1 CLUB OFFICERS LOOKS EAST The Weekly Newsletter of The Rotary Club of Ipswich East Edition th January 2016 Club website : Orwell Walk Website: FaceBook page: Charity Number: Tuesday 12th January Lunchtime - bell rings at 12.55pm Business Meeting Duty Rotarians: Colin Davies & Kevin Day David West President of Ipswich Rotary Club On our first meeting of 2016 we welcomed David West, President of our mother club, the Rotary Club of Ipswich. David wore his very impressive presidential chain, which in itself, is a history of well known Ipswich names from the last ninety years. It is 75,000 worth of solid gold. He said he only wore it to demonstrate what to do when the number of bars outgrows the space available! David s talk was prompted by District Assembly s suggestion that greater inter-club involvement was necessary to secure Rotary s future. Our President, Michelle, had addressed their club two weeks earlier. David detailed his club s very extensive activities throughout the year which illustrated how vibrant and involved in the community are all his members. Many of the events mirrored our own club, some of which we work on together very successfully, with the food collection for FIND as an example. Maybe there are opportunities to support each other with more events, but when two clubs can show such outstanding contribution to the community, the need for amalgamation does not appear to be an issue. Following questions, President Michelle thanked David for his excellent talk and wished him and his Club continued success in all its endeavours. Stuart Cooper President: Michelle Bevan-Margetts President Elect: John Button Vice President: Nigel Farthing Secretary: Tony Baker Asst Secretary: Martin Westlake Treasurer: Neil Hewitt - Birthdays January Matt Kennington John Moorby John Goodship Bill Pipe Ray Walters Andy Lewis Dick Jeffery Eva Alcerreca Ian Lord LUNCH Roast Lamb All meals have been pre-ordered and cannot be changed on the day. First of all, I would like to take this as an opportunity to send my New Years Greetings to you and your Club. We all wish you and all members Health, Luck and God s Grace for the New Year 2016! As discussed we will meet for the Christmas Market this year in Bad Salzuflen and we are looking forward to this meeting. As a matter of fact our Club s summer tour (President s Journey) will go to Trier in June. (10th to 12th) Perhaps someone would like to join our summer tour as well, thus I enclose some further information. Trier is Germany s oldest city (16 B.C.) and has a rich history. Our plans are wine-tasting at one of the famous Wine Yards at the Saale River, a historical city tour through Trier, a visit of Triers major exhibition and some spare time with friends. I attach the information about the major exhibition in form of a leaflet (reproduced on next two pages. Ed). Hotel, bus and food will cost about 260 EUR per person. (You will also need to get to Germany of course. Ed) Please inform your club and if by chance someone would like to join us, please let us know asap. Hope to see you later this year! Moritz Can t attend Rotary Lunch? Please David Knights at mail@davidbrown-ipswich.co.uk or ring by 1pm on Monday It s important we order the right number of meals to help the kitchen maintain their high standard. 3
