GLEN JUNOR has one of the largest herds of registered and commercial Belted Galloways in Australia, with approximately 100 breeding females. The herd was formed in 2016 with the purchase of registered and commercial cattle; they have kindly offered to show us the herd as part of the 2017 ABGA Annual General Meeting weekend. We hope to see you all in July at the farm. Glen Junor is a historical pastoral farm in Gisborne, Victoria. The farm comprises of 525 acres of improved pasture, with 2 kilometres of Jackson s Creek incorporated along it s boundary. Most of the improvements to the land were made over the past few decades by legendary Melbourne Cup jockey Harry White, who retired to the farm after his racing career came to an end. Many of Harry s favourite horses retired to the farm with him. Think Big (Melbourne Cup winner in 1974 and 1975) and Hyperno (Winner of the Melbourne Cup in 1979) are buried on the farm. The McCamley and Kehoe families purchased Glen Junor from Harry in 2015 and soon after a herd of Belted Galloways were grazing the paddocks once only reserved for

2 champion race horses. Glen Junor is now a partnership between our two families. The McCamley s manage the farming projects and the Kehoe s are managing the environmental projects that the farm is also involved. If you require DNA Forms and/or hair collection kits please contact the office. Completed forms and tail hair samples or semen samples can be sent directly to Zoetis. Samples sent directly will cost members $33 so please include a cheque with your form and sample. If you could like to send your form and hair kit through the ABGA office, this will cost members $44. If you do not send payment to Zoetis with your sample, ABGA will be invoiced and the office will then invoice the members $44. 5 FIELD DAY: FREEDOM RISE Up-Date and Reminder- Field Day Freedom Rise Stud, Yarraman, Queensland Sunday 23rd April 2017 Just a reminder about our Field Day, and an update of the day. Place: Freedom Rise Belted Galloway Stud, D Aguilar Hwy, Yarraman, South East Queensland Date: Sunday 23 rd April 2017 Cost: $10 per head to cover food, and $5 for children. Firstly, the day is shaping up to great day for all participants. So far we have confirmed attendees from all three associations in Australia that represent the Galloway Family of cattle; as well as owners of Dexter and Mini Hereford Studs. People are coming from as far away as Melbourne, Cessnock, Armidale, Texas, and Mackay in Nth Qld. The day is going to be a fantastic networking opportunity for all attendees. Here s what your day will look like: 8:30-9:30 am: Tour of property, mix and mingle and on-the-go Q&A. 9:30am: Morning Tea with muffins on the menu 10am: Our local Vet Kathy will be giving a two part talk: One will deal cattle Vaccinations (with particular emphasis on those needed in the SE QLD/Nth NSW area). Kathy will be discussing the various pathogens involved and how the vaccines work. Time permitting, we ll get a demonstration of how and where to inject the vaccines. The second part will be on Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI). This is a system of AI that allows animals to be AI d and calve at the same time. This will be particularly important to those of you who have more than one cow, but do not want to have to keep a bull. 11am: Ear Tattooing and applying NLIS and other tags. We ve got several animals to do, and the lighter coloured ears of our red animals will make it easier for you to see the results. 12pm-1pm: Lunch and Raffle Draw. We ve got a great halter and lead set that s been donated by the Cattle Clobber ( as first prize. All proceeds will go towards hosting the World Galloway conference in Adelaide in pm- Cattle breaking. We feel that this is one of the most important ways to increase the value of your animals if you are aiming to sell to the hobby market/small acreage owners. We ll have at least six animals to work with, all in different stages of breaking. We ll show you how to do that initial and crucial first tie-up. Everyone who wants to will be able to participate. We will have our Computer set up so that we can show you how to use the Australian Galloway Association & Australian Belted Galloway Association websites and well as the NLIS website. For those who are able to stay longer, we will be conducting further training classes on Monday

6 Morning (after a nice breakfast for those who want one) Don t forget, if you have any animals to sell, please let us know and well create a page for attendees to look at. For catering purposes, please R.S.V.P as soon as possible, but no later than 18 th April If you have any special dietary requirements please let us know. INVENTORY Thank you to all of the members who have returned their 2017 Herd Inventory. If you are having issues, please contact the office. WEBSITE The Australian Belted Galloway website has been updated. There are still a few changes to be made. Members can list Stock For Sale for 3 months on the website. If you d like to advertise using this medium, please the information to the office. Photos can be included as well. If members have photos of their cattle that the office can use on the website, Facebook or in the Journal, please don t hesitate to send them in to the office. SHED CARDS FOR SHOWS Those members who wish to have shed cards for their cattle for shows, please don t hesitate to contact the office. We have them in the office. Members can request for them to be laminated or not.
