1 Please check the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club website regularly for additions or changes to the hiking program. Thursday October 12: Dufferin Hi-Land, Mono Cliffs, Map 19, Fall Colours Photography Hike, Moderate, 8km -10km, photography hike on hilly terrain at slow to medium pace with stops to photograph fall colours and scenery. A loop hike with no dropouts. Hiking boots strongly recommended. Bring a drink and snacks. Depart: 9:30 a.m. from roadside parking on 2 nd Line Mono at entrance to Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. Directions: Take Hwy 10 north to Dufferin Road 8, about 10 km north of Orangeville. Follow Road 8 to Mono Centre, then continue north on the 2 nd Line to the end of the road. Please park on the east shoulder of the road. GPS: N 44º , W 080º Hike description: A scenic photo hike around the loops of the Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, including McCarston`s Lake and, if time and conditions permit, the South Outlier. We will have ample opportunity to photograph the fall colours, see a variety of forest types and geological features, and with excellent views from lookout points. 2 Sunday October 15, 2017 Niagara Section Balls Falls, Map 4 This 15 km shuttle hike will take approximately 5 hours and is at a medium pace over moderate There will be a refreshment/pub stop afterwards. Depart: 9:30 am Mountainview Conservation arae on Mountainview Rd. * There is a per car parking fee when we shuttle to Balls Falls. GPS Coordinates: / Directions: QEW south. Exit at #68, Grimsby South Service Rd. Follow South Service Rd. to Mountainview Rd. Turn right onyo Mountainview. Continue to parking area on the right, just past McLeod Str. Hike Description: Fall wine hike. Meet at parking area on Mountainview Rd. and shuttle to Balls Falls Conservation area. From Ball's Falls we will hike back to Mountainview Rd. Along the way enjoy some great scenery, pass vineyards and wineries and have the option to enjoy 'fruits' of the Niagara escarpment. We will visit one or 2 wineries, with the option of sampling some of the wines, or just relax and browse. * There is a small fee for wine tasting. Pre-register for the hike with the hike leader. 3 Sunday October 22, Toronto Section, Limehouse, Map 12, Introductory Hike, This less than 5 km loop hike will take approximately 1.5 hours and is at a leisurely pace over easy Depart: 10:30 a.m. Limehouse Recreational Baseball Parking Lot. Directions: From Hwy 401 take Trafalgar Rd (exit 328) north for 10 km to 22 Sideroad. Turn left then after about 3 km you will bear left to pass over a narrow bridge over the railway tracks in the village of Limehouse. Continue a short distance on and turn left (south) onto Fifth Line. Continue down fifth line until you see a Recreational Baseball Park on your left (east side). We will meet in the Ball Park parking lot. The hike leaders car will have a Canadian flag attached to the window behind the driver's door. Hike Description: This hike is designed to give new hikers a sense of what hiking on the Bruce Trail has to offer. We will walk into the Limehouse Conservation Area, down into the valley along the Black Creek side trail and then up the main Bruce Trail to examine the lime kiln restoration. We will then reverse back down the main trail through the interesting "Hole in the Wall" feature and back to the cars in the parking lot. Since the ground on this 4 km hike is uneven and rocky (and may be muddy) in some sections, hiking boots or hiking shoes are preferable but since new hikers may not have access to all equipment, just be sure you wear comfortable walking shoes. The hike is short but you may wish to bring a bottle of water. If you do bring bottled water, snacks or extra clothes, please consider carrying these in a knapsack or fanny pack so your hands are free making walking more comfortable. Please arrive at meeting place at least 15 minutes before hike departure time. Pre-register by for the hike with the hike leader. Hike Leader: robert_gillespie@bell.net

4 Sunday October 22, Caledon Hills Section, Hockley Valley, Map 18, This 15 km loop hike will take approximately 4 hours and is at a medium pace over strenuous terrain. There is no dropout point. There will be a refreshment/pub stop afterwards. Bring your choice of hydration and snacks or lunch. Hiking footwear is recommended. Depart: 9:00 a.m. Hockley Road Parking Lot: Located on the north side of Hockley Road at the Hockley Road Side Trail. GPS Coordinates: , Directions: From Highway 10, turn east onto Hockley Road/Dufferin County Road 7 and drive for approximately 5 kilometers to the Hockley Road Parking Lot. Hike Description: Surrounded by Nature's colourful autumnal splendour, we will hike along the Tom East, Isabel East, Glen Cross and Cam Snell Side Trails linked by the main Bruce Trail to complete this 15 km loop. 5 Saturday October 28: Toronto Section, Speyside, Map 12, This 15 km loop hike will take approximately 5 hours and is at a medium pace over moderate Depart: 9:00 a.m. Bruce Trail 22 Sideroad parking lot, immediately west of Fourth Line. GPS Coordinates: N ', W ' Directions: Exit 401 at Milton, and take Hwy 25 north to 15th Sideroad at Speyside. Turn right and follow 15th Sideroad to stop sign at Fourth Line, turn left, drive two kilometres and then turn left onto 22 Sideroad. Entrance to parking lot is on the right. Hike Description: An opportunity to enjoy the beauty of autumn colours on a loop hike using the Speyside North, Speyside South, and part of the Canada Goose and Vanderleck Sidetrails, joined together with sections of the Main trail. Directions: Take Trafalgar Rd exit off Hwy 401 and travel north on Trafalgar Rd through Stewartown and continue to lights at merge with Hwy 7. Turn left at lights and continue traveling north for about 4 km where Hwy 7 carries on to left and Trafalgar Rd exits on right. Continue north on Trafalgar Rd and after about 2 km turn right into Scotsdale Farm. Drive east along the gravel road to the parking lot on the left in front of the farmhouse. The hike leaders car will have a Canadian flag attached to the window behind the drivers seat. We will leave all cars at the meeting place while we complete this loop hike. Hike Description: This hike is design to show new hikers what the Bruce Trail has to offer. We will hike from Scotsdale Farm along the Bennett Heritage Trail to join the main trail just south of 27 Sideroad and then return to Scotsdale Farm via the Maureen Smith side trail. Hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes suggested. Bring water and a snack. Please consider carrying these in a knapsack or fanny pack to be more comfortable. Hike Description: An opportunity to enjoy the beauty of autumn colours on a loop hike using the Hemlock Ridge, Glacier Valley, Hockleycrest, Harmony and Darcy's Side Trails, joined together with sections of the Main trail. 7 Sunday November 5, Toronto Section, Scotsdale Farm, Map 13, This 12 km loop hike will take approximately 3.5 hours and is at a medium pace over moderate terrain. There is no dropout point. There will be a refreshment/pub stop afterwards. Bring your choice of hydration and snacks or lunch. Hiking footwear is recommended. Depart: 9:30 a.m. Scotsdale Farm Parking Lot: Enter from Trafalgar Road, 1.7 km northwest of Highway 7. GPS Coordinates: , Directions: Take Highway 7 north out of Georgetown. Turn right onto Trafalgar Road N/Halton Regional Road 3 (signs for Regional Road 3/Trafalgar Road N/Ballinafad/Brisbane) and drive for 1.7 kilometers, then turn right to enter the Scotsdale Farm property. Continue to the parking lot on the left. Hike Description: Witness Nature's change in seasons, as we hike through the varied terrain of the Bennet Heritage Trail, Great Esker and Maureen Smith Side Trails linked by the main Bruce Trail to complete this 12 km loop. Directions: Take Hwy 401 west to Trafalgar Rd (exit 328). Follow Trafalgar Rd north to Hwy 7, turn left (west) on Hwy 7 about 4 km to Trafalgar Rd. Follow Trafalgar Rd north about 2 km to Scotsdale Farm on right side of the road Hike Description: Pretty loop hike incorporating a mixture of Main and side trails.
