Be sure to complete all information including Address so we can update our records. Directors Notes The Gateway Regional Directors, wish all Retread members a HAPPY NEW YEAR. We hope that you had a Very MERRY CHRISTMAS, with you families and friends. We here in Northern Arkansas, had our Christmas party and a New Years day breakfast. As we ring in the New Year it's also time to renew your membership, you will find a renewal form in this news letter. When you fill it out, note that you and your spouse or significant other need to sign the application; we need to have them on file at Gateway Region, signed by persons register with the club. Now that we are in the winter months, I know that some still ride your bikes, so be so very careful out there. Road condition can be hazard, as well as the wind chill factor when riding in the cold air. When riding in the winter months remember to layer up, to keep from losing your body heat. A good outer shell winter riding jacket is a must. If you need additional warming layers, consider synthetic fleece, it does a great job of retaining heat without trapping moisture. If you need more, you might consider a heated vest or heated jacket liner. All of this will keep your core warn, but don't forget your hands and feet, they are also important when it come to keeping warm, heated gloves can help with the hands a good pair of boots and wool sock are a good start for your feet. There are other things, that we as a group have to deal with and that is age, and I for one, am in that group, in fact you have to be 40 to even join the Retards. 2 Directors Notes Cont. The American Motorcyclist Association has some thought for riders over 40; I will note some of their information. (1)" If it starts raining, the best thing a rider can do is slow down". Remember to ride safe, and keep the shiny side up... (3) "While age can provide a rider with wisdom and riding experience, the health effects of aging can affect a rider's ability to ride safely. For example, generally speaking, night vision is poorer, overall strength decreases, and reaction time increases with age". (4) "As a rider ages, muscle tone and strength deteriorate, and endurance and reaction time diminish, those changers can delay a rider's inputs to steer, stop, or accelerate away from a hazard". (5)"Riders age 60 and over should have annual eye check-ups for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and other conditions associated with aging". Departed Members In other words don't let your 16 year old brain lure you into doing something your guardian angel, tells you is wrong. If you plan on attending the International Rally this July 29 thru August 1, 2019 you might want to sign up now, and look for accommodation in the Spearfish, South Dakota area. We have been told motel space is going fast. Sturgis rally is the week following the International Rally, so motel rooms are becoming scarce. Mike Howard passed away of a sudden heart attack on Dec. 31, He was an important member of the North Arkansas Retreads and will be missed by all. Our sympathy and prayers go out to his wife Colleen and their entire family on the loss of their loved one. Page 2

What: North Arkansas Spring Fling Retread Rally When: May 16 18, 2019 Where: Mountain View RV Park Buddy & Cheryl Harrison Other Hotels: Econolodge (formerly Best Western) Dogwood Motel Day s Inn Pinewood Cabins & Motel Ozark RV Park Before you know it, it ll be spring! The 2019 Spring Fling registration form is not in January s newsletter because potential price increases are not yet available. BUT, you can mark the date on your calendar and reserve a hotel or campground spot now, and complete the rally registration form later. As soon as we can confirm prices for 2019, and the registration form is complete (probably late January), the forms will put it on the Gateway website (gatewayregionalretreads.com), on Facebook, and in the March Newsletter. If you cannot get the form off the computer or from a newsletter, call us at (870) and we will happily mail you a copy. Take care of yourselves and we ll see you in Mountain View. 6 South Arkansas Retreads December 24, 2018 Hello and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Russellville, AR I am late in getting an update posted. We ve been very busy since the Dutch Treat Rally. Bobby and I want to thank all that came to the Dutch Treat this year. WE really appreciated all of the help that was given in setting up, during the rally and pulling everything down when it was over. There is no way to express our thanks enough to this great group of people. Next year is the 40 th and last Dutch Treat Rally. We would love to have everyone that can make it be there. It will be the 19 th, 20 th & 21 st of September, We will be giving a free t-shirt, with registrations, to anyone that wants one. Please make sure send your shirt size along with your registration. I will need these in by the 26 th of August. The registration form will be posted next month. Also, this year I would like to make a memory wall for all of the members that had come to the rally over the 40 years, and are no longer with us. Could you please send the names of any members you know that have passed on, so I can include them. And I would also like pictures if anyone has some they could share. If you have any questions, please give me a call at (home) or (cell). I would like to hear from you pretty soon, as this project is going to take a while to get together. 7 Springfield MO Area Retreads Springfield Retreads November Meeting We had 12 members attend our dinner meeting at Cedars South. Three new people joined up with us, and we'd like to welcome Bonnie Bonner, Les Workman, and Karen Clement to our Retread family. The Feltons had a good night, winning several cash and lottery ticket drawings. I think David was a bit embarrassed that his number kept getting drawn, but it was just his lucky night. We decided that our next meeting in December would be our Christmas celebration, and we chose to make it a "White Elephant" gift exchange, and keep saving our club money this Winter. Our chapter is growing in number and in positivity. Many thanks to Dorothy and Omar Crafton for "jump-starting" us. I believe we will get off the porch and run with the big dogs now. 8 Cuba MO Area Retreads Nov. 10, 2018 Dottie's Restaurant Cuba, MO It was a cold day, but we have 11 smiling faces at the meeting. Donna Richardson had the only Nov. birthday to celebrate; therefore she won the $2.00 birthday prize. Two special couples celebrated their anniversaries this month. Marvin & Donna Richardson's on Nov. 2nd and Jim & Mary Hollandsworth on Nov. 23rd. Happy Anniversary to both couples. The donated buffet ticket from Dottie's Restaurant was won by Jack Ferling. Other donated prizes were won by Marvin R., Jack F., Jim L., Mae D., & Joe E. Joe E. & Jim L. won the 50/50 drawing. Our club will be having our Christmas party at Silver Dollar Saloon at Swiss, MO on Dec. 2nd at 1:00 pm. Anyone wanting to participate may bring a guy gift for a guy and a gal gift for a gal with a $10.00 limit. I pray that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dec. 2, 2018 Christmas party There were 14 smiling faces at our Christmas party. A gift exchange was enjoyed by all. Our party was at the Silver Dollar Saloon in Swiss and I highly recommend their food and atmosphere. Dec. 8, 2018 Fourteen members attended the meeting tonight. Jack Ferling was the only birthday this month and of course he was gifted with a $2.00 bill. No anniversaries to celebrate this month. Marvin Richardson won the donated buffet from Dottie's and Marvin & Darlene Jones won the 50/50 drawing. Other club donated prizes were won by Darlene, Garth, Mae, Jim H., Marvin, Jim L., Jack and Randy. Our club prays that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Safe New Year.
