2 SCTPO Presents Annual Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trails Advisory Committee Awards At the May 10, 2018, TPO Governing Board Meeting, SCTPO staff recognized individuals and/or groups within the community that have gone above and beyond in their field of expertise, encouraging and promoting bicycle/pedestrian programs. The awards are as follows: Get on the Trail Award City of Titusville - Presented to Scott Larese, City Manager, and Edyie McCall, Economic Development Director and Trail Coordination. The City of Titusville, Florida - Gateway to Nature and Space received the 'Get on a Trail' award for its continued efforts in establishing Titusville as a trail town. Brian Vail, citizen of the Town of Malabar, received the 'Get on a Trail' award for playing a key role in both the design and construction of the Cameron Trail Shelter in Malabar s Richard E. Cameron and Volunteers Preserve. Encouragement Award Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce - Marcia Gaedcke and Nicole Hall of the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce received the 'Encouragement Award' for their endless dedication and support in making the Rail Trail opening events a huge success. As chamber champions, they have also embraced Titusville's new identity as a trail town and have spearheaded many events to promote trails. Community Partner Award Kerri Lubeski, Life Safety Specialist for Titusville Fire and Emergency Services received the 'Community Partner' award for her continued partnership on TPO outreach initiatives. Her dedication and work extends the reach of the TPO s traffic safety mission. Enforcement Award Melbourne Police Department - Traffic Unit, the traffic unit received the 'Enforcement Award' for its strategic and successful operational details which include: Operation Street Smart and Operation Busted. At the end of these campaigns, these officers had educated countless citizens in an effort to improve traffic safety. Engineering Award Sarah Van Gundy, received the 'Engineering Award' for her unending efforts and persistence as the FDOT Central Florida Project Manager for the SR-A1A resurfacing project in Cocoa Beach. Education Award Julia Barnhouse, PE teacher at Roy Allen Elementary, received the 'Education Award' for her long time dedication to bicycle and pedestrian safety education. Robert S. Kamm Award of Excellence Murray Hann, long-time BPTAC member and past-chair, received the Robert S. Kamm Award of Excellence for his 10+ years of community service and TPO involvement. 3 FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS Eggs were dropping at Oak Park Elementary School on Thursday, May 17! Ladder Truck 13 was assisting in the annual 4 th grade egg drop contest. Students used household materials to pack around a raw egg to help them learn physics in a fun and gooey way. Acting Lieutenant Senger, Acting Driver/Operator Lane and Firefighter Russo got the ladder truck positioned just right for the eggs to be tossed from the very top. Students eagerly awaited for their egg to make the journey up the 100 ft. ladder in the hands of Firefighter Russo. Thirty five students eggs survived the drop! They received a Titusville Fire Certificate of Survival and one lucky winner was randomly drawn to win a family four pack of tickets to the Kennedy Space Center compliments of Country Inn & Suites in Cape Canaveral Fl. Hurricane Season - June 1st Nov 30, 2018!! The hurricane season, which officially starts today, is upon us. As we always say here at Titusville Fire and Emergency Services, it s never too early to prepare you and your family.

4 St. Gabriel s Episcopal Church hosted their annual Tongues of Fire Chili Cook Off contest on Pentecostal Sunday, May 20. Titusville Fire Engine 11 Acting Lieutenant Harper, Acting Driver/Operator Birge, Firefighter Mendiola, District 10 Chief Smith and Life Safety Specialist Lubeski were invited to judge eight samples of chili. Three winners were selected and awarded cash prizes by Father Rob. On Thursday, May 24, Parrish Medical Center hosted a Mastering Parenthood program at the Children s Center. The program was free to parents with children ages birth to three years. Titusville Fire Training Chief Sutton and Life Safety Specialist Lubeski were on hand to assist parents with car seat checks. A total of seven seats were checked with educational materials distributed. If you need assistance with your child passenger seat, or know someone who may need help, please call Kerri Lubeski at

5 Walgreen s National Red Nose Day was Thursday, May 24 th! Who better to support the day other than Titusville Fire s Ember the Fire Safety Clown! Ember had the chance to visit the Walgreens on Garden and Singleton and Barna and Harrison. Ember greeted customers and reminded them to support the campaign to end child poverty. Lots of selfies were taken and smiles were big. City Hall joined in on the fun!

7 POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS On Monday, May 21 st, the Titusville Police K9 Team attended an end of the year positive behavior event at Oak Park Elementary School. The students didn t let the rain dampen their fun, so they took shelter under the awning of the Police Mobile Command Unit and enjoyed the demonstration put on by the K9 officers and their partners. During the week of May 21 st, the Titusville Police Department hosted FBI LEEDA (CLI) Command Leadership Institute training to over 40 Law Enforcement Professionals from all over the state. The CLI is a dynamic and challenging program uniquely designed to prepare law enforcement leaders for command level positions. This training provides real-life, contemporary, bestpractice strategies and techniques for those who are already commanders or are aspiring to a command level assignment

8 Titusville Police were out at Apollo Elementary School giving High 5 s to students for a successful school year and wishing them a fun and safe summer! The Titusville Police Department participated in the North Brevard Parks and Recreation's Touch a Truck static display event held on Saturday, May 19 th at Sand Point Park. Kids of all ages got an upclose view of multiple first responder vehicles from all over Brevard County including Titusville Police patrol vehicles.

9 The Titusville Police Community Watch volunteers assisted with traffic control during the 2018 Law Enforcement Memorial Service held at the Police Hall of Fame on Friday, May 8th. The event is held each year during Police Memorial Week and it honors America s fallen law enforcement officers for their service and sacrifice. This event brings hundreds of law enforcement personnel, family and friends to Titusville each year.
