1 Conference Information The Medical Image Understanding and Analysis 2013 Conference takes place at the Edgbaston campus of the University of Birmingham, which is accessible via car, train, or bus. The Molecular Imaging workshop on the 17 th of July is located in the School of Computer Science, while the conference proper takes place on the 18 th and 19 th of July in the Centre for Professional Development in the Medical School. A food court is available on campus, and Birmingham city centre is ten minutes away via train. Accommodation is available in the Mason Halls of Residence in the Vale Village, which is a twenty minute walk from the Edgbaston campus. The conference dinner, which takes place on Thursday the 18 th of July, will be held at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground Pavilion. Registration for the conference is held at the School of Computer Science on the 17 th, and at the Centre for Professional Development in the Medical School on the 18 th and 19 th. 3 Travel Via car: If approaching from the M6 (north west or south east), leave at Junction 6 onto the A38. If approaching from the M42 north, join the M6 at Junction 8 and follow the previous instructions. If approaching from the M5 (south west), leave at Junction 4 onto the A38. If approaching from the M40, turn south on the M42 and leave at Junction 1 onto the A38. Pay & display car parks are available on campus. Note: the tunnels through Birmingham city centre are closed from the 19 th of July onwards so plan your route with care. Via railway: London Midland and Virgin trains regularly travel between Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham New Street Station between 06:00 and 00:00. From Birmingham New Street Station, London Midland trains regularly travel to University station (terminating at Longbridge or Redditch) between 06:00 and 23:00. University station is a five minutes walk away from the conference venues. Via bus: Bus routes 61 and 63 travel between Birmingham city centre and the Edgbaston Campus. Routes 98 and 99 travel between Birmingham city centre, the Vale Village, and University station. Via taxi: There are taxi ranks Birmingham International Airport, and Birmingham city centre. Journeys to the University of Birmingham s Edgbaston campus take approximately thirty, and ten minutes, respectively. Taxi companies operating around Birmingham include Castle Cars ( ), A2B Cars ( ), and 247 Radio Cars ( ). 3

5 Accommodation Ensuite rooms in Mason Halls of Residence at the Vale Village (B15 35Z) are reserved for registered delegates on the 17 th and 18 th of July. Delegates can check in and pickup keys from Shackleton Hall after 14:00, and must check out before 10:00. Minibuses will take delegates from Mason Hall to the conference venue for breakfast between 08:00 and 08:30 on the 18 th and 19 th. Otherwise, it takes 20 minutes to walk between the Vale and the Edgbaston campus via footpath, or via canal for a more scenic route. There are also public buses from the Vale to the Edgbaston campus and into the centre of Birmingham. 6 Food and drink Refreshments will be provided at the workshop on Wednesday the 17 th of July, but there is no catering for an evening meal. A bar named Staff House which serves sandwiches is available on campus, and Bristol Road, which contains a variety of pubs and restaurants, is a ten minute walk from the campus. Breakfast and lunch on the 18 th will be provided at the conference venue, and the conference dinner will take place at 19:15 at Edgbaston cricket ground: Edgbaston Stadium The County Ground Edgbaston Birmingham B5 7QU A coach will take registered delegates from Mason Hall to the cricket ground at 18:20. In addition, public bus routes 1, 45, and 47 travel between Birmingham city centre and the cricket ground. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the 19th of July at the conference venue. 6

7 Birmingham The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is situated within the university campus, and has free admission. Winterbourne House and Garden (58 Edgbaston Park Road, B15 2RT), including a botanical garden, is also within easy walking distance of the campus. Birmingham city centre is easily accessible from the University of Birmingham via a ten minute train journey to Birmingham New Street Station, or via bus if that is preferred. The Bullring Shopping Centre and a number of restaurants and pubs are within a few minutes walking distance of the train station, as is a cinema. Birmingham also hosts a number of attractions, including Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (Chamberlain Square, B3 3DH); Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum (Millennium Point, Curzon Street, B4 7XG); and the National SEA LIFE centre (The Waters Edge, Brindley Place, B1 2HL). 7
