3 MECCA. Motor Enthusiast Club Central Australia Inc. Presidents Report September Dear Members, This has been a busy year for the club; we have had a number of runs and supported a number of events since July. The July run to Aileron was very good, the meal at the Aileron Roadhouse was quite good. It gave Stuart and Marie the chance to put some miles on the Jaguar. The August run to Standley Chasm went well, unfortunately my Harley broke down and was transported home by Don McInnes. The meal at the Kiosk was good and everyone enjoyed the day. The Riley Club visit to Alice Springs was a huge success with a very good attendance, a special thanks to all of the people that helped out. The club helped at the bar for the Transport Hall of Fame reunion in August. A few more volunteers would have been nice. From all accounts the club members that were there did a good job. We may have to get more people next year, remember we use these funds to pay for our insurance; the club fees will not cover the cost to run the club. Thank you to those that helped out. The September run to Corroboree Rock was cancelled as most of the people that would have gone were on holidays or did not want to take their vehicles out in the hot weather. We had a good morning tea and yarn at the Masonic Lodge, so we did not miss out on having a good time. A big thank you to Marie for providing a nice morning tea. Next month s meeting and AGM will be on the 6th of October, the first Sunday rather than the second Sunday. The Bathurst 1000 will clash with our normal meeting day. All positions will be vacant at the AGM. If you would like to fill a position please put your hand up. The position is for the next 12 months and can be very rewarding. It would be appreciated that you commit your time for the whole term so you can support the committee and the club members. You get out what you put in. If anyone has an idea for future club runs please advise the committee, if it cannot be organised for this year it can be scheduled for the future.

4 Remember if your club car is off the road you can still attend meetings and runs in your everyday car. If you need any information about club activities please call me. See you on the next run. Safe motoring. Col Jarrett. Road Transport Hall of Fame Reunion, Dieter gave a brief of how the event went. Dieter advised that the new shed was excellent, everything was set up when they got there, the fridges were packed. For the transaction of drinks they had special vouchers printed. It was a bit of a disappointment that more club members did not offer to help, both Dieter and Darren said that they managed but it did make a long night. The volunteers were not catered for so John Bridgefoot used his skills to round up some food. Dieter advised that the Reunion scheduled for 2015 will be another large one with a big crowd expected, they will be having multiple food and bar facilities. Col thanked the club members that helped on the night and a special thanks to Dieter for organising the night, he also apologised for not being in town for the event. Col and Dieter both advised that the club does need to continue to support this event as the money is required to run the club, our membership fees do not cover our costs.! August run to Standley Chasm report : Col advised that the run went quite well, the day was not too hot. We left the Masonic Lodge after morning tea and travelled to Flynn's Grave by individual routes, from there we went in convoy to Standley Chasm, the car drivers waited at the turn off in to Standley Chasm for the bikes to catch up, the bikes slowed down because the clutch on my Harley started to slip and my speed dropped from 50 mph to 35mph, we then

10 travelled in to Standley Chasm where we had lunch at the Kiosk. Luckily for me, Don McInnes had driven his Toyota ute, so he kindly transported the Harley home. The price will be $42 per person if we can get a minimum of 25 people. No other option has been put forward, the committee will get together and work out the final details.! Reminder that membership fees are due.! AGM to be held the first week in October (6 th ). The normal meeting date conflicts with other events. Marie asked why the AGM was to be held the first week in October, the reason is that the Bathurst 1000 is on the second Sunday.! Peter Ingster was invited to give us an update on his 1918 T Model Ford, this was the oldest vehicle in the club after Dave Simpson moved to South Australia with his early veterans. Peter advised that he and his wife now live in South Australia and they still own the T Model, they are now members of the T Ford club and take the Ford on rallies regularly. When they return home they are going on the International T Model Ford rally that is being held in the Barossa Valley this month, they will meet up with Wally and Alvina Spears there. When Peter and his wife came to Alice Springs in 1977 they had a 1926 Essex tourer. They used the vehicle for a while and then sold it. For a number of years the Essex was on display at the Transport Hall of Fame and then transported to South Australia for the current owner. September run: Corroboree Rock for morning tea.
