The goal statement for the Facilitators Institute Training (FIT) is to, prepare facilitators to present BCTF workshops in an engaging and interactive manner while representing the BCTF. (June 11 Ex, p. 11) All BCTF facilitators should participate in the institute. Only rookie (new) facilitators should attend the Rookie session at 9:00 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, August 19. All experienced facilitators should be at TRU for a 12:00 p.m. start on Saturday, August 19. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the Rotunda. o Breakfast will be provided for rookie facilitators only, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19. o Breakfast will be provided for all facilitators from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 20 and Monday, August 21. o Lunch will be provided for all facilitators from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19. 1
2 Online registration, accessible through the BCTF Member Portal, will be available at a later date. Information to follow in FIT Memo 2. Accommodation and per diems will not be provided to experienced facilitators for Friday, August 18, unless no other travel arrangements can be made. Please consult Jenny Garrels, prior to the Institute, should this be the case. The facilitator networks include the following: Aboriginal Education, Assessment, French Programs and Services, Health and Safety, School Culture, School Union Representative Training, Social Justice, Strengthening Teaching, Student Behaviour, Teachers Teaching on Call, Wellness, and Women in Negotiations. 1. Online registration Online registration will be available soon. Information and a registration link will follow. 3 local phone calls and voic satellite TV air conditioning complimentary internet access full housekeeping and linen service outdoor patio with BBQ facilities lounges and multimedia room cardio facilities on the 10th floor 24-hour staffed front desk complimentary parking in the lot behind The Residence at TRU check-in at 4:00 p.m., check out at 11:00 a.m. If you intend on sharing a suite, please elect one person only to send in a request on behalf of your group. The block of suites will be held until the morning of Friday, July 28, 2017 based on a first-come/first-served policy. Any and all special requests must be made prior to Friday, July 28, (Room and view preference not guaranteed.) Check in is 4:00 p.m. and check out is 11:00 a.m. Your accommodation will be billed directly to the BCTF. Special room requirements on campus If you require a barrier-free room or have any special room requirements, please contact Michele Hope at the BCTF ( /toll free (local 1860)). Barrier-free rooms can only be booked by Michele. 3. Accommodation off campus (for delegates travelling with families) A block of rooms has been reserved at Kamloops hotels for FIT delegates travelling with immediate family members. This accommodation is ONLY for delegates travelling with their immediate families. All delegates travelling without families must stay on campus at the Residence & Conference Centre at TRU. The $20 shared accommodation allowance does not apply to FIT. For your information, other hotels will be included in FIT Memo 2. 4 Contact the hotel directly to book your room and let them know you are with the BCTF, or use the group code provided above. Your room and tax will be billed directly to the BCTF. All room upgrades and any incidental charges are the responsibility of the member. Reservations that are not cancelled appropriately will be the responsibility of the member. The room sharing allowance is not applicable to any hotel booking for FIT. 4. Staying with family or friends If staying with family or friends, $30 per night may be claimed in lieu of accommodation. 5. Parking Accommodation at TRU includes parking in the lot behind the residence. Accommodation at the hotel includes parking. Day parking at TRU is available for $2 or $3/day and may be claimed on your expense voucher in the section marked TRANSPORTATION. BCTF will not cover parking violation tickets. 6. Travelling to FIT BCTF Policy 10.I.04: That as a general rule, staff persons and members should use the fastest and most economical mode of transportation. a. Travelling by automobile BCTF Policy 10.I.04 (Special Regulations Governing Use of Automobiles): Persons travelling by automobile... may claim only for the accommodation, meals and other expenses that would have been claimable if public transportation had actually been used. BCTF Policy 10.I.04 (2): Persons travelling on BCTF business are expected to pool the use of cars whenever possible. b. Travelling by air The June 24, 2007 Representative Assembly passed the following motion: All air travel arrangements for BCTF business be booked through the BCTF travel agent. Therefore, all travel must be booked through WE Travel and will be billed directly to the BCTF. 5 If you are flying from Dawson Creek or Fort Nelson, please book your flights prior to June 30, which is when the airfare escalates from these districts. *** If you are attending the BCTF Summer Leadership Conference after FIT, you should charge the travel cost to P Expenses incurred while attending summer conference should be charged to the summer conference code, P270. Dinner on Monday, August 21, should be charged to FIT if you are staying for summer conference. Contact WE Travel to make flight arrangements: / Please check your itinerary. Transportation from the airport Kami Cabs Kami Cabs has been serving Kamloops and region since They are locally owned and operated and provide wheelchair accessible taxis upon request. They accept MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. Call or toll free Yellow Cabs Serving the Kamloops region since 1946, Yellow Cabs is locally owned and operated and provides wheelchair accessible vehicles upon request. In addition to cash, MasterCard, American Express, and Visa are accepted. Call or toll-free or TAXI. Airport shuttle The airport shuttle offers door-to-door shuttle service to and from the airport. They are located at the airport to meet all arriving flights and serve all hotels in the region. They operate both 6- and 11-passenger vans and are able to provide special group rates. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Contact them at Downtown is $11 $13 per person, TRU is $16 but will negotiate a rate based on number of people. Please use the shuttle service or share taxis whenever possible. Airport shuttle and taxi service may be claimed on your expense voucher in the section marked TRANSPORTATION. c. Travelling by ferry Receipts for ferry (one way) are required. Ferry travel is reimbursed for delegates only. 5
6 7. Cheque advances If you require a cheque advance to attend FIT, please contact Michele Hope at /toll free (local 1860). A minimum of three weeks notice is required. 8. Meals Please do NOT claim for the following meals: Breakfast will be provided for rookies only on Saturday, August 19. Breakfast will also be provided for all facilitators on Sunday, August 20, and Monday, August 21. Lunch will be provided for all facilitators on Saturday, August Childcare Childcare will be available as follows: Children 5 and older: TRU Sports Camps. Children under 5 Interior Health Community Care Licensing Regulations and the requirements flowing from these regulations prohibit the BCTF from setting up a daycare, as has been done in past. Memo No. 2 will contain information for members on other options for arranging care for their children who are under five years of age. Further information on childcare, for all ages, will be available in FIT Memo a. No scent policy A reminder that BCTF meetings are to be scent free. Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or any scented products. b. No nut policy BCTF meetings are nut-free zones.
