2 61 st JOTA INSTRUCTIONS 1. Registration and payment options are available on the web site. 2. You will receive a receipt for payment at checkout along with your crests. 3. The designated Adult Contact Scouter is responsible for ensuring that: Only registered members are enrolled as participants Required screening needs are satisfied for non-registered adults All appropriate policies and procedures of your member organization are upheld and followed All appropriate paperwork for participants in your group is obtained and managed 4. Upon arrival at Canadian Tire MotorSport Park (CTMSP), the contact Leader is to provide the JOTA registrar with All outstanding registration information and payments via paypal or check only. 5. All vehicles must have the attached vehicle registration card completed and displayed on the dash. 6. Gates open at 3 PM Friday, Oct The gate will remain LOCKED until that time. No Exceptions will be made. You must follow directions as given by JOTA staff at the gate. ELIGIBILITY This Jamboree is open to all registered members of WOSM (Scouts Canada) and WAGGGS (Girl Guides of Canada). There is no geographic restriction as to where participants enjoy Scouting/Guiding. Youth participation is for the following age groups and sections: Section Typical Age Scouts Venturers Rangers rd Year Guides Pathfinders Day Participation: Troops, Cub Packs and Guide Units are invited to attend as Day Participants Day participants may take part in selected activities or attend as observers either with the patrol(s) from their group or under the supervision of a registered leader on Saturday October 20, If at all possible we encourage eligible participants to camp for the weekend in order to fully participate in all of the amazing events. 3 61 st JOTA Camping Notes: TRAILERS are to be parked as directed by staff. At check in 1 vehicle will be allowed to drop your trailer at or near your camping site. You will immediately unload your trailer and/or vehicle, then move it to a parking spot, as designated by site service. All vehicles are to park in the designated parking lot and display a parking pass Cub Packs / Guide Units may attend for the day. We hope that the Sections will plan to take the opportunity to Link with each other allowing younger youth to see how a tent camp is set up, etc., what types of things happen at a Jamboree and how we work together to make camping fun. Each group is responsible for providing and preparing all meals and snacks for their members. Please bring lots of hand sanitizer!! Each group is limited to 1 Shelter - No exceptions. Please ensure the shelter is compact but adequate for your group members attending. There is no potable water available on site. Please make provisions for your drinking water. Every group registered will be responsible for their own gray water station and to remove the contents and all components of it at the end of camp. REMINDER: Practice No Trace Camping NO CAMP FIRES OR COOKING FIRES of any kind allowed. Tuck shop: Details at the patrol leaders meeting Friday night. There will be a central first aid station on site. You should maintain a copy of appropriate information for your group on your site as per the policies and procedures of your member organization. NO ONE IS ALLOWED ON THE TRACK OR BEYOND THE TRACK BARRIER FENCING!!! EVER!!! Nothing is to be over the track barrier fencing. Your co-operation with Site Service and Headquarters staff with regard to rules, curfews, & policies is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all campers. Other than for Ham Radio operations, Headquarters, Medical MedVent unit no generators allowed. 4 NEW THS YEAR : 1) Subcamp Chief for this Jamboree is Scouter Lindy Jay-Tung. She may be in touch with you prior to camp by but will also help you enjoy this Jamboree. Scouter Lindy has been in the Whitby Area for many years and has taken youth and adults from across Canada to a number of National and International scouting events. She will assist you in finding your camping area. Please cooperate as we will be in tight quarters. She can help with questions and clarifications regarding events, schedules, etc. She is a valuable resource for you both this weekend as well as in exploring how you and /or your youth might attend an international scout event. 2) This Jamboree will function with patrol size groups attending activities throughout the site. Patrols are typically about 6 youth but may be smaller or slightly larger based on the number of youth in your group. You are welcome but not required to join with another group to form an optimal size patrol. Your Sub-camp Chief may be able to help you pair up if you wish to do so. Youth Patrol Leaders are asked to attend the patrol leaders meeting at 8:00pm Friday to receive details to be passed on to their patrols and groups. Please inform your PLs prior to arrival at camp in order for them to be prepared and allow them to be at HQ at 8:00pm. Scouters do not attend this meeting. Scouters are invited to join us at HQ for the Scouters Social at 10pm Friday. Bring a mug and enjoy a snack. It s a time to meet and network with other Scouters attending as well as the JOTA team. We hope all Scouters will attend at least for a short time. Pumpkin Carving Activity Each patrol wishing to participate must bring their own carving equipment Each Patrol must transport the pumpkin back to their site for carving. Pumpkin debris along with all other garbage/recycle/composte from the weekend must be taken with you. NOTHING IS TO BE DISPOSED OF ON CTMSP Property. No trace means nothing left behind not even biodegradables. Patrols are encouraged to enter their carving into the carving contest. Details and rules will be at the Pumkin Pickup station. We also ask all patrols participating to light their carved pumpkin flamelessly and display it at Grand Central Square Saturday Evening and then take it back to their site after the band. Patrols may wish to plan the design to carve on their pumpkin, practice carving techniques and design the lighting scheme for their carving. Pumpkins entered in the carving contest must be fully carved at JOTA using the pumkins provided. 3) Remember your Canadian Path Youth oriented and driven. 4) Grand Central Square will be a Hub for JOTA/JOTI. This will be a gathering place central to our Jamboree. Make sure you drop by several times during your stay. Page 4 of 9

5 JOTA/JOTI - Weekend Challenges Iron Chef JOTA: Ala Cuisine! Your Surprise Ingredient is PUMPKIN 1) Must use actual pumpkin - not just pumpkin flavouring or pumpkin spice or essence of pumpkin. 2) Must be prepared entirely at camp by youth participants ONLY. 3) Entry judged on presentation and quality, Top 3 will be recognized at closing. 4) Entry must be delivered to Grand Central 5:30pm sharp! On Saturday October to qualify Decision of the judges is Final. Team Tent Challenge: Teams will compete to raise and fully stake a 4 man tent with fly. Team must supply their own tent Rules - Must be a team of 4 scouts - Tent size is a 4 person square dome with full fly to the ground,s 2 vestibule and groups must supply their own tent approx floor size 7 6 x pole system (2 for tent and 1 fly) - NO Pop up tents - Tent must be in the bag at the start - Must use all required pegs and ropes - Must be correctly erected - When finished all scout must be inside with all entrance and exit zippers done up. 1 person must yell completed - Tent must stay standing for 15 seconds after this signal - Maximum time allowed is 10 minutes - The patrol with the fastest time is the winner. - In the event of a tie than they do it again to see who is faster.
