Thank you to all of the club members who participated and supported the Sixth Annual Bowl-A-Thon. COCSD and NCOCC raised over $2000 for muscular dystrophy. Congratulations to David and Alice Roberts who took high score honors for men and women. This year COCSD edged us by 20 pins to claim the coveted trophy. Next year look out COCSD! It s here! We had a great turnout and support for all of the activities. Chairpersons will be looking for volunteer to help with some action items and participation on show day. Look for sign-up sheets at the club meetings. The Board is discussing and planning some new run ideas. We will be announcing them soon and look for your participation to take advantage of the fun and socialization they provide. See you at the meetings and events, Bob March 2009 The busiest time of the year for our club is right around the corner. The activities coming are planning and preparing for Plastic Fantastic XXXII, some great runs and events, and looking ahead for spring and summer projects. We are in the process of engaging with our new charity, Interfaith Community Services. There will be more details on this in the coming weeks. We will certainly get our members involved to volunteer time and expertise to affect a positive result helping many people in our community. This month s meeting on Tuesday, March 10 will be a Pizza Night. Join your friends for pizza, soft drinks and socializing. Dinner will be available 6:15 pm up to our 7:00 pm meeting time. A big thank you to Annette and Ron Wood for organizing and leading the 3 rd Annual Luv Run to the Huntington Beach pier. We had a great turnout, weather was perfect and as always we ended with a meal, this time Ruby s Diner. The board is always looking for new ideas, people to step up and offer to put a run together or just ideas and suggestions in general. This is your club so contribute and keep this the best Corvette Club in the world. See you at the meetings and events, Bob.

Mission Road - 1PM-4PM Top this for a speeding ticket! Two California Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar. One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill. The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then turned off. Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location. Back at the CHIPs Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander. The reply came back in true USMC style: Thank you for your letter. We can now complete the file on this incident. You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down. Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location. Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position. The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech. Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster. Thank you for your concern. 12th NCoCC Business Meeting, Well Church, Poway, 7:00pm 13th El Cajon - Cajon Classic Cruise - Main St. & Magnolia Avenue - 5PM-8PM 17th 32nd Annual Plastic Fantastic All Corvette Car Show

5 5 Planning for Plastic Fantastic XXXII Sandy, always the first to arrive! Candi & Lynn Gary, ready for lunch. Lynn, Sharon, Lynn, & Candi On Saturday, March 21, 2009, the Club met for the second Plastic Fantastic planning meeting at the Well Church. This is the first year that the Board has taken on the job of coordinating Plastic Fantastic XXXII with various subcommittee volunteers. The group got right to business and broke for a Club-provided lunch in the middle of the meeting. The Committees are doing a fantastic job getting things in place, and Pat Kutyla, our raffle chairperson, has taken the bull by the horns in soliciting desirable raffle prizes. We should have a very successful raffle this year and hope to make a substantial profit to donate to our charity. We expect to put on another outstanding show for 2009! Pat & Greg President Bob & Wayne Dave & Bob, not much to say. The club in action.

9 9 Mr. Brown goes to Motorama National Corvette Museum s Historic Motorama II This past June my 59 was selected to represent the 59 MY in the Historic Motorama II which would consist of one Vette from each year & the 55 car display would be the feature marquee for GM s 100 th Anniversary celebration in Detroit. I then spent the remainder of June, July & August prepping the car and planning my trip via Route 66. A major help was being able to program almost the entire trip that included nearly 100 must see or points of interest into my Tom Tom GPS. Spent the night in the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ.quite an experience, but once is enough! 2 Sept: Day 1, first photo op at the Wigwam Motel on Rte 66 in Rialto. 6 Sept: Foggy, foggy day. Restored Phillips 66 station in McLean, TX. 3 Sept: Big prob in the middle of the desert; this was an unscheduled pit stop and the starter was heat soaked. This would plague me until I got to Bowling Green, KY, where I had a replacement starter waiting for me. National Route 66 Museum in Elk City, OK 3 Sept: Sno-Cap in Seligman, AZ 7 Sept: Famous Blue Whale in Catoosa, OK

10 Mickey Mantle s home town of Commerce, OK 10 Sept: Collinsville, IL. This is the owner of a 66 big block and he had everyone sign his air cleaner. Cool idea. Galena, KS. This is Tow Tater that was the inspiration for Tow Mater in the movie CARS 11 Sept: The 54 out of PA threw a rod about ½ way between St Louis & Indianapolis. It had its own chase vehicle and trailer. The owner immediately began searching for a replacement engine. 9 Sept: Jim Van Dorn who owns Automasters in Bowling Green, KY. Jim is an old friend and quickly repaired my heat soaked starter problem. 12 Sept: After visiting Griot s Garage headquarters and Ray Skillman s Museum in Indy, and Tire Rack s HQ & test track, & the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, IN, we motored on to Sawyer, MI for a catered dinner at Corvette Central. At the NCM. Tomorrow I will meet up with the other 54 Corvettes in the Motorama.

11 11 13 Sep. Our overnight hotel in Battle Creek, MI. Hurricane Gus hit and we had torrential rains all the way from South Bend to Battle Creek. I think all the solid axle cars (except 53 & 54 which had warm, dry trailers) suffered from many, many leaks. The 63 split window coupe had more than 3 of water in the passenger foot well. This is the 1960 from KY. Dinner at GM s Heritage Center; a truly fantastic collection of rare automobiles. 16 Sept: The big day; we are on display in front of the Renaissance Center on the waterfront in downtown Detroit with hundreds of media people everywhere. 14 Sept: Got a welcome break from the heavy rains and spent the day touring Henry Ford s Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn. Put this on your must see destinations; it is truly wonderful. Remember the 54 with the blown engine? The owner found a spare engine in MI, worked all weekend, and with the help of Werner Meier of Farmington Hills, MI, had the 54 ready to go on the big day. Also cool is how he had reproductions of the original 53 Motorama Car display placards made to help show off his Sept: We visited GM s Performance Powertrain Div. in Wixom, MI, where they hand assemble the LS7 & new LS9 engines. I was very surprised they allowed taking all the pictures we wanted.

12 12 Parked on an original alignment of the old Mother Road. The new Rte 66 is just to the left. Photo op with Bob Lutz A wonderfully restored Standard Oil Station in Odell, IL. All the little towns take great pride in their Route 66 heritage and take great pains to meticulously maintain these old treasures. 19 Sept: First day of return trip. I drove to Wilmington, IL to pick up Route 66. This is the famous Gemini Giant at the Launching Pad Drive-In. Route 66 Hall of Fame Museum in Pontiac, IL 20 Sept: Bunyon Giant in Atlanta, IL Restored Texaco Station in Dwight, IL. Route 66 in Illinois has the most restored stations, historic buildings and the best signage/markings of any state.you do not need a map to follow Rte 66 in IL. Shea s Route 66 Museum in Springfield, IL. The original owner of this station still runs this place and will give you a guided tour through his years of memorabilia stocked in two stations. While in Springfield I also visited Abe Lincoln s home (a 2-3 block area of restored period homes) and also Lincoln s Tomb.

13 13 Soulsby s Shell Station built in 1926 in Mt. Olive, IL. 22 Sept: Bug Ranch in Conway, TX Adrian, TX, midpoint of Route 66. Famous Chain of Rocks Bridge that crosses the mighty Mississippi on the north side of St Louis. 23 Sept: Famous Jackrabbit Trading Post near Joseph City, AZ. 21 Sept: Route 66 Museum in Clinton, OK Oops! End of pavement. Even with travel maps and GPS you can still run into some interesting situations. 24 Sept: Home to CA. Total of 7047 miles, 436 gal of gas, 16.2 mpg, 4 qts of oil & one new starter. You might say, It was a gas!

15 15 Dear Members, March 21, 2009 t Plastic Fantastic, on May 17 h is quickly approaching, so I am taking this opportunity to remind you about donating an item to our raffle. We have two club meetings prior to Plastic Fantastic, so please bring your raffle item(s) to one of those two meetings, or the day of the car show and drop it off at the raffle booth. Please find attached a letter of explanation on our letterhead for any vendors you may solicit for raffle prizes. If we each solicit one vendor to donate to our raffle, we would acquire more prizes, which translates to more money for our charity, Interfaith Community Services of North County. The committee appreciates your time and generosity and looks forward to receiving your raffle donation.
