacity of 1.4 million tonnes a year, a General Aviation Terminal, a hangar, a courier and mail facility and three road interchanges. The project also includes the construction of three concourses, which will subsequently increase to five, 17 new counters, new access roads and kerbside drop-off point to the east of the main terminal building, 47 new economy check-in counters, more than 100 food and beverage retail outlets, a 100-room transit hotel, a swimming pool, new baggage carousels, a luxury spa, squash courts and a four-story catering facility, a public mosque with a capacity to accommodate 500 worshippers at prayer time, a communications center, multi-story short-term and long-term parking and other related facilities. Concourse A includes the construction of 10 passenger gates connected to jet bridges and is located west of the check-in area and Main Terminal. Two of the gates can handle the Airbus A380. Concourse B includes the construction of 10 passenger gates connected to jet bridges and is located east of the check-in area. It also includes a small coffee shop located at the end of Concourse B, as well as smoking rooms, family areas, and an express duty-free store. Concourse C includes the construction of 13 passenger gates connected to jet bridges, two of them built for the Airbus A380. There will be a number of remote gates without a fixed jet bridge link connected to Concourse C. The second phase of the project includes the construction of 24 contact gates, expansion to the terminal building by 900,000m2 to handle 50 million passengers a year. It also includes the construction of concourses D and concourse E, which increases the size of the overall airport terminal by 400,000m2 to more than 100,000m2 and 1.3km long concourse with a width of 60m and includes the construction of more gates, additional retail and business facilities and a hotel. The third phase of the project includes the expansion of the terminal building to handle 70 to 90 million passengers a year. It also includes the construction of second passenger terminal. The scope of work also includes the dredging and reclamation and the construction of a catering facility, operations facilities, airside/landside roadways and airline support facilities. 3

4 Bechtel Ltd has been awarded a contract to develop the project. The scope of the contract includes design, construction management, and project management of the new facilities. Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK) out of its San Francisco office will provide architecture, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering and landscape architecture services for the first phase of the Passenger Terminal Complex. Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick & Co. Ltd has been appointed as airport consultant in overall charge of the design works. GHD Global PTY LTD has been appointed as EIA consultant, Al Hamed Development and construction, Fairgreen International JV as Landscape contractor, Buro Happold to provide structural and facade engineering services along with construction management oversight. Halcrow has been awarded a contract for designing of operational buildings like a main fire station, general aviation terminal and hangar, solid waste collection facilities, administration buildings, workshops, and an employee mosque, canteen, and medical center. WorleyParsons undertook the detailed design and provided procurement and construction support for all elements of Water and Utility Systems for the airport. Foster + Partners has been appointed as architect. In December 2004, a contract for reclamation works was awarded to a consortium of four dredging firms, led by Dutch dredger, Royal Boskalis Westminster. Other members of the group are Qatar Dredging Company, Dredging International and Great Lakes Dredging & Dock Company. Al Jaber Engineering and Transport was appointed as excavation contractor. In May 2006, Takenaka Corporation received an order for the construction of Emiri Terminal, parking structure, and a new mosque as part of the project in a joint venture with Construction Development Company. In April 2007, the US$75 million contract for IT, security, and telecommunication systems at the airport was awarded to a consortium of ARINC Inc. and Thales. In October 2007, FKI Logistex won the baggage handling order for the airport. Six Construct has been appointed as foundations contractor for the first phase of the project. JV of Sinohydro, Gamuda, WCt was appointed as engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for Airfield paving, tunnel and detention ponds. The Midmac Contracting Company has been appointed as foundation contractor and landside roadways contractor for the project. Sky Oryx Joint Venture between TAV Construction and Taisei was appointed as EPC contractor for Phase I main Terminal and Concourses A, B &C and Phase II. In Q1 2011, TAV and Taisei commenced construction. Butec was appointed as EPC contractor for the terminal operation center & Qatar airway operation control center. Zublin International Qatar LLC was appointed as EPC contractor for duty-free warehouse facilities. 4

5 Gulf Contracting was appointed as the contractor for the NDIA fuel system and NDIA engineering facilities. Ardex Americas was appointed as the installation subcontracto and Technical Glass And Aluminium Company L.L.C. as facade contractor for control tower. CCC-TCC Joint venture has been appointed as contractor for construction of administrative building blocks, medical centre, employees village, general aviation hanger and general aviation terminal. Permasteelisa Gartner Qatar Llc has been awarded the contract to supply 52,000m2 of curtain walls and louvers for the third phase of the project. In July 2012, the construction works on th air traffic control tower was completed. Amana Walbridge JV has been appointed for constructing the new Doha International Airport Staff Access Control Facility. Amana Walbridge JV appointed TransCore to deploy radio frequency identification (RFID)-based parking and car/bus terminal access control system for authorised staff of the New Doha International Airport Authority in November The first phase of the project was initially planned for completion by But due to repeated delays, the first phase was expected to become operational by April 1, However, the completion date was again postponed to the end of Finally, in April 2014, the first phase began operating with nearly 40 counters, 20 each for entry and exit of passengers. Of the 138 check-in counters and 50 passport control desks, 40 are currently operational. Bemo-USA has been appointed as a roofing contractor. The scope of the contract is to provide a field curved 16ga (1.6mm) deck, welded 14ga (2mm) structural zees, two layers of high-density Rockwool insulation 7.9-inch (200mm) 5/8cm (15.8mm) primed cover board, the BEMO Extreme HT 40mil self-adhering underlayment and then the 22ga BEMO 400mm panels. In December 2014, the approval for the third phase of the project was obtained. The project is being funded by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture of the State of Qatar, Government of Qatar. In November 2015, a US$76.11 million contract for the second and third phase was awarded to Consolidated Engineering Construction Co. (CEC) Under the terms of the deal, CEC will build additional taxiways and reclaim land on the northwest tip of the property by filling in a body of water previously referred to as a naval base lagoon, increasing the size of the airport by 110ha. In January 2017, Civil Aviation Authority is planning to issue a tender for the expansion of third phase. Design activities are completed on the project. 5
