3 Club Activities January The Club s usual Cruise n Schmooze ride was changed to Sunday for a working breakfast at Marc Cherry s house. His wife, Karyln, provided a wonderful meal of home-made breakfast burritos, sweet rolls and fresh fruit. After filling up on the tasty meal and hot coffee, the men exited to Marc s garage to begin work on the trophies Marc had been making for the past several months. Some of the work spilled over to the back patio, where Ben became the Leonardo of spray painting. Indeed it was quite an efficient operation, with little trophy cars passing back and forth through the kitchen in various stages of completion. Despite the cold and drizzling rain, the mission was accomplished and over 70 little British replicas were sitting pretty on their fine wood bases, in pewter, bronze and gold hues. Most of the group gathered at Starbucks to make it an official drive to Marc s house. The ladies had a chance to socialize for a change Everyone had something to do... What re you doin Ben? Oh! It s Leonardo...and he s painting! Note the sophisticated paint room The finished products!! Just for grins... Birds of a feather flock together and crap on your car. Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know why I look this way. I ve traveled a long way and some of the roads weren t paved. Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words The and IRS together it spells THEIRS?

5 2nd Annual British Motor Car Classic The 2nd Annual British Car Classic was held Sunday, February 3 at the Hilton Conquistador Country Club in Oro Valley. This was a joint event with the Jaguar Club and TBCR. Several of the TBCR members elected to drive their Jaguars; thus, Little British Cars were in the minority. Hans and Sue had the top up on their beautiful 1974 XKE - a rare sight! Mark and Karlyn had the hood open on their gorgeous Series 1 XKE. Triumphs were well represented (a total of four) with George and Kathleen bringing both the TR 3 and TR 4. Our UK members, Richard and Rosie Reeve, were there with former members and long-time MGB enthusiasts, Gary and Suzanne Cipponeri. Although it was overcast and a little cool, it was another great event. The venue with the view from the dining room of the cars on the golf course is outstanding! February s Events Newton Johnson The February Breakfast Run was another beautiful day. Starting on the north side we looped back and forth through the Catalina foothills and made our way to Little Anthony s. There were 24 cars including the Ariel Atom and 37 people for breakfast. The yellow TR-6 caused some concern with coolant leaking from the heater valve. Harold provided the recommendation for a simple fix: close the valve (this is something all MG and TR owners should remember). This was our inaugural run to Little Anthony s since they resumed breakfast service - the food and service were both great.

10 Drive Time The weather is improving and the rain should be history by the time you read this. You won t need your top until late June at the earliest. What does this mean for you? Well, unless you re daft, it s time to drive those cars. For many TBCR members that just what we re doing. Since last time we had a nice run out to the bustling community of Vail to visit with Karlyn and Mr. President for a great breakfast and work session. We sanded, drilled, painted and antiqued over 70 trophies for the Roundup. Great time and great help we all appreciated the membership s efforts and the Cherry s hospitality. nd rd The 2 annual British Motor Car Classic at the El Conquistador Country Club on Feb. 3 was a combination effort by the Southern Arizona Jaguar Club and TBCR. During the day we reached 39 cars, which was not bad considering cold, dreary weather and Super Bowl Sunday. The setting was gorgeous and the cars magnificent. Seems that many TBCR members that have Jaguars brought them. But TBCR had a magnificent pair of Triumphs there thanks to George and Kathleen. All we needed was an Arizona blue sky to have made the day perfect. I want to thank the members of SAJC for putting this event together again. I hope we can make this an annual event! Our February Breakfast Run was back to an old favorite Little Anthony s Diner. For those of you who don t remember we began our Saturday breakfast runs over 8 years ago, when we would meet somewhere and drive to Little Anthony s. Good to have them back serving breakfast, again. What coming up? LOTS! When the Roundup ends and we have time to breathe, it s March and April. These are the 2 prime driving months of our springtime and we have lots to offer. Watch the Octagon calendar, s and the website for final details. March 8 is the monthly Breakfast Run. This will take us to Green Valley for the best chorizo in SW Arizona at the American Family Restaurant. Then (mark your calendars), the Annual Tour de l Garage. This event begins at Ernie s British Cars on Saturday, th March 15. We will gather at 8:30 AM for coffee, bagels, etc and leave about 9:15 AM for visits to 5 Tucson garages. You will need to either bring a lunch or pick one up en route. The highlights this year include some race cars and pre-1920s brass era cars. More details will be coming in the next week or two. Lastly, we are organizing a TBCR effort to drive in the B.E.A.T this year (see beataz.com). Some of you have attended this event in the past, but many have expressed interest this year. Since the start of the B.E.A.T. is at dawn from I-17 in Phoenix, many of us will be going to Phoenix the day before. At the moment one group will leave Tucson at 10:00 AM (where TBA) and drive as much of the route off the interstate highway, as possible. We ll either picnic for lunch or find a place for a quick stop. We intend to arrive before the rush hour traffic in Phoenix. If you intend to go on Friday, you need to make advanced reservations in Phoenix. The B.E.A.T. has an overnight stop in Flagstaff at the Little America Resort, which can be reserved at a special rate (see the website for details). So, put some fresh gas in the car and drive out some of the cobwebs. Let s have great month or two with lots of top-down drives. See you there Ben Cohen Driving Events Chairman
