2 To: Mayor and City Council From: Rick Getschow, City Manager Friday Report for December 9, Hennepin County Emergency Communications Meeting The Mayor and I have been invited by the Hennepin County Administrator and a couple of County Commissioners to a meeting on Monday afternoon, December 12, to hear the results of the county s feasibility study on establishing a consolidated 911 emergency dispatching operation that would serve not only the county but all cities within Hennepin County. 2. Parks and Recreation Update Parks and Recreation staff recently reviewed park facility rentals with the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission. Some of the highlights included; 366 rentals using the 14 different park locations. The 366 rental groups totaled 34,567 users generating more than $65, in revenue. At Staring Lake, Purgatory Creek, and Round Lake Park there were 22 Walks and Runs compared to 2010 s total of 15. Staff highlighted Randy s Run. This event is in its third year and is held at Purgatory Creek Park. Randy's Run is a fundraising event and honors Maj. Randell D. Voas, USAF an EPHS Graduate. The event raises funds for a college scholarship for a graduating senior at Eden Prairie High School who shared Randy's spirit and love of family, community and country. 3. MLC Board Meeting Our own State representative Jennifer Loon received Legislator of the Year recognition at the quarterly Board meeting of the Municipal Legislative Commission (MLC) yesterday. The Board Chair cited her positive work during the most recent legislative session with the conversion to the market value homestead exclusion program and the promotion of a fiscal disparities study as the main reasons for the recognition. Senator Julianne Ortmann (Chanhassen) was also recognized at this meeting for her similar work at the state level. At this same Board meeting we also heard from DEED Commissioner Mark Phillips on his thoughts on the current state of the business sector and economic development in the state. 4. Business Events Council member Aho, David Lindahl and I attended a rib(bon) cutting for the grand opening of the new Famous Dave s in Eden Prairie on Monday morning.
