1 Dear Members, 2/14/13 Happy Valentine s Day Everyone! We have not had a newsletter out for a couple months now but we hope to be back on schedule in March. We were able to send out s to everyone about our delays due to a move by our web-master, Bill Percy, to Colorado. Bill is settled in now and ready to try out the new computer and program. Bill & Kathy Percy have been with the Goldhounds for almost 20 years. Kathy passed away last August and Bill is now in Colorado with their daughter and grandson, Noah. We will miss you Bill but we know Noah will keep you busy with family. As many of our members know we have lost some great friends in the Goldhounds family the past couple of years. It is difficult when we have to say goodbye to them but we are blessed to have great memories we can look back on and smile. At our Bear River Outing this year I will have all the Goldhounds Albums that Joe Cardoza, our club Paparazzi for many years, made for our Panning Championships, Outings and the Nuggets panning. Joe is always taking a picture of something and that means we have very few pictures of Joe! Just before Christmas Barbara Cardoza took a fall and cracked her hip area and we have not seen her since. Barbara should be released just in time to attend the Presidents Day panning at the Mt.Vernon Memorial Park on 2/18/13. This year marks big changes for me in the Mother Lode Goldhounds. Don and I moved into our property in 1980 and we met Doc Livingston. Doc was President of the Mother Lode Miners and naturally we also had to be involved. I was Secretary/Treasure for them until At the Miners we met Ron and Celeice Stockman and the four of us became very good friends. We did not have a recreational prospecting club in the area so we decided we would form a club called Mother Lode Goldhounds. We bought our first dredge from Frank Sullivan at the Mother Lode Dive in Sacramento and met Arnie at the Pioneer Mining in Auburn. I remember our first member, Robert Barczak, in 1989, and we were so excited when Arnie called and said we have a member! Now in 2013 we have 432 members at the last count and the club is still growing and strong. In January Don covered in an the new changes in Goldhounds and for me it is time to pass on my secretarial/membership duties to Cyndy Burchard, also our Sunshine Lady. I could not be more pleased and so happy that Cyndy & Ed Burchard joined Goldlhounds. Cyndy has been working with me since summer to get the membership on computer and now she is ready to take it over. We have no power or phone up our way and I am not a computer person, but Cyndy is and I have already learned a lot from her. Thank you Cyndy & Ed for all your help! Cyndy s cyned0523@yahoo.com.or phone In the past we have always used the date you joined as the next due date. We have changed our due dates to show on a quarterly basis only due in January, April, July and October. This will make it easier to put the due dates in order for a more efficient system. If you join in Nov. or Dec., your due date will be automatically January. If you join Feb. or March, due date will be April. If you join in May, June will be July. And if you join in Aug. or Sept. due date will be October. If you have any questions you may contact her and we will work with you on the right due date. Thank you Goldhounds for all your help at our events and making Goldhounds a great club! Annie

2 Cronan Ranch South Fork of the American River January 1, 2013 From: Don What a way to start a New Year. The weather was perfect. It was cold in the morning but sunny and warming throughout the day. I was expecting maybe 15 or 20 Goldhounds at the most. Well, cars and trucks kept coming and by 7:45 AM I stopped the logging in of names. I was already over 50! By the time we left on the hike at 8:00 AM vehicles were still coming in. A fantastic turnout for the outing and the perfect way to begin the New Year. The hike was on an old road that was in very good condition. Cronan Ranch is a multiple use recreational area and has many old roads that are used by the horses as well. The hike was maybe two miles and gently downhill, but coming back it seemed a lot steeper! The South Fork of the American was flowing pretty well, but not as high as it got in the later afternoon when the dam at Chile Bar opened up. The water level raises almost two feet before it starts to go back down. Be well aware of this if you go back. Your sluice box may be just underwater before you know it! The following are some pictures of the trip. We re scheduled to go again April 27th. More on that later. This is at 8:00 AM. Most of the Hounds were in the picture. There were more still getting ready and some vehicles still coming in!

3 Cronan Ranch South Fork of the American River Jim Hutchings giving some review of the comet fragments that fell in the area. Jim was looking for gold and fragments, which are worth more than gold!

5 Cronan Ranch South Fork of the American River A map of the total area of the Ranch. Some the best gold I saw. We all found gold. I understand there were also a couple of pickers found in crevices. Most of the gold found was flood plain gold. Some rougher like this.
