1 Community Newsletter Week of January 28 - February 1, 2019 A publication of the City of Dodge City Public Information Office 1. Progress continues at Boot Hill Museum. City staff met with Boot Hill Museum staff as well as the construction and design team this week. The project remains on schedule despite some delays with weather and issues with the foundation. 2. The City of Dodge City is interested in your feedback on the Comprehensive Plan for For more information on Public Engagement Sessions, please see the flyer at the end of the newsletter. 3. Staff and members of the recycling (CREW) advisory board attended Adulting Day at the High School on Wednesday. Elise Stucky-Greg, Cheryl Koontz, Julianne Kemmerer, and Jane Longmeyer all took time out of their busy schedules to help staff Vickie Williamson, Leonel Ibarra, and Corey Keller give six 40 minute presentation to kids that wanted to learn how to recycle. The presentation provided the students a hands-on experience to learn all aspects of what happens to their trash and recycled materials once it leaves their homes. Staff would like to thank the advisory board members that took time out of their day to help prepare and present to the students. For more information about what you can recycle and drop-off locations, see the attached flyer. 4. Local community members have been working to bring the Friends of the Zoo organization back to life again. If you are interested in joining, please see the brochure at the end of this newsletter. 5. City staff and members of the City Commission attended several community events on Friday including the Groundbreaking for United Wireless Plaza on 14th Avenue and Soule, the Western Plains Medical Center C Section Suite, and the Ribbon Cutting for Demi Brows and Beauty in downtown Dodge City. 6. City staff met this week with Black Hills Energy to discuss potential sites for a Compressed Natural Gas Station in Dodge City. They also participated in a conference call with the program coordinator with Central Kansas Clean Cities to learn about grant opportunities for CNG vehicles or to convert existing City diesel vehicles to CNG.

The Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dodge City Chamber of Commerce, Dodge City /Ford County Economic Development and Dodge City Public Transit attended an Active Shooter Training and building assessment on Monday, January 28th. Two Officers from the Dodge City Police Department lead the group in a real-time scenario training for the tenants at the Santa Fe Depot Complex building. 8. 3iSHOW plans are continuing to move forward. Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau Assistant Director Colleen Hastings continues to attend the meetings and prepare for the March 21, 22 & 23 dates. 9. Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Jan Stevens and Tourism Coordinator Robin Bailey attended Adulting Day on January 30th at the Dodge City High School. They were accompanied by Lara Brehm, Director of Boot Hill Museum, as well as Christina Million, form the Museum. Elaine Gall, the Office Manager of Dodge City Roundup, and Phillip Hansaker and Vicki Ortiz of the Dodge City Public Library were also on hand to lend their expertise. The tourism representatives conducted six sessions concerning Entertainment in Dodge City to approximately 90 students. The students were educated about events and attractions in Dodge City and where resources could be found on those types of happenings. Most students were eager to hear about events and also were excited about how to get more involved with the community. 10. The Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau held their quarterly meeting with the local Hoteliers this week. The hotel meetings are fashioned to keep an open line of communication and identify the needs of the hotels, so the CVB can aid in their efforts to serve the visitors better. Paul Lewis, Chair of Dodge City Sports Commission, was on hand to talk about the upcoming Shrine Bowl as well as sponsorship opportunities for the many sporting events held in Dodge City.
