1 THE PARK POST William Morris, A.M.C.T., Park Manager Delta, Ontario K0E 1G0 October 2017 Dear Members and Volunteers of the Seasonal Campers Recreation Committee: On behalf of the Lower Beverley Lake Park Management Board, we would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to each and every camper volunteer for all of your time and support in organizing and sponsoring the numerous social activities in the park during the season will be remembered as a milestone in our history as many festivities and events were held throughout the season in celebration of the park s 50 th anniversary. Our campers and the greater Delta community are very fortunate to have such a caring and dynamic group of volunteers who are committed to making Lower Beverley Park such a great place to spend vacation and free time. Your efforts in organizing the bingo events, 50/50 raffles, children s activities and crafts, horseshoe and poker tournaments, craft shows, pancake breakfasts and hot dog barbeques are greatly appreciated by all. Having events such as these are just one more thing that helps make our park a great tourist destination and a home away from home for many people. During the past season, we have truly been blessed to have received the support of over 90 camper volunteers in not only hosting the many events in the park but also for contributing towards the purchase of the two new playground climbers and the playground lighting system, for constructing the portable toilet shelter at the Bradford Pavilion and for refurbishing three of the mini-putt holes. Recognition should also be given to the campers who assisted in raising $1100 in support of the Delta Food Bank and $ for the Terry Fox Foundation. Congratulations on a job well done! Once again, thank you one and all for your untiring efforts and endless support in helping make Lower Beverley Lake Park a most enjoyable camping destination for all to enjoy! Respectfully, Cathy Livingston Chairperson Lower Beverley Lake Park Management Board Ronald E. Holman Mayor Township of Rideau Lakes
2 GREETINGS from SEASONAL CAMPERS LIAISON Allan Moorhouse, Site G-12 As we winterize our trailers and prepare to say goodbye to Delta and Lower Beverley Lake Park for one last time in the 2017 camping season, we can pause and reflect back upon the last 5 months. We hope that your time in the park has been enjoyable, in spite of the weather. Obviously, September was the best month of the season as we finally got to enjoy some warmth and sunshine. The Seasonal Campers Recreation Committee has had a very busy season organizing and hosting numerous successful events. Congrats to all the volunteers! Be proud of your contributions as our volunteers are a big part of what Lower Beverley Lake Park has to offer to all campers and visitors. Just think; new playground equipment added this year, upgrades to the mini-put have been completed, new portable toilet facility next to the Bradford Pavilion, lights have been added at the basketball court, and many organized activities have been held for children such as bingos, crafts, fishing derby and the list goes on. All of this adds to the park s attraction, especially for those who bring their young families to Delta. To Mandy and Robert Dier; we are sorry to learn of the loss of your trailer by fire on September 19 th. The Delta Terry Fox Walk was held on September 17 th. The contribution from the volunteers at Lower Beverley topped $1, Thanks to everyone who contributed and participated. Perhaps we will see you at Celebrating the Season, an event well worth the trip back to Delta prior to Christmas Stay warm, stay safe, and let the countdown begin for May 2018! CAMPERS PARTICIPATE in ANNUAL TERRY FOX WALK Congratulations to all of the campers who participated in the annual Terry Fox Walk in support of cancer research. Held on September 17 th, a total of $ was raised at the Delta event with a record $ coming from sponsorships within the park. Since our campers started supporting this cause in 2003, a total of $16,400 has been collected within the park. Well Done and Congratulations to all Lower Beverley Park Campers!
3 Our deepest condolences are extended to Alice Palmer and her family upon the passing of her husband John on September 15 th. For over three decades, Alice and John have stayed in our park as Seasonal Campers on Site G-01. In the early years, John was instrumental in establishing the Seasonal Campers Recreation Committee and hosting the numerous activities in the park. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alice and her family as they go through these difficult times. WELCOME NEW CAMPERS We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Susan and Laurence Perkins of North Augusta to our camping family. They will be camping on Site K / 50 RAFFLE WINNER The Labour Day Weekend raffle prize of $ was claimed by transient camper Les Duberville of Smiths Falls. During the Old Bastards Motorcycle Rally, motorcyclist Mike Keddy claimed the raffle prize of $650 with red/white ticket # TO OUR CAMPER VOLUNTEERS: We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our Seasonal Campers and the many volunteers for their efforts in planning, organizing, and working at the many recreational events during the 2017 season. We look forward to the 2018 season and working with you in building another fun filled summer. Pat Phillips, Chairperson Al Moorhouse, Seasonal Camper Liaison A copy of the minutes of the Seasonal Campers Recreation Committee Meeting held in August and the Year-End Financial Statement have been included with this newsletter. BOB BRADFORD MEMORIAL HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT Congratulations to all of the participants and organizers of the 11 th annual Bob Bradford Memorial Horseshoe Tournament on September 4 th. Several campers have already submitted vague notes regarding relocating sites.
