Funds raised remain in BC to assist children with disabilities. This fun day will consist of: Open House Snowmobile Poker Ride - 50 km loop Lots of great door prizes 50/50 draw Concession: hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, pop, coffee and hot chocolate Registration for Poker 10:00 a.m. Entry fee by donation First sled out by 10:30 a.m. Poker Ride Winners 1:00 p.m. Door Prize Winners 1:00 p.m. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult Please contact Peter or Art if you have questions about the Poker Ride or for larger groups who plan on riding together. 2 President s Message I hope everyone had a good holiday season. Happy New Year from myself and the entire Executive. I would like to thank everyone who has participated behind the scenes to keep the Club operating during this busy time for me (Rita Dixon for keeping our fi nances in order, Lorrie Fleming for all her hard work in recording our Executive and General Meetings, Kim Lowe for handling our membership and renewals, Dale Tonts and Larry Messaros for putting together our informative newsletters, Pat Olsoff and Miriam Livingston for hosting our well attended Christmas Dinner/Dance and John and Diane Sullivan for keeping our signboard current). Thanks also to Art Groves and Steve Gehl for keeping us up to date on the impending ORV legislation and ORV registration. We re still gathering information and will hopefully have a step-by-step guideline in our next newsletter to assist you through this process. Our JCP addition to the Clubhouse will soon be fi nished and I would like to emphasize that this project would not have been completed without the participation of our volunteers, who to-date have donated $26, of in-kind labour and materials. This will bring the value of our project to $98, in value. Thank you to all. Trail widening and maintenance has been moving forward with the fresh dump of snow. We are currently monitoring all trails for dead fall and trees bowed by heavy snow. If you come across anything that you think should be looked at, please give us a call. Our next major event is Winterfest to be held on Sunday, February 8th. This will be a 50km Poker Ride, which will require quite a bit of manpower to set up. If you are interested in helping us prepare for this event, we appreciate your participation. All proceeds from this event go to the BC Lions for Children with Disabilities. All donations of door prizes will be gratefully accepted. Please encourage all of your family, friends and neighbours to join us for this fun event. Entry fee is by donation. See you on the trails. 4 BC Government News Release Features GLSC 70 MILE HOUSE Five local workers, community members and tourists will benefi t from a snowmobile trail restoration project in the Green Lake area, as a result of more than $72,000 in provincial Job Creation Partnership funding. The Government of B.C. has partnered with the Green Lake Snowmobile Society to provide fi ve local workers with 21 weeks of work experience and skill development training in trail restoration, general construction, plumbing and carpentry. The workers were hired to clean, widen and repair McIntosh, Dudley Kill and an unnamed trail in the Green Lake area that were damaged by pine beetles and total about 50 km. The workers will also upgrade Jeep Lake campsite and install 40 new trail signs, two outhouses, and six benches in the Green Lake area. In addition, the workers will help renovate the Green Lake Clubhouse, which includes expanding the kitchen, meeting room, installing two washrooms, a wheelchair ramp and septic tank, and painting the exterior. The project is expected to fi nish in March Job Creation Partnerships like this are part of the Employment Program of BC s Community and Employer Partnerships, which fund projects that increase employability and share labour market information.to date, more than 480 job seekers have benefi ted from work experience and more than 120 projects have been funded throughout the province. The Community and Employer Partnerships program is featured in B.C. s Skills for Jobs Blueprint that helps align training and education with in-demand jobs and provides more support to people who are struggling to gain a foothold in the job market or who face unique challenges. 5 Green Lake Snowmobile Society president and project manager Peter McKie This project will benefi t both the participants and the Green Lake area with an improved meeting place and a rejuvenated trail system. It s a pleasure to watch the participants enjoy what they are doing while learning new skills which will hopefully benefi t them in their future endeavours. Some of my favourites include building the clubhouse addition from the ground right up to installing the roof. Learning the whole plumbing process was also a lot of fun. 6 Club Rides Frank Dixon has once again agreed to lead the Wednesday and Sunday Club Rides. If you would like to participate in a club ride, please meet at the Clubhouse by 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch and some money (just in case they decide to stop along the ride) and join in the fun. If the temperature is lower than -15C, the ride will be cancelled. Thanks for leading the pack and fi nding the fresh snow Frank. We appreciate it. Peter McKie Ride Rules, Safety, Etiquette Rides and Events are for Club Members and invited guests only. Proper snowmobiling clothes and helmet should be worn Have a packed lunch as the ride may not include a stop at a local eatery Follow at a safe distance Be responsible for the rider behind you. When at a crossroad/intersection, be sure the riders behind you know which direction you and the rest of the group are going. If you are unsure what direction the group has gone at an intersection, stop and wait. Maybe one of the riders behind, if not the Sweep, knows which way to go. If not, wait until someone ahead returns. If you leave the ride/group line (boondocking), you MUST yield to the line when re-entering the line No passing on trails No hard acceleration on groomed trails Carry a whistle, it is very helpful when requiring assistance. It also aids in locating a person.

7 Christmas Party - Dec. 13, 2014 A beautiful live Christmas tree hand cut by Frank Dixon and decorated by members along with other beautiful decorations in the hall made for a lovely festive space for our annual Christmas party which was well attended and enjoyed by all, nice to see some children too. The pot luck dinner was its usual wonderful success, thanks to all. A silent auction, and Christmas tree ornament raffl e were well received by all, providing fun and excitement. Live music by the Classmates added more nice spice to the evening, with Christmas music and spot dances. Group pictures were posed for and taken by Ken. Donations to the food Bank where overwhelming once again and much appreciated by the Womens Centre in 100 Mile House. In all a Great Party, a nice start to the season.
