Past President Michael Evans gave a summary of the past year s events and highlighted all the areas our club has supported over many years plus our achievements during his time as President.

2 Handover Meeting The Rotary Club of Ascot Handover Meeting was held on Sunday 14 July at The Fire House Bar & Restaurant on Great Eastern Highway. For the first time this was a breakfast meeting and was very successful. Past President Michael Evans gave a summary of the past year s events and highlighted all the areas our club has supported over many years plus our achievements during his time as President. We saw funds raised and distributed accordingly to both Foundation and various projects the club has been working on. Further highlights on the day were 3 Paul Harris Fellows being awarded to none other than Ron Alexander, Gerry McLernon and Max Morrell. As Max was unable to attend our handover this was presented at our first meeting with all detail below in our first bulletin. In addition to these awards, Rotarian of the Year was awarded to Max Morrell based on his excellent efforts during his term as Vocational Director, and again all details below. The Rotary Club of Ascot awarded Centurion Club Certificates at the meeting. Details below. Finally AG Joe Byl undertook the induction of our newest President Julia Temby who will proudly guide our club through As her first duty our President introduced to the meeting her new Board.

Foodbank WA is a nondenominational, not for profit organisation, established in Perth in Foodbank WA provides a bridge of support between the food industry and community support agencies looking after Western Australians in need, many of whom are children. Foodbank WA is supported by over 500 companies and outreaches to over 600 community agencies. There are regional branches of Foodbank in Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton a Mandurah. District Monthly Information District Governor / Rotary District 9465 Erwin Biemel Rotary Club of Willetton (Wife: Carol) Erwin Biemel joined the Rotary Club of Willetton in District 9470 in 1998 He has served in various roles including, Bulletin Editor, International Director, Vocational Director, Club Service Director, and President in as well as running the Books for Philippines Project. He has been recognized by his club for service to Rotary receiving the Rotarian of the Year award and PHF with Sapphire. Erwin was appointed as Treasurer of Foundation for District 9470 serving in this role for three years and District New Generations Director for a further three years. He also was director of RYLA and a member of the RYLA- RYPEN committee. During this period Erwin was requested by DG Robin Thorpe to formulate a District Working with Children Policy. The policy has subsequently been adopted by both Districts in WA. During the Rotary Year he has continued his role as New Generations Director for District He has been recognized for his service to Rotary by District 9470 with a second Sapphire PHF in and District Rotarian of the Year in Erwin married Carol in 1979; they have three children Anton, Michelle and Fiona. He and Carol have lived in Leeming for the last 33 years.

Erwin subsequently joined the Rotaract Club of Rossmoyne before being invited to join the Rotary Club of Willetton in January Erwin is the principal architect of Erwin Biemel and Associates and Managing Director of Biemel s Cabinet Hardware. He attended Curtin University to study architecture, graduating in He commenced his own architectural practice in 1980 before purchasing the family business a few years later. His hobbies include Travel and Trout Fishing in the forests of our South West. Assistant Governor / Rotary District 9465 Joe Byl - Rotary Club of Kenwick (Wife: Sheila) AG for Inner City including Rotary Clubs of Ascot, Bentley-Curtin, Cannington, Kenwick, Southern Districts Joe was invited to join the Rotary Club of Kenwick in 1988; and has held the positions of Community and International Director, Secretary, Sergeant and President and Joe is a Foundation Benefactor, Centurion and has been recognised as a multiple Paul Harris fellow. Joe has served District 9470 as District Group representative, Secretary, Chair ARHR, Chair Ambassadorial Scholars, GSE committee member and GSE team leader to the Netherlands in Joe has attended Rotary International conventions in Melbourne l993, Singapore l999 and Brisbane 2003, Bangkok Joe is a Financial Adviser and part owner of Gold Financial-Pty Ltd. Joe is married to Sheila; they have three daughters and five grand daughters. In his spare time Joe enjoys losing himself in his workshop making tomorrow s antiques. Club Reports: As our first meeting for the year with our latest and newest President Julia, it was a settling in meeting with no reports. This section will no doubt be filled in with lots of information from our various chair-people on the board. Special Achievements Paul Harris Fellows This year we had the privilege of 3 recipients receiving this award. No other than - Ron Alexander and Max Morrell members of our club and a partner of a member of our club - Gerry McLernon. These gentlemen have displayed continued support and commitment to our club goals and achievements at an extremely high level and are, therefore, very worthy recipients.

Centurion Awards Centurion Club personal donations to TRF. Our club can be proud to become a Centurion Club with 100% of our members contributing $100 to Rotary Foundation.

6 Centurion Awards Centurion Club personal donations to TRF. Our club can be proud to become a Centurion Club with 100% of our members contributing $100 to Rotary Foundation. The Centurion Club is a way for Rotarians and Friends of Rotary to make a small regular personal contribution to the Rotary Foundation. These donations are tax-deductible. First timers to this award are: Bev Poor and Max Morrell. Rotarian Of The Year None other than Max Morrell. This is better than the Oscars. Scooped the pool in all categories. Special Items Bev Poor has asked that the information below, ed to her by Carol Hanlon, CEO of the Belmont Business Centre, is circulated to all Club Members and anyone interested please contact Bev. The time has come to finally pack the 20ft container of donated sewing items to depart for the Philippines. We are calling on all the support and assistance of our 'volunteer army of arms and legs of packers' and please bring your trolley as well. WHEN - 9am, Saturday 27th July WHERE - Flash Pan Mobile Truck Wash, 5 Fairbrother St, Belmont (next to the Belmont BEC) MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK! This is now our 4th container of donated sewing items going to assist the 29+ village sewing centres in regional Philippines to Ormoc, Leyte province. The container will be delivered to Fremantle Port then to Cebu Port, unpacked and transported by ferry (2hrs) to Ormoc. Thanks to all those that have donated items to assist this very worthwhile community livelihood enterprise project that has grown to provide encouragement and assistance to over 250 women and men in the villages Ormoc.

As a reminder, even though we still call it Powerball the winning number each week is the first number drawn on a Tuesday evening in Oz Lotto. No one is around, so he starts searching for the source. He finally locates the origin and finds it is coming from a grave with a headstone that reads "Ludwig van Beethoven, ". Then he realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played backward! Puzzled, he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with him. By the time they arrive back at the grave, the music has changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony, but like the previous piece, it is being played backward. Curious, the men agree to consult a music scholar. When they return with the expert, the Fifth Symphony is playing, again backward. The expert notices that the symphonies are being played in the reverse order in which they were composed, the 9th, then the 7th, then the 5th. By the next day the word has spread and a crowd has gathered around the grave. They are all listening to the Second Symphony being played backward. Just then the graveyard's caretaker ambles up to the group. Someone in the group asks him if he has an explanation for the music. "I would have thought it was obvious" the caretaker says. "He's decomposing."
