The day got off to an early start with John Sullivan helping Ron get the pig set up for roasting, at 5:30am! We would also like to thank Ron Thurston for helping sell tickets, Steve Gehl & John Sullivan for carving the pig and the ladies who helped in the kitchen. We received great support from the 100 Mile and area merchants with their donations of fantastic silent auction and raffle items. Make sure to thank them on behalf of the GLSC for their support when doing your local shopping. A special thanks to the Craiggs, Lowes, Milnes, Potters, Sullivans and Thurstons for their generous gift donations. Dale is especially grateful to Peter McKie for firing up the beast (kitchen propane oven) and making multiple trips up and down the ladder to adjust the lighting as per the band's request. The Classmates really made it a party with their amazing music selections - we're lucky to have them in our community. Finally, thanks to all of our members and their guests who attended and made this another fun filled event. Your continued support of the club is appreciated..ron & Dale Tonts. We ve seen lots of backcountry from the Marble Mountains to 100 Mile, Sheridan Lake to Moose Lake.

2 It has been a busy month for snowmobiling. It s been good to have a usable snow base and we ve made good use of it. President s Report... John Sullivan The Sunday and Tuesday rides have made lots of opportunity for members to join organized rides. We ve seen lots of backcountry from the Marble Mountains to 100 Mile, Sheridan Lake to Moose Lake. Special thanks to both Art Groves and Ron Tonts for leading these trips and Peter McKie for the sweep. Special trips included joining the 100 Mile Club for a ride from their clubhouse to Spruce Hills Resort for lunch and back. The next weekend we did a 2 day trip from our clubhouse to the 108 Resort with guests joining us for dinner at the Prospector s Roadhouse. Thanks to Art and Cheryl Groves for organizing. We ve put lots of kilometers on our sleds this winter. Photo: Bob Walker / Jan 08, 2017 On January 21 Ron and Dale Tonts sponsored the Pig Roast. About 85 people met to taste the bbq d pig and to dance to the music of the Classmates. The night was also a financial success raising over $3500 for the club. On February 12, we held a Family Ride followed by a hot dog lunch. Thanks to Art Groves and Peter Mckie for organizing the ride and Susan and Jim Smith and Diane Sullivan for organizing the donations and lunch. We were blessed with sunny weather and great snow conditions. $400 was raised for the Lions Club and Easter Seals. On February 26 we have the Memorial Ride/Fire. Join us and remember past members. The Annual General Meeting is on March 6. It s time for changes in club officers and directors. If interested let me know..john Sullivan. President The Clubhouse now has an AED (Defibrillator), courtesy of the South Green Lake Fire Department. It will be kept in the coatroom. Operation instructions are included. Events involving alcohol that are without a special event license may void our liability insurance for the club. Steve Gehl did some research and phoned the help line for Special Event Permits Some of the main points were: 1. Events involving alcohol will need Special Event Permit and event insurance. 2. Cost is about $25 for the permit and $150 for the insurance. 3. BYOB policy is not permitted. 4. Liquor will have to be bought specifically for and sold at the event. 5.Permit applicant and servers will need a Special Event Server Certification. The implications for the club are that social events involving alcohol we have to have a Special Event Permit and Insurance. This means a big change to the way things are done in the new year. We will continue to look into this and try to adapt our events to conform with the Liquor License Act. 4

6 Club Rides...Sundays / Tuesdays - 10:30 am Sunday and Tuesday Club Rides Weather permitting, riders are to be at the Clubhouse by 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch as the ride may not include a stop at a local eatery. If temperature is colder than -15C, the ride will be cancelled. Sunday Rides : contact or Tuesday Rides : contact (not available after Feb 14th!) Stopped at Jeep Lake, then down across the Rayfield ( should be frozen by now! ) My first river crossing without aid of a bridge!! Only 5 inches deep, so no problemo!..bob.. 6

Ride to 108 Resort - January 28th - 29th The ride left the clubhouse around 9:30 am Saturday morning with a quick first leg to 70 Mile. We stopped for a few to top up fuel and get supplies for lunch.

Everything was going well till we encounter the only steep hill on the GRST, one sled rolled over and the passenger (Linda) got here foot caught under the sled.

A quick detour to 83 Mile and Highway 97 and Linda was off to the 100 Mile Hospital. She ended up having 2 small bones in the top of her foot broken. She is at home and doing fine.

Begbie, conditions got even better, more untouched snow on the trail. It was fantastic all the way to our next stop, Helena Lake Recreation site for a quick break.

After a well-deserved refreshment, it was off to dinner at the Prospector s Roadhouse, where a good time was had by riders and a few of our friends from the lake.

7 Ride to 108 Resort - January 28th - 29th The ride left the clubhouse around 9:30 am Saturday morning with a quick first leg to 70 Mile. We stopped for a few to top up fuel and get supplies for lunch. After a safe crossing of Highway 97 we were on the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail (GRST) were snow conditions where fantastic. Everything was going well till we encounter the only steep hill on the GRST, one sled rolled over and the passenger (Linda) got here foot caught under the sled. Stopping at the Stormy Warming Hut for a break, it was determined that Linda would not be able to continue the ride. She was a trooper the whole time and even made it to the dinner. After leaving 83 Mile and back on the GRST when we got to the top of Mt. Begbie, conditions got even better, more untouched snow on the trail. It was fantastic all the way to our next stop, Helena Lake Recreation site for a quick break. The trail from the GRST to 108 was well used and a little rough on our tired bodies, but we arrived at the 108 around 3:30. After a well-deserved refreshment, it was off to dinner at the Prospector s Roadhouse, where a good time was had by riders and a few of our friends from the lake. It was early to bed for all as the first day was approx. 150 km ride. Left the 108 resort, got the bumpy ride over, and came back the GRST, still great snow conditions. Took a shorter route home by turning off the GRST at 83 Mile, crossing over to the power line and over to the pipeline heading south to Green Lake. The Ride ended at the WLNGLVFD Hall # 2 at around 3:00 pm. The route home was shorter by about 30 km. A thanks goes out to the volunteers who patrolled the GRST the week before, ensuring the ride went smoothly. Everyone enjoyed the ride and it was suggested that we do something similar next season.. Kim Lowe Memorial Ride was initially cancelled due to poor snow conditions, but was un-cancelled after a 1 inch overnight snowfall! Four riders had a pleasant ride down to Jeep Lake. 29 members attended the memorial - thank you again to John Nesbitt for presiding over this event!
