6 General Information Location The main events of the conference take place in three university buildings on Mappin Street: the (S1 3JD), the Portobello Centre (S1 4ET), and 9 Mappin Street (S1 4DT). Directional signs are posted in the immediate area. Food Lunches and refreshments are included with your registration. Dinner on the first night of the conference is unsubsidized. Please bring cash in sterling. Dinner on the second night is for speakers, organizers, and other attendees who purchased a dinner ticket with their registration. Please inform the organizers if you have any dietary restrictions. Accommodation Conference accommodation, for those who booked it with their registration, is in the Endcliffe Village student halls, with breakfast provided on site at The Edge Café/Bar. Rooms are single occupancy with en suite bathrooms. Accommodation reception is located at The Edge, 34 Endcliffe Crescent, Sheffield, S10 3ED. Buses Bus route 120 runs between Endcliffe Village (nearest stop: Fulwood Road / Shore Lane) and the conference venues on Mappin Street (nearest stop: West Street / Mappin Street). A single fare to the City Centre, among other tickets/passes, can be purchased from the driver; a student single (requires ID from a NUS-affiliated institution) is 1.00, adult singles might be up to You do not need to carry exact change, but banknotes may not be accepted and card payment is not possible. Buses in Sheffield are operated by a variety of companies, most prominently First, Stagecoach, and TM Travel. Route 120 is operated by both First and Stagecoach, depending on the time of day. Some fare types cover multiple carriers, some must be used only on one carrier. Be sure to inform the driver or agent which services you will require. Rail Multiple services are available to get to Sheffield by rail. Consult National Rail s website for information: Taking the tram is the fastest way to get from the rail station to the main conference venues. From the tram platform in the rail station, take the Blue Line (towards Malin Bridge) to West Street. Mappin Street is a short walk west from the stop. 7 Bus route 120 is also an option for getting between the rail station and Endcliffe Village. From the train station: cross Sheaf Street, and follow the covered footpath on your right to Sheffield Interchange; the bus (120 to Fulwood or Ranmoor) stops on Pond Street, opposite the main part of the interchange; alight at Fulwood Road / Shore Lane. From Endcliffe Village: go north out of the village and catch the bus (120 to Halfway) at Fulwood Road / Endcliffe Vale Road; alight at Arundel Gate Interchange; walk through the Sheffield Hallam University City Campus to the train station. Walking The walk between Endcliffe Village and the conference venues takes minutes. The best route to take is either to: (i) Go north out of the village, turn northeast (right) onto Fulwood Road (continues as Whitham Road, Western Bank, Brook Hill, and Broad Lane), and turn south (right) onto Mappin Street; or (ii) Go south out of the village, turn east (left) onto Endcliffe Vale Road, turn north (left) onto Brocco Bank (continues as Clarkhouse Road), continue northeast (slight right) on Glossop Road (continues as West Street), and turn north (left) onto Mappin Street. 8 Bursaries Thanks to the Analysis Trust, a small amount of funds are available for partial reimbursement of postgraduate accommodation and maintenance costs. Please note that the Trust does not permit us to use their funds to reimburse travel costs, hence we cannot guarantee that any travel costs can be covered by the conference. Thanks to SWIP-UK, a small amount of funds are available for partial reimbursement of daycare costs for speakers at the conference. Exact amounts will depend upon the number of applications we receive to each bursary, and are likely not to cover the full amount. If you wish to apply for either of these bursaries, please take a form from the registration desk, and keep all of your receipts.
