1 Tuesday May 23: Beaver Valley Section, Eugenia, Map 26, This 14 km shuttle hike will take approximately 4.5 hours and is at a medium pace over There is no dropout point. No dogs please. There will be a refreshment/pub stop Depart: 9:30 a.m. Johnston's Sideroad, km 70.1 map 26, where the main trail crosses the road. There is a small parking area on the north side of the road. GPS Coordinates: / Directions: From the corner of Highway 10 and 4 in Flesherton, go north on Highway 10 and turn right onto County Road 32. Turn right onto Johnston's Sideroad. Hike Description: Part of the Falling Waters hike in the Beaver Valley. We will shuttle to Eugenia Falls to begin the hike and hike back to Johnston's Sideroad, passing Hogg's Falls at the end of the Beaver Valley on our way. No dogs please. There will be a refreshment/pub stop Depart: 9:30 a.m. BTC parking lot on 1st Line E. at the 29.4 km point of Dufferin Hi-Land section. Directions: North on highway 10, north of Orangeville to Primrose, continue north through Primrose, east on 5 Sideroad, north on 1st Line E., parking lot is on east side of 1st Line E. about 3 km. north of 5 Sideroad. Hike Description: Hike the main trail through Boyne Valley Provincial Park and along the Boyne River from 15.2 km. to 29.4 km. of the Dufferin Hi-Land section of the Bruce trail. 2 Tuesday June 6: Niagara Section, St. Catharines, Maps 2 & 3, 50 in the Fiftieth Series, This 15 km shuttle hike will take approximately 4.5 hours and is at a medium pace over There is no dropout point. No dogs please. There will be a refreshment/pub stop Depart: 9:30 a.m. from the small gravel parking lot on the right side of Glendale Ave., Regional Rd. 89, just before you go over the Welland Canal. GPS Coordinates: 43 08'43.8"N 79 11'28.6"W Directions: Meet at km 18.2 on Glendale Avenue (Map 2). Take the QEW to St. Catharines, continuing over the Garden City Skyway. Exit at Regional Rd. 89, Glendale Avenue South. Continue on Glendale Avenue and look for a small gravel parking lot on the right, just before you go over the Welland Canal. Hike Description: We will hike from the Welland Canal to the Morning Star Mill and DeCew Falls. The hike will take us through parts of St. Catharines to DeCew House Park, around Lake Moody to the historic Morning Star Mill. Directions: Parking lot on County Rd. 19, (Prince of Wales Rd.), about 1 km north of Primrose, on the right hand side of the road. Hike Description: We will hike the Boyne Valley Side Trail through the Provincial Park and the Primrose Loop Side Trail, and part of the main Bruce Trail connecting them. 3 Tuesday June 20: Urban Guelph, This 8 km loop hike will take approximately 3 hours and is at a medium pace over easy terrain. Depart: 9:30 a.m. from the parking lot at the intersection of Wellington St. and Edinburgh Road. Directions: From the east, follow Highway 7 to the Wellington/Edinburgh intersection. Turn left (south) on Edinburgh Road, first turn left (20 metres) to the parking lot. From Hwy 401, take Hwy 6 North to Wellington Street (Hwy 7). Turn right (south) on Edinburgh Road, first turn left to the parking lot. Hike Description: This hike will follow urban paths along the Speed River, through "The Ward" and St. George's Park neighbourhoods, returning to the parking lot via the Spurline Trail and the Lafarge lands. Depart: 9:30 a.m. Crawford Lake Conservation Area, outer parking lot. Note there is an admission charge: $7.50 per adult; $6.50 per senior (65+): rates at the time of printing. Directions: Take Guelph Line to Conservation Road and enter Crawford Lake Conservation Area, park in outer lot. Hike Description: Crawford Lake and Nassagaweya Canyon. Parking fee applies. Directions: Take Hwy 401 west to Guelph Line in Milton, go south on Guelph Line to Conservation Rd. (formerly) Steeles Ave., turn left and follow to the end. Hike Description: We'll hike from Crawford Lake down the Nassagaweya Canyon and up the other side to Rattlesnake Point Park and then loop around back. There are some nice lookouts on this hike. Be aware that this is a rocky hike in some areas. Please RSVP if you would like to come for lunch at Thai House Cuisine after in Campbellville. Directions: From Hwy 10 (Hurontario St.) drive west on Forks of the Credit Rd. about 5 km to roadside parking just east of Dominion Rd. Hike Description: We will follow the Main Trail through Brimstone then up the Dorothy Medhurst Side Trail to the McLaren Side Trail. At Grange Rd. we will pick up the Main Trail again and return down the Devil's Pulpit to Forks of the Credit with a side trip on the way in to the Ring Kiln. Hike Description: We'll follow Grindstone Creek from the falls at Smokey Hollow through Hendrie Valley arriving at the Garden Café in the RBG Centre where we have a reservation for lunch. Map 17, km Directions: Take Airport Rd. to Finnerty Side Road (6 km north of Village of Caledon East). Then follow Finnerty 1.4 km to roadside parking at Innis Lake Rd. Hike Description: We will hike south through Glen Haffy. Depart: 10:00 a.m. Coolihans Sideroad where the trail crosses the road, km Directions: From Hwy 7 go north on Airport Rd. to the town of Caledon East, then continue north about 9 km to Coolihans Sideroad. Turn right on Coolihans for 2 km then park on the road at the intersection of Coolihans and Glen Haffy Rd. Hike Description: Pretty hike along the Palgrave Side Trail (now part of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail). 7 Tuesday August 15: Grand Valley Trail Association, Brantford area, Map 7-8 Grand Valley Trail, This 13 km loop hike will take approximately 4 hours and is at a medium pace over easy terrain. Depart: 9:30 a.m. Brantford Powerline Rd. west of Oak Park Rd., GVTA Carolinian Crest section, km 53.3 GPS Coordinates: , Directions: From Hwy 403 exit 30, go north on Oak Park Rd. 0.5 km, then take Powerline Rd. 22 left (west) 0.8 km to the end. Hike Description: We ll hike the Trans Canada Trail, view the Eagle s Cry plaque about the Six Nations legend of the Peacemaker, and return via the Grand Valley Trail along the Grand River. This is an area of hackberry forest, provincially significant wetlands, and former oak savannah, with several rare plants and animals. Hike Leader: Bill McDonald rec@sweettalker.ca Tuesday August 22: Caledon Hills Section, Hockley Valley, Map 18, 50 in the Fiftieth Series, This 16 km shuttle hike will take approximately 5 hours and is at a medium pace over Depart: 9:30 a.m. Parking lot on 5th Line EHS at km 53 (Map 18). Directions: 5th Line EHS km 53 (Map 18). Take Hwy 10 North to #7, Hockley Valley Road, turn right at the lights; continue to 5th Line EHS, turn right and parking lot is immediately on the left. Hike Description: Hiking through Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve, with hilly terrain. Scenic. Hike Leader: Doris Harper dorisharper@rogers.com
8 Tuesday August 29: Rockwood Conservation Area, This 10 km loop hike will take approximately 3 hours and is at a leisurely pace over easy terrain. There is no dropout point. There will be a refreshment/pub stop Depart: 9:30 a.m. Parking lot in conservation area. There is an admission fee rates not yet published, approximately $6 per person, less for seniors. Directions: From Guelph Line, go east on Hwy 7 to Falls St. Turn south on Falls St. to the entrance to the park. After going through the gatehouse, turn left to the parking area near the washrooms. Hike Description: Spend a relaxed day in this recreational area on the Eramosa River. We'll explore the interesting geological features, including potholes and caves (challenging climb into North America's second largest pothole is optional), as well as some of the history of the area as evidenced by the ruins of the Harris Mill. We'll be mostly on nature trails. Bring your bathing suit to make use of the beach after our hike or you can rent a canoe or paddleboat. On the way home, stop at Andrew's Scenic Acres and Scotch Block Winery (Sideroad 10 between Hwy 25 and Trafalgar Rd.) Hike Leader: Barbara Euler cell (day of hike) bjeuler@rogers.com
