Scope Monday 11 June Taftie Annual Conference We target the participation of up to 80 delegates, of which various representatives of High Growth SMEs firms taking about the challenges and barriers to growth (and in particular, innovation based growth) as well as the role of public sector support/advice/programmes to help overcome them. Other participants will include well known high growth firms and innovators, business investors and policy makers. Key speakers from European Commission, UK ministerial staff and policy think tanks are also planned. International TAFTIE counterparts such as KIAT in Korea, Innovation Fund in Serbia and the Technology Innovation Agency in South Africa have been invited. In the afternoon, three workshops involving experts in three key subjects for High Growth Firms the role of government in supporting High Growth Firms; the type of support services relevant to High Growth Firms; how to help High Growth Firms access finance - will take place. You have been asked to register to one of these three workshops via a doodle poll. Conference Keynote Speaker Will Butler-Adams, Managing Director of Brompton Bicycle. Brompton Bicycle is a success story that is demonstrating the value of the UK s manufacturing sector. The current UK government has recognized it with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable having started a recent manufacturing summit with a visit to Brompton s West London factory. Much of the success of the company goes to the it s ebullient young managing director Will Butler- Adams who, since joining in 2002 and taking over from the firm s founder Andrew Ritchie as MD in 2008, has seen production rocket from 7,000 to 30,000 bikes per year. At the Taftie Annual conference, Mr Butler-Adams will be talking about innovation and entrepreneurship and how governments can support innovative firms like his. He will also answer the audience s questions and participate to the afternoon workshops.

4 Evening plans Meet at 18:30 at front entrance of Møller Centre and 10 minutes later at the Felix hotel where transport will collect you for the short journey into the City Centre. Blue Badge guides will be taking the group on a tour Cambridge Colleges. A pre-dinner drinks reception will be held at the Westminster College Chapel from 19:00. Dinner will be served at 20:30 at Westminster College. Westminster College history The college was founded in London in 1844 with a temporary home in the Exeter Hall before moving to permanent premises in Queen's Square, London in It then moved to Cambridge in 1899 following the gift of a prime site of land near the centre of the city by two Scottish sisters, Agnes Smith Lewis and Margaret Dunlop Gibson, both noted biblical scholars. Following an appeal for funds from the wider Presbyterian congregation, the college commissioned a new building designed by Henry Hare and built between In 1967 the college began to amalgamate with Cheshunt College, Cambridge, presaging the union of the Congregational and Presbyterian churches to form the United Reformed Church in 1972.

5 Accommodation Board Members have double rooms 1 reserved at Møller Centre within Churchill College Cambridge for ease of participation to both the Annual Conference and the Board Meeting. Executive Working Group Members participating to the Conference and requiring accommodation are advised to contact Hotel Felix (walking distance to Møller Centre; four star boutique hotel, located at Whitehouse CB3 0LX, tel: ), or alternatively the Premier Inn Cambridge North (Huntingdon Road, Cambridge CB3 0DR, tel: ). More hotels can be available in the centre of Cambridge ( however the Møller Centre will be a taxi journey away. IV. Travel tips Airports and train/bus/taxi connections The Møller Centre is at the crossroads of the UK s main transport network, being just one mile from the M11 motorway and a short taxi ride from Cambridge railway station with its frequent express services to London Kings Cross (45 minutes), London Liverpool Street (1 hour and 15 minutes) and Stansted Airport (30 minutes). Travelling by car, if using navigation devices or Google Maps, please note that they are not providing accurate information for the last stage of your journey. Please use these directions by clicking here). There is free parking for over 150 cars at The Møller Centre. For rail or coach travel to The Møller Centre, the lines from London s Kings Cross and Liverpool Street stations provide rapid access from London, in less than an hour. Cambridge has a direct connection to London Stansted airport (28 miles away). For more details please go to The Trainline trainline.com. Travelling by bus within Cambridge: Cambridge has a network of buses run by Stagecoach. The buses that run along Madingley Road are the Citi 4/Uni 4 and the Madingley Road Park and Ride bus (alight at Grange Road or JJ Thompson Avenue). Buses running along Huntingdon Road are the Citi 5/ Citi 6 (alight at Storey's Way). From these routes it is a short walk to The Møller Centre. Please note that there are no direct buses from the railway station to The Møller Centre. You can either take a taxi or take a Citi 1 or Citi 3 to the city centre (Drummer Street) and from there change to a Citi 4 or the Madingley Road Park and Ride.
