To schedule your ride today, call the Dodge City Public Transportation office at Community Recycling Environmental Waste (CREW)/Keep Dodge City Beautiful (KDCB) has organized an America Recycles Day event that will take place on Saturday, November 3, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Fire Training Center (old municipal swimming pool) parking lot located at 2101 N 1st Avenue. View the attached flyer for what will be accepted. 3. Last weekend, the City of Dodge City hosted the Mexican Consulate Mobile Services at City Hall to provide documentation services to residents of Dodge City and Southwest Kansas. During their operation, they served over 250 Mexican Nationals to whom they issued Mexican Passports and Mexican ID cards. These documents are available to Mexican Nationals living abroad and serve as an identification document. The Mexican Consulate is expected to bring mobile services back to Dodge City in The Cultural Relations Advisory Board will host a Social Hour on Friday, November 9 at 10:30 am at the Dodge City Public Library. This is an opportunity to learn more about what the board does and meet the board members. For more information, please contact Melissa McCoy at (620)

5 5. Richard Falcon, a part-time bus driver for the Dodge City Public Transportation and part-time Amtrak attendant for the Santa Fe Depot, was recently inducted into the 2019 United States Slowpitch Softball Association Midwest Hall of Fame. Richard started umpiring in 1979 and joined Jim Hosty which at that time was a police officer. In 1980, Jim left town to attend school in Dallas Texas to be an air traffic controller. At this time Richard took over for USSSA and became the Southwest Softball Association Director and Umpire in Chief. In 1981, Richard received an award for Director of the Year. He continued to umpire and maintained his position as Director for USSSA here in Southwest Kansas. until 1985 when he retired from the Softball Association. 6. The Eisenhower Park Project has made great progress in the last few weeks. We are excited to say that the project is almost wrapped up. With that being said, Main Street Dodge City will be hosting a ribbon cutting in Eisenhower Park on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30. We invite you to join us in this celebration. Directly following the ceremony, you will have the chance to take a tour of downtown and learn about upcoming projects. For more information, please contact the Main Street office at (620) or krissy@dodgedev.org 7. On Saturday, October 27th more than a thousand kids came to the downtown area to trick-ortreat at the 30 participating businesses and organizations. It is the eighth year for Main Street to host this event! Children who visited all participating businesses were entered into a drawing to win one of the three bicycles donated by United Way of Dodge City. We were very pleased to see a large number of children and families that came downtown and visited all the businesses. There are so many great businesses downtown, and this event provides an excellent opportunity to showcase everything they have to offer. In addition, Main Street Dodge City also hosted a Downtown Scarecrow Contest where downtown businesses were encouraged to create a scarecrow display outside of their businesses. The displays were judged during the Trick-or-Treat event by a group of Main Street Volunteers, as well as giving all the children a chance to vote for their favorite. After all the votes were tallied, Dodge City Police Dept. won the overall Winning Witch Award, as well as the Children s Choice Award. Main Street would like to thank all the businesses that participated in the event, as well as all the children and their parents who came downtown. Special thanks to the following event sponsors: Cargill Meat Solutions, Dodge City Area Women s Chamber of Commerce, Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau, United Way of Dodge City, Victory Electric Cooperative, Wendy s, Western Beverage, Black Hills Energy, and the Gathering.

6 8. The Ground Breaking for the construction of a new exhibits building at Boot Hill Museum was held Thursday evening. Mayor Kent Smoll shared remarks with the attendees on the project and thanked the various partners in the project and recognized the State of Kansas and the Department of Commerce for their STAR Bonds program that is making the project possible. Through STAR Bonds, Boot Hill Museum can construct a 12,000-square-foot building that will house 9 new exhibits, a lobby, a gift shop, a covered back patio, and a 3,000-square-foot temporary exhibit hall. The Front Street Buildings will remain as they are and the new building will add to the experience of walking down the boardwalk, looking at treasures from the past, and reading about the old Dodge City stories. Daily gunfights, shows, and dinners will continue as they have for over 60 years, during the summer season. The new exhibits building will sit just beside the current entrance of the Great Western Hotel building and will run east to approximately where the museum service gate is now. 9. The Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas hosted their annual meeting Thursday evening at the Santa Fe Depot. City staff attended the meeting that featured a program update, grant presentation, and featured speaker Scott Abel, extraordinaire. 10. The Annual Pitbull Walk was this past Saturday. Although there were fewer dogs this year there was a great turnout of supporters who participated in the walk. Information was also passed out to people along the route. The purpose of the Pitbull Walk is to make people aware that the dogs make good pets. To learn more about the requirements to own a Pitbull in city limits, please visit Firefighters Summer Rhodes and Jacob Hardiman both attended the 11the Annual Kansas Rescue Conference in October at the Kansas Training Center/Crisis City. Summer worked on her K-9 search and rescue skills while Jacob was in the Structural Collapse Technician Skills training class. Both are a part of Task Force 6 State Urban Search and Rescue Team in which the Dodge City Fire Department is a participating agency. There are 9 members of the Dodge City Fire Department that are specially trained and certified in areas of search and rescue in order to be prepared to deploy in the event of a disaster anywhere in the state along with members of the Garden City Fire Department. Both the DCFD and GCFD make up Task Force 6 in the Southwest Region of our state.
