1 August 2018 Newsletter New Logo for Bowling Alley at Southport The bowling alley in the Central Plains RecPlex has been under construction since May of Last week, Southport announced the name and logo as Southport Bowl. The upgrades to the facility include the addition of automatic scoring, a new accessible entrance, glow bowling capabilities and more. The Grand Reopening is scheduled for October 4, Southport Hosts 4th Annual Community Barbecue On August 29, Southport held its annual community barbecue to show appreciation to residential tenants. Guests enjoyed a chicken burger meal and had the opportunity to jump on the bouncy castle, act like a bowling ball in the giant bowling game and tour the ongoing renovations at tsouthport Bowl. The event was also held in conjunction with the 2018 Manitoba Airshow volunteer appreciation. Southport s CEO, Peggy May presented cheques to the non-profit and community groups who provided volunteers to the 2018 Manitoba Airshow. (Pictured above: Knocking down the pins at the Community Barbecue.) FAST FACT Southport Bowl is the only bowling alley within a 45-minute drive of Portage la Prairie.

2 Bowling Pin Promo Video In August, we took our giant bowling pins on a tour around Portage la Prairie and to local businesses. People were able to take a picture with the bowling pins and enter to win a bowling party at Southport Bowl. Please call to reserve. Facilities Update The facilities department has kept busy in August on projects like the Southport Bowl renovations. Nearly all of the bowling alley renovations are being done with Southport s team of staff. The project has included the removal of one lane and the creation of a new entrance into the bowling alley. The new entrance ensures that people are able to take the elevator down to Southport Bowl. The facilities team has also been working on finishing up the new enclosed storage units that are available for rent at Southport.

3 Tenant Feature: Portage la Prairie EMS Since 2011, Southport has been home to the Emergency Medical Services Department of Southern Health-Santé Sud. The department has 5 ambulances stationed at the Groundside Maintenance Building here at Southport. In 2014, the EMS lease was expanded to accommodate the Regional Mobile Critical Care Unit. Together, the 5 ambulances and Critical Care Unit service the entire Portage la Prairie region. The central location allows for the medical professionals to offer quick care to their patients as they are close to both the City of Portage la Prairie and the rural communities surrounding it. Southern Health-Santé Sud also has their administrative office at Southport, located in the Southport Building. Southport Sponsors Two Golf Tournaments Centennaire South Update Construction is continuing at the two new residential units at Centennaire South. Most of the exterior work, including siding and roofing is complete and the attached two car garage (pictured above) is ready for colder weather! The units are painted and the next step is installing flooring and cabinets. Once completed, Centennaire South will offer a modern rental unit with 2 bedrooms, a den, a master ensuite and many more features and amenities. Southport sponsored two golf tournaments in August. At the Portage Plains United Way Tournament on August 10, our Marketing Assistant set up a game of ring toss featuring giant inflatable bowling pins and hula hoops. Those who successfully completed the game were entered into a draw. The draw took place during the dinner following the tournament. On August 30, Southport also sponsored the Central Plains Cancer Services Charity Golf Classic. Southport had a game of life-sized bowling set up to promote the grand re-opening of Southport Bowl. Golfers were able to put on a giant zorb ball and try to knock over the giant bowling pins.

4 New Employee at Southport Kris Starling is the newest Facility Maintenance Technician at Southport. Kris has experience in construction and carpentry. He also enjoys coaching youth hockey in his free time. Welcome to the Southport team, Kris! The sign explains the significance of the Tutor aircraft and how it was installed to commemorate Southport s 25t h Anniversary along with Canada s 150th Anniversary. Southport Bowl Grand Reopening: October 4 On October 4, join us at the Central Plains RecPlex for the Grand Re-Opening of Southport Bowl. Enjoy the festivities and tour the facility from 1-6 PM. 5 August 2018 Newsletter September Spotlight: Triceps The upcoming muscle of the month for September is the Tricepstrings! The Triceps Brachii long muscle on the back of the upper arm. The name means three headed due to the three parts. The long, lateral and medial head of this muscle work together to straighten and fixate the arm. More information about the muscle of the month and exercises can be found on our website or on the posters in the workout area. Southport Bowl Update Renovations at Southport Bowl are almost finished. The glow lights are installed (see right) and the bowling alley will be open soon. Please join us for the Grand Reopening on October 4 for formal remarks, tours and more! We are also taking booking for birthday parties, sports team windups and company Christmas parties. Call to book your event today. Member of the Month: Bernice Maxwell Bernice Maxwell is a long-time member of the Central Plains RecPlex and our September Member of the Month. She works out regularly to stay healthy and fit. Congratulations Bernice! If you have a nomination for a member of the month, please let us know by , social media or in person.

6 Southport is looking for an operator for the food kiosk located in the Central Plains RecPlex. Potential customers of the food service include: Central Plains RecPlex members (approximately 500), members of gym user groups (gymnastics, ju-jitsu, archery, roller derby, schools, etc), parents and spectators attending tournaments, parents dropping off or picking up children from (28 space) daycare, the 570 employees who work at Southport, the 600 people who live on site, including students and visitors from the surrounding area. A prospective menu should feature cold and hot beverages, wholesome snacks and lunches, with a focus on nutrition. The total available space is 23 m 2 (250 ft 2 ) and is centrally located in the new Welcome Centre.
