ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS MIKE & CHERYL FINLEY IT'S GREAT TO BE HOME! The Wing Ding in Knoxville was great, got to ride a 2016 Razor Trike and loved it. There was a lot to see and people to meet. Our adventure started on Friday, it was uneventful, weather was good and with no breakdowns. We made it to Berea, Kentucky Walmart. Joe was trying to figure out how to build a campfire and not get caught.(don't do it) The next day we made it to Sevierville and set up camp. The rest of the week we went on different rides in and around Pigeon Forge, that and visited Ole Smokie (Moonshine) and once again got a free cooler. Thursday at Wing Ding we meant up with the rest of Chapter B unfortunately did not get to ride with them because the weather forecast was rain for two days and we had already put the bike in trailer to leave next day. Friday Al, Cathy, Joe, Jackie left to OH, Cheryl and I left for Nashville,TN. The KOA Campground/Resort is a great place to go and stay. Riding in Nashville is not to much fun, you need a GPS and traffic. We did find a road however that is beautiful to ride on. The road starts in Nashville and ends near New Orleans( fill your tank, there are no gas stations) the name is Natchez Trance Parkway, a four hundred plus mile ride. We had a great time and glad to be home. MIKE AND CHERYL ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS JIM & CAROL CULLER Hello Everyone: Several Chapter B Members made it to WingDing in Knoxville, Tennessee. We left on a beautiful sunny morning, August 29 th with 4 other bikes led by Rich and Susan. Susan laid out a great route which didn t include Rts 71 or 75 and we ended in Sevierville, Tn. About 5:30 pm. We did stop and put on our rain suits at least 3 times. Every time we put them on we would ride just a little and would run into a dry road and the heat would dry us off. Even with the rain, we had a great ride. Our trip was 5 days with a little rain 3 out of the 5. But, no rain at all on the way home..just a lot of heat. We did manage to get a lot of really nice riding while we were in Sevierville led by Rich and Susan. We can t thank them enough for all the thought and planning they put into making sure we all had a great trip. We want to thank Mary and Scott for arranging the dinner 4

show to Dolly Pardon s Stampede which we all enjoyed the show and the dinner. We had never been to a dinner show before and really enjoyed it. THANKS, MARY AND SCOTT!! Thanks to Rich and Susan for sharing their room, as it was large enough for all of us to gather to talk and play dice on the last night we were there. We all had a great time. Remember it s the ride and those you ride with! Susan and Rich DISTRICT EDUCATOR OHIO - GWRRA BILL AND PAT STILES Everybody Have a Great Day! Share Group Riding: 17 Tips to ensure a great ride. The engine purrs beneath you as a string of motorcycles snake through the hills in front of you. With a quick look in the mirror, you see close behind with a smile on his face that matches yours. The camaraderie forms because, at just this moment, you're all on the same page. That's what a group ride is all about. It's an opportunity to share the open road and wonderful scenery with other likeminded people. 7

But like most motorcycle experiences, this one is best enjoyed by following a few simple guidelines that keep everyone safe. Here are a few from our friends at the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. 1. The first thing you want to do is organize the ride. This can be as informal as standing around in a parking lot, or as formal as a special meeting to hand out maps and cellphone numbers..2. Remember that riding in a group does not mean you surrender any decision-making when it comes to your safety. Ride your own ride, and don't go any faster than you feel comfortable going. 3. When picking your route and the stops you'll make along it, consider the stamina of the group, the experience of all the riders, and the limits of the motorcycles in the group. Remember, these are your friends. If it's going to be a long ride, be sure to take a few breaks along the way. 4. You'll need to communicate while on the ride, so make sure everyone knows the signals you'll use. 5. When creating your formation, it's wise to have your experienced riders at the lead and running sweep. Consider positioning the lessexperienced riders immediately behind the leader. This allows the front rider to adjust the pace if necessary. 6. Ideally, the sweep rider will have a cellphone to call for help if a motorcycle is disabled, or if there has been an accident. 7. If the goal of the ride is to keep the group together, the leader should only go at the pace of the least-experienced rider. 8. While riding, don't fixate on the motorcycle in front of you. Instead, remember your basic training. Look well through the turn to where you want to go. 9. If the group is riding faster than you are comfortable with, let the sweep rider know you're dropping out and ride at your own pace. So you may reach your destination a few seconds behind the others, but you will get there, and that's what's important. Keep in mind, it's all about fun. 10. All riders are also responsible for making sure their motorcycles are mechanically up to the task. Before you even meet up with the group, make sure you've got plenty of fuel in the tank, and that you've taken care of all those maintenance issues. Not sure what to check? Use T-Clock. You really don't want to be the reason for stopping the group for something mechanical you could have prevented. 8

11. If it's going to be a large group, consider establishing a buddy system among the riders, or divide the group into smaller five- or seven-rider packs. That way, if something goes wrong, you don't have 25 motorcycles sitting on the side of a busy highway. Also, smaller groups can more easily navigate through city streets. 12. On the road, motorcyclist s front and behind them. If you want to keep the group tight, consider a staggered formation. Leave enough room per lane so each rider can maneuver side-to-side if need be. Avoid side-by-side formations as they shrink your space cushion. 13. Trikes and sidecars should stay in the center of the lane, and should be given the same amount of cushion as if they were a car. 14. As turns get sharper, or as visibility decreases, move back to a single file formation. You'll also want to use single file when entering or exiting a highway, at toll booths, or when roads have a rough or questionable surface. 15. At intersections where you've come to a stop, tighten the formation to side-by-side to take up less space. As the light turns green, or when traffic opens up, the bike on the left proceeds through the intersection first. 16. Remember we share the road with many other vehicles, and it's against the law to block an intersection. 17. When parking, try to get the group off the roadway as quickly as possible. If you can, arrange in advance to have pull-through parking at your destination, or at the very least, make sure there is ample parking for your size group.. Have a great day and be safe Bill & Pat Stiles District Educators 9

DINNER RIDE COORDINATORS LARRY & KAREN BLAND We are all back from Wing Ding and now have to get back in routine again. We were very fortunate and was able to ride to Wing Ding without a drop of rain, but it was very hot. We had an awesome time with the group of people who went. We had a wonderful evening listening to the 50 s and 60 s music at a Dinner Theater and had a wonderful ride led by Al & Cathy around Cherokee Dam with beautiful scenery until the rain started, but luckily we stopped just in time to put the rain gear on. Then down the road was a gully washer and had to stop and go to cover until it stopped within a few minutes. We had lots of laughs while we were waiting for the rain to stop. Also had another awesome ride led by Rich & Susan in which we saw an old covered bridge. We took a leisurely ride on a very winding road. I believe it was 11 miles long and I think we counted 326 turns. Then we came to the end of the road and it was piled with rocks and we couldn t go any further so we had to turn around and go back the same way. This ride also we had to put the rain gear on, but came to dry weather within no time. We also went to the Dolly Stampede Dinner Show. We thought it would be best to take the trolley to it because of parking and in case of rain. We hopped on the trolley and was all excited and we were only to be on it for approximately 45 minutes and were to be at our destination. We were on the trolley for approximately 1 1/2 hours. So many good laughs and fun times. The next dinner will be at Main Street Diner (Formerly Hunger Paynes) at Crestline. We will meet at the restaurant at 6:00 for dinner. Larry and Karen 10

2018 COUPLE OF THE YEAR DON SCHROEDER & DEB PARKS 29 days, 21 states and 7840 miles. What a trip out to the west coast. Deb and I, Debbe and Larry Steinhilber, Phyllis and Charlie Barnette and my friends Noah and Steph Wallace were able to take a motorcycle trip out to the west coast seeing Washington, Oregon and California coast line riding Route 101 and Highway 1. Pictures do it no justice. We were able to see Columbia River Gorge in Washington, lots of coast line in Oregon, including seals at Seal Rock. Here is a picture of the seals at Seal Rock. We were also able to drive across the Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco. Pictures of us all at the bridge, as noted, fog. Noah and Steph had to return home back to Wisconsin, so the rest of us continued on. Charlie and Phyllis were able to visit her brother while we were in California and Debbe and Larry went and visited their grandson who is in the service stationed in California. Phyllis, Charlie and Deb and I headed back east to see Zion National Park, Bryce National Park and Yosemite National Park. All of them were absolutely beautiful. Deb and I REALLY enjoyed Yosemite. There were a few hot spots from the fire that had been in the park just prior to our visit. Yosemite had been closed two days prior because of the fires. We did NOT see any of the fires that had been mentioned and talked about. We would get a whiff of smoke every now and then. Debbe and Larry met up with us in Page Arizona. Debbe, Deb, Larry and myself took a boat ride on Lake Powell there in Page. We enjoyed the beautiful rock formations that we were able to ride thru on the boat. 11

We continued our journey back east. Debbe and Larry split off in Missouri headed back to Ohio. Phyllis, Charlie, Deb and I headed to the 40 th Wing Ding held in Knoxville this year. It is my understanding that we were well represented as 5 or 6 couples from our chapter were able to attend. We had a day to kill before the rally started on Wednesday. We rode the Devil s Triangle (Route 116) and we were then able to get a ride in on the Tail of the Dragon. It is the first Deb has been on it and she enjoyed the hills and curves. We got to the rally on Wednesday and was able to visit with lots of the vendors. There was a very nice turnout and the vendors were busy. We are sorry that we were unable to attend the August monthly meeting. We always enjoy attending the meetings and the activities planned after the meeting. We are looking forward to the September meeting and the plans after the meeting (especially the ICE CREAM). Well best get this submitted. I am already 4 days late. This Chapter is like a big family and we re blessed to be part of it. Live Life, Stay safe Deb and Don NEWSLETTER EDITORS JIM AND CAROL CULLER Hello: Well, this summer sure has flown by. We re already discussing and planning the Halloween Party at Al & Cathy s and the Christmas Party which is to be held at the Liederkrantz this year. As far as the Halloween Party, Al and Cathy will be preparing a stew and everyone is to bring a covered dish (with food in it). Dan & Phyllis Kerr has been hosting it, but will be busy this year and will resume next year. The Christmas Party will be held at the Liederkrantz Appetizers at 6 pm. Dinner at 7 p.m. As always, the staff will be bringing all the appetizers and there will be a cash bar. Also, the Leaf Ride is coming up on October 13 th & 14 th with a ride to Dogwood Pass in Beaver, Ohio. This sounds like a fantastic ride traveling back in time to the Old West. We ll be staying Saturday night and returning on Sunday. Hope we see you there. SEE YOU SOON, JIM AND CAROL 12

SUNSHINE LADY BARB HOWARD Hi All: All long time Chapter B Member, Tom Bernat, passed away September 1 st. Tom has not been active with the Chapter for quite some time, but was very active in past years. Gus Garverick passed away on September 3 rd. Gus was on a few rides with Chapter B a few years back. Gus and Dale Crowl were very good friends. We heard that Frank Snyder has had another surgery. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family. SEE YOU SOON, BARB MEMBERSHIP ENHANCEMENT BONNIE LANTZ HELLO EVERYONE. This has been a really warm past couple of months; I think summer is her, just in case anyone was wondering. My garden is doing quite well but the orchard is doing nothing. Hopefully, there should be apples next year. If anyone wants any tomatoes or burpless cucumbers just come out. I have canned all that I am going to do. I helped at the Shiloh Ox Roast and today at the Richland County Fair; it was my first time for both as Jerry and I was never home when this occurred. I had a good time being the fry girl, onion rings and cheese sticks girl. My summer has been pretty boring except for when I fell in the yard and had to go to the emergency room. Bonnie 13
