Wiltshire Happenings Wiltshire Region Annual General Meeting, Thursday, 10 March This is our one formal event of the year. The JEC Regional Constitution requires that we hold an AGM each year so that you, the members, can see that the committee is running things correctly.
This year s AGM, was held on Thursday, 10 March, as part of our monthly meeting. The proceedings were formally opened by the Chairman, Don Westcott, who welcomed everyone present. He reviewed the region s 2015 activities before concluding his report by thanking all members of the Committee for their help and regional members for their support during the past year. On behalf of the Treasurer, Graham Savage, Don then presented the Accounts for the year ending 31 December 2015, which showed a balance of much the same as the previous year when you take into account the uncashed cheques. Don then thanked Graham Savage for his work as Treasurer, ably assisted by his wife Molly. As a result of these figures, our membership subscriptions for 2016 will remain at 5 a head great value for money considering some regions charge as much as 30 a year. Wearing his Membership Secretary s hat, Don then reported that, in 2015, we had twelve new members, plus two lapsed members returning to the fold, in addition to the regular renewals - plus some paying, in advance, for 2016 and even 2017 in one case. Encouragingly, the overall number is still steadily increasing, with 89 members at the end of This represents approximately 50% of the total JEC members in Wiltshire. As Newsletter Editor, Don Westcott then checked that everyone received their monthly newsletter on time and concluded by thanking Hartwells of Bristol for their continued support of our region with their advertising in the newsletter. Next came the election of the Committee for 2016, namely Don Westcott, Graham Savage, Kevin Short, Robin Allum, Martin Ruddle and Lynn Cook otherwise known as Cookie all of which agreed to stand again and were unanimously elected.. The meeting ended with a unanimous Vote of Thanks to the Committee and Chairman for their work in running the region. Copies of the formal Minutes of the meeting are available, on request, from the Chairman. 2
A fact of life, at this time of the year, is the need to renew your membership subscription still only a fiver. Many thanks to those of you who have already rushed to push cash or cheques in my hand!! The list of events for 2016 is steadily growing as I get confirmation of dates, etc. This list closely follows our usual shows through the spring and summer period. In addition, we are planning a visit to the Wadworth Brewery in Devizes at 11.00am on Wednesday, 4 May. We are limited to twenty people in a group so get your name in quick if you are interested. Club Regalia Galileo Clothing of Devizes now holds the embroidery software for our logo and they offer a greater range of products. For more information, have a look at their website on or phone and ask for David or Tim. It s Membership Renewal Time Again The bad news is that membership subscription renewals are now due for 2016, but the good news is that the amount due remains the same as last year so it s only a fiver to be a member of the Wiltshire Region. Already we ve had renewals from over forty of our members, so what s delaying the rest of you? Subscriptions for any new members who joined since the beginning of September 2015 are valid to the end of This concession does not apply to late renewals. Subscriptions to Don Westcott please. Cash is acceptable or, alternatively, a cheque made payable to Wiltshire Region Jaguar Enthusiasts Club. Kemble/Cotswold Airport Breakfast Meet This is run by Vince Franklin, the club s new Regional organiser, and has been taking place for just over a year and it s on our patch, just!! The meet is open to all Jaguar owners not just XJSs. 3
The idea is to gather at the AV8 café at Cotswold Airport used to be called Kemble Airport for an informal chat and some food from about am on the last Saturday of the month. To reach the café you need to approach the Airport from the A433, Tetbury-Cirencester road, and you will find the AV8 café by the Control Tower. There is parking in front of the café. Coming Events Drive-It Day, Sunday, 24 April This year s Drive-It Day is on Sunday, 24 April, and, as usual, we are marking this event with a lunch time meeting, for 12.30pm, at The North Wilts Golf Club where we enjoyed such a good carvery lunch in the past. There will be the usual reserved parking in the bottom right hand corner of the car park. The aim of Drive-It Day, co-ordinated by Federation of British Historic Vehicles (FBHVC), is to simply be seen so that, in our case, the public is reminded how many Jaguars and other classic vehicles are in use plus it may encourage other Jaguar owners to join our club. The North Wilts Golf Club located midway along the road joining the A4 (Calne) and the A361 Beckhampton/Devizes. As always, an indication of numbers of people interested would be appreciated. Please complete the Diary Dates form attached. Wadworth Brewery, Devizes, Wednesday, 4 May This is a repeat of a very popular visit that we made some four or five years ago. We meet at the brewery in Devizes at am and are given a conducted tour of the brewing process plus a visit to the stables to see the famous shire horses. The trip finishes with a visit to the sampling room to taste the product. As an optional extra, we can then retire to the nearby Crown pub for lunch. 4
Group rate for the tour, for which we need a minimum of ten people, is 9 a head. No need to pre book your meal at the Crown if you want lunch, but I need to know numbers so that I can reserve tables so we can all sit together. Castle Combe Steam Rally, Sunday, 22 May Application forms for this event are now available by downloading from the Castle Combe website ( call up castlecombesteamrally.co.uk, then click on 2016 Entry Form followed by Exhibitors Entry Form). In addition, if you are interested, please tick the box on the Diary Dates page so that I know you want to attend. If you can t download a form, let me know and I will send you one. Entrance is FREE to exhibitors. When you are completing your form, make sure that your entry is clearly marked as part of the Wiltshire Region Jaguar Enthusiasts Club display. Castle Combe is a two-day show but we, as Wilts Region, only go along formally on the Sunday. However, you will be equally welcome to attend on Saturday as well if you wish. Cherished Vehicle Show, Allington Farm, Sunday, 5 June Organised by the Chippenham Lions, this is the fifth year of this event, which is going from strength to strength. We had over twenty cars at last year s show. Food will be available, plus drinks, ice creams, etc, charity and craft stalls and an autojumble. All money raised goes to the Lions Charity work. Allington Farm is on the A420, not far from Chippenham as you go west towards the Castle Combe turn off. Entrance to the Cherished Vehicles Show is free to pre-registered exhibitors. You do not need to return any individual application forms received, just let me know ASAP if you want to come as I have arranged to submit details, en bloc, on behalf of all entrants and their cars to the organisers - and numbers are limited. 5
Vintage Nostalgia Show, Sat/Sunday 4/5 June For full details see their web site As the name implies, this is a nostalgia weekend with the emphasis on classic cars, trade stalls, auto jumble and other items of interest up to the 1980s. This is the fifth year that this is being held at Stockton Park in the Wylye Valley, not far from the A36/A303 junction. Entrance is 5 per car and driver. All passengers are 5 each. We will only being attending formally as a region on the Sunday, if there are sufficient numbers, as this event clashes with the Cherished Vehicles Show at Chippenham, so I leave it up to you which show you prefer to attend. Lackham Historic Vehicles Show, Wednesday, 15 June Held on The Green at Poulshot, a few yards from the Raven Inn our regular meeting place, this is an evening event, starting at 6.00pm until dusk. Food and drink will be available and there will be a raffle in aid of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. As it s on our doorstep, so as to speak, let s try and support it. You can just come along on the day but it would help me to know in advance who is coming so that I can reserve enough space so we can park together usually in the centre of the Green to the right of the Burger Bar. Just tick the box on Diary Dates or me. Chipping Sodbury Classic Car Run, Sunday, 26 June. This is organised by the local Rotary Club and is open to pre-1990 cars. Starting at Chipping Sodbury, it covers around 80 miles of the Gloucestershire countryside to finish at Westonbirt School near Tetbury. Entry costs are 27 per car. Full details available from Mark Benstock, Tel No or rotary.classic.run@hotmail.co.uk. Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum, Saturday/Sunday 9/10 July. As last year, this is now a two-day event. On Saturday afternoon, starting at 4pm, there will be a road run, lasting about two hours, finishing back at the Museum for a Bar-B-Q. 6
Sunday will be the normal static display, with a reserved area for our club, plus a collection of autojumble, tombola and trade stands. In addition, there will be a food stall, beer tent and the usual afternoon s entertainment. As I say every year, this really is an enjoyable day out. Entry to the display area on Sunday, to pre-registered cars, will be FREE for the driver and one passenger. However, there will be a charge, at a special reduced rate, if you want to visit the museum. Naturally, anyone who is a Friend of the Museum will not be charged. More details, entry forms, etc will be available in a few days on their website If any of you are interested, but don t have internet access, let me know and I will download a copy for you. As always, in addition to the above, let me know, via your Diary Dates form, if you are coming to this show. Seend Fete, Saturday, 13 August Once again, we have been invited to put on a display at this annual village fete. It is a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. You need to arrive by midday and are asked to stay until 5pm, if possible. Entrance is via The Lye, which is off of the main High Street in Seend on the A361. If enough of you are interested, then we will have a Wiltshire Region area reserved for us. Do let me know asap if you are coming. Shalbourne Classic Car Show, Sunday, 2 October This is the eighth year of this show. Once again, we have now been formally invited to attend as a club. Gates open to exhibitors at 9am with coffee and bacon butties available from 10.00am. The show finishes at 4pm. 7
Shalbourne is three miles south of Hungerford just off of the A338 and, as last year, the show is based at the Shalbourne Sports Field on Rivar Road where the views over the open countryside provides a perfect setting for the event. In addition to a large display of classic cars and bikes, other attractions include a hog roast, barbeque and beer tent, champagne/pimms bar, cream teas, children s activities, cakes, produce and other stalls. Pictures and details of last year s show can be seen on No need to book in advance but, as usual, please let me know if you are coming, via the Diary Dates, so that I can reserve an area for us to park together. Next Meeting Next month s meeting of the Wiltshire Region of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club will take place from 8pm on Thursday, 14 April 2016 at The Raven Inn, Poulshot, near Devizes. ========================================================================== Committee: Don Westcott (Chairman / Membership Secretary / Newsletter Editor) , wiltshirejec@aol.com; Graham Savage (Treasurer) , savco2@g.mail.com; Kevin Short , kshort28@yahoo.com; Robin Allum , allum33@btinternet.com; Martin Ruddle , lionmartin@uwclub.net; Lynn Cook , lynncook@aol.com.
