3 NEWS : NEWS : NEWS HISTORIC HERO WALK The long awaited HISTORIC HERO TRAIL through Domville place will be installed ready for unveiling and commissioning at 10: am on September 8th. Months and months of meetings, discussions and ideas by an enthusiastically dedicated team has culminated in a series of plaques acknowledging those heroes who established, developed and built our Millmerran Community. The many hours of research involved in creating this historic walk by a close knit team has resulted in an excellent professional and successful project funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund, Toowoomba Regional Council, and Local Businesses. It would indeed be a wonderful opportunity for Millmerran Schools to participate in the very special day! Come along and join in the unveiling of this extraordinary example of the dedication of a few Citizens in recognition of our Town s Heroes. On Friday on September 8th. 9 Historic Heroes Trail Two Examples of the Historic Hero Plaques A dedicated enthusiastic workshop group donated many hours their time, knowledge and research to develop this worthwhile project for our town in recognition our founding Heroes, supported by a Regional Arts and Development Funding Grant, Toowoomba Regional Council, plus many other Millmerran Organisations and Businesses. The Trail is part of a continuing project which will include many more individuals and families as funds and time becomes available. The Current Trail consists of seven HEROES who contributed to the establishment and development, of our wonderful town of Millmerran, which we all now call home. Come along to Domville Place at 10: am. on Friday September the 8th to congratulate the few who put this wonderful project together, remember our Heroes, and to unveil this Historical Trail. It would be really great if Millmerran Schools can arrange for children to attend. and learn something about the history of Millmerran s HISTORIC HEROES.

12 MZAZA BRINGS THE MAGIC OF EUROPE TO QUEENSLAND Queensland audiences will be whisked away to Europe through the soul and sound of Mzaza s Children of the Road tour, traveling across the state from 27 July to 27 October Garnering rave reviews on their travels, Mzaza is a sextet of virtuosic storytellers and musicians praised as a revelation (SBS Radio), and creating...a world where the past is ever-present and music knows no borders. (The Courier Mail). Hot off the heels of their European tour, this July the band will perform their newest creation Children of the Road to enrapture audiences and explore the rich heritage of France, the Balkans, the Middle East and Sephardic Spain through world music and immersive visuals. The band will embark on their Children of the Road tour in Childers on 27 July before travelling to Brisbane, Boonah, Beaudesert, Gold Coast, Mt. Tambourine, Emerald, Gladstone, Millmerran and Mackay, with more locations yet to be announced. Mzaza is led by enchanting French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy, who delivers powerful and inspired performances driven from her French and Spanish Sephardic roots. It is such a treat to get to visit some beautiful parts of Queensland we have been looking forward to returning to as well as getting to know many new communities Maudy said. Audiences around Australia and Europe have really connected with the show and we hope that new Queensland audiences enjoy it as much as we will no doubt enjoy performing it for them. We love meeting new people and hearing their stories, so this big Queensland tour is really something we are looking forward to. The band has won two Queensland Music Awards, performed in countless festivals including Queensland Musical Festival, MONA FOMA and Brisbane Festival, and their two albums receive regular airplay across Australian airwaves The production has a strong emphasis on engaging with audiences, with a keen focus on spreading the beauty and intricacies of world music. Mzaza offers a series of community music and writing workshops involving local musicians and writers which lead to performance outcomes. Producer Greta Kelly, who also plays violin and shahkaman in the band, said the program The workshops are a great way to get to know the local folk and creatives. We work with community choirs, folk, ukulele and writers groups to share our music and migration stories. After the workshop we invite people to get up on stage during the show and perform a song with us if they want to. Suz Cook and Wenz McNeil (twins) were born at Dexter Street, Toowoomba in 1955, growing up with no awareness of their indigenous heritage. The commencement of a family tree discovered their ancestry, which traced back to the Iman people from the Taroom area of Queensland. Maggie Dunn was the girls Great Grandmother and this exhibition is in recognition of Maggie s legacy of courage, resilience and stoicism. We sincerely hope you can join us for the opening.
