Thanks from Willard Family Walt and Alice Willard, founders of O C Vettes, have a son, Andy, who suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). Because of this, Retinitis Pigmentosa International RPI has been OCV s official club charity. Walt and Alice would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank OCV and its members for their continued support of RPI. They know that members have interests in different charities, and they appreciate that OCV has faithfully supported RPI. Andy Willard s wife wrote to club President, Ron Molendyk, and indicated that there is a new procedure for RP that is currently undergoing clinical trial. Andy looks very positive for this trial and he will be traveling to New York for testing to see if he is a candidate to participate in the trial. The costs of that trip must be paid by the Willards. In order to fund the trip, the Willards opened a Go Fund Me account. At this time, the cost of the trip to test for the clinical trial has been covered, but if Andy is accepted, there will be additional costs in the future. The board will discuss and make a recommendation on whether OCV wants to make an additional donation or donate funds as part of OCV s annual donation to RP. It was discussed at the April meeting and members were very positive about supporting Andy personally in this venture. It would be wonderful if the new findings are able to work for him and restore part of all of his sight.

8 Page 8 April 2016 O C Vettes Orange Pits Newsletter Special July Social Planned The OCV Board is starting a new tradition. The July Social will be held at Zito s Pizza in Orange. It will be a set menu of various pizzas and other items. Since the Social coincides with the yearly OCV elections, the evening will include thanks to the outgoing Board and a welcome to new Board members. There will be awards for members who have contributed to the club throughout the last fiscal year. Other special activities may be included as well. The Board is looking for an idea of how many members are planning to attend to assist with ordering food. There will be sign-up sheets at Business Meetings between now and July. If you will not be attending meetings but plan to attend the July Social, please notify Ron Molendyk so you can be added to the list of attendees. HB Concours d Elegance Show The 2016 Concours d Elegance Car Show is on June 5 at the Huntington Beach Central Park & Library, located at 7111 Talbert Ave. in Huntington Beach. OCV hosts the Sunday show with a special Corvette show held to the south of the library. Paul Kerper needs OCV members to help with various activities over the weekend. Thursday night volunteers stuff goody bags. On Friday, OCV members help lay out the show parking grid. Lots of help is needed on Sunday to assist with check in and registration, parking, counting votes and distributing trophies. If you can volunteer to help please contact Paul at This event generates revenue for our club which adds to our charitable contribution to Retinitis Pigmentosa International (RPI). We need members to assist in making this event a success. Please plan to take part. The more workers we have the more fun it is! Guest Speaker at Apr Meeting Arlyn Smith introduced Dave Williams of Auto Appraisal Network Inc. as a guest speaker at the April OCV Business Meeting. Dave is the owner of the business. Dave talked about the two types of insurance policies available for classic, restored and collectable cars. There is an agreed value policy and a stated value policy. If a car owner has an agreed value policy, it is usually issued through a specialty insurance company such as Grundy or Haggerty. If that car is in an accident, the owner will receive the previously agreed upon value of the car in case of damage. A stated value insurance policy is the type typically issued by companies such as State Farm, Farmers, Progressive, etc.. In the case of damage to the car, car owners receive a settlement based on prices found on sites such as NADAguides.com that have classic car valuations. Value may be based on what the car is worth in cash, today (just before you crashed it). You can tell which type of policy you have by looking at your policy for an appraisal clause. If the policy contains an appraisal clause, then you have an agreed value policy. If there is not an appraisal clause, you have a stated value policy. If you have an agreed value policy and get in an accident that is not your fault, the specialty insurance companies will work with the other insurer to get the agreed upon value for your car. Having a good appraisal also helps if there is a disagreement on a car s value in case of an accident or damage. Highway 101 Cruise Planned Ron and Michael Molendyk are planning a cruise down historic Highway 101 to Point Loma that will include lunch at the Corvette Diner where Rock n Roll, burgers and milk shakes rule. The tentative dates for this event are September 17 th or 24 th. If you are interested in helping to plan this trip, please contact either Ron or Michael to let them know.
