4 Desarrollo de la Economia Mundial 90 % del comercio mundial se transporta en buques a granel, buques tanques o portacontenedores Casi un 90% del transporte maritimo se realiza en portacontenedores El indicador de OECD marca tambien la tendencia de oferta y demanda de transporte Para 2010 el indicador OECD demuestra una recuperacion importante de la economia mundial, especialmente en la zona Asia, donde se concentra el 50% del transporte maritimo mundial 4

5 Desarrollo de la Industria Maritima Mundial El Baltic Dry Index refleja las actividades de buques a granel hasta dwt Se mide la actividad de transporte de minerales, carbon y granos en las 26 rutas principales a nivel mundial Desde mediados y hasta finales de 2008, este indicador colapso en un 95% Aun hoy, este indicador, se encuentra un 80% debajo de su marca en Junio 2008 Razon de esta caida abrupta, en el momento de inicio de la crisis fue la reduccion total en la demanda, teniendo sobre-stockeados los depositos en destino 5

6 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial Actualmente la industria tiene altos y bajos, dependiendo de las necesidades de los consumidores para stockear sus depositos La capacidad de oferta de bodega se incremento en un 13% a una capacidad mundial de 54 mio dwt en contraposicion existe un 1,4 mio dwt de desguace La volatibilidad del mercado de este tipo de buques ( dwt), se demuestra en los cierres de alquiler como ejemplo May usd ,- diario August 5 th - usd ,- diario De todos modos, las expectativas pareceren mas favorables a partir de Agosto 2010, en adelante, por el incremento de la demanda. 6

7 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial El indice Harpex refleja la actividad de buques portacontenedores Su recuperacion esta en linea con el indicador OECD La recuperacion de margenes de contribucion por TEU s por aumento de los fletes oceanicos y la baja de costos, entre otros. Los resultados de 2009 fueron desastrosos para la industria, marcando la mayor crisis de la historia Los 15 tops del mercado mundial sufrieron una reduccion en Volumenes = caida de 12% o 9 mio teus Fletes oceanicos = caida 33% / equiv. a u$s mio La industria perdio alrededor de u$s a mio en

8 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial Como se reflejaron los resultados en 3 diferentes armadores, seleccionados por diferentes volumenes, estructura y proporcion en buques propios y alquilados Conclusiones: Year 2009 Volume base 100 Carrier # Carrier # 2 49 Carrier # 3 13 El armador # 1 tiene una alta participacion de buques propios versus buques alquilados, con altos costos diarios en alquiler por la alta demanda a comienzo de la crisis. De todos modos, el alto volumen multiplicado con las perdidas en TEU -unos de los mas bajos de la industriallevo a una gran perdida durante No obstante, la recuperacion para este armador es mucho mas rapida que para cualquier otro por su tamaño. Volume variation Revenue variation Return on Revenue Result per teu (1%) (28%) (10%) (us$ 158,-) (3%) (43%) (34%) (us$ 138,-) (18%) (38%) (23%) (usd 335,-) Armador # 2 se presenta una situacion similar a la anterior, pero con menos buques propios y con una erosion de flete oceanico excesiva, reflejando un 50% por encima del mercado. Casi a la mitad de su flete oceanico del Se debera ver si se recupera rapido en este momento de recuperacion de la economia mundial. El armador # 3 Tiene y tenia casi en exclusividad buques alquilados, que lo llevo a la segunda posicion en las perdidas por TEU de los TOPS 15. Ahora, este armador tomo provecho de los bajos valores de alquiler diario y duplico su capacidad de espacio en los ultimos 12 meses, mejorando su return on revenues casi 7 veces, pero aun es negativo. 8

Multiples factores de la recuperacion del mercado de portacontenedores Proyeccion de crecimiento de GDP mundial en 4,5% - Alta demanda en los traficos Este-Oeste, especialmente Asia Europa Crecimiento del 11% global en transporte en contenedores a 138 mio teus en 2010 Alto porcentaje del desguace de buques. En 2009 se redujo la capacidad en teus y 2010 se alcanzara teus dando un total de casi 5% de la capacidad mundial. Reduccion de las ordenes de construccion, en cancelaciones o postergaciones de ordenes de entregas hasta 2013 / 2014 balanceando la oferta de espacio, aunque la capacidad mundial refleja un incremento del 15% en 2 años, llegando a 13,82 mio teus. 9

10 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial En 28 traficos mundiales se incorporo la forma de reducir las velocidades de los buques entre un 22/24 nudos, a 14/17 nudos, manteniendo la frecuencia de servicio. Que significa esto? Servicio semanal del Este Europa de 42 dias de viaje, se extendio a 49 dias. Incremento del numero de buques de 6 a 7 barcos 10

14 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial Status al 5 de Agosto el numero de los buques portacontenedores parados, se redujo a 150 o 2% de la capacidad mundial. Es decir, teus Ninguno de los barcos que supera la capacidad de teus esta parado. Solo 22 barcos, con capacidad entre teus estan parados Mas de la mitad de los buques parados, son barcos de mayor edad, construidos antes de 1985, y con alto consumo de combustible. 14

15 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial Implicancias negativas, resultantes de la crisis La construccion de los contenedores se cayo en un 90%, a solo TEU desde 2008 hasta fines ,2 mio TEUS fueron a desguace Entre mediados de 2005 y mediados de 2010 el stock de contenedores versus la capacidad de slot mundial en TEU s descendio de 2,06 teus por slot a 1,72 teus por slot. Esto representa una falta de 2,4 mio teus a fines de 2010 Status Agosto 2010: se redujo la merma mensual de produccion de contenedores nuevos a 50./ teus/mes por debajo de la demanda. 15

16 Desarrollo en la Industria Maritima Mundial Implicancias negativas, resultantes de la crisis Como consecuencia en manos de los exportadores o importadores se quedaran menos tiempo para mejorar la productividad de viajes por año. Costo de los contenedores nuevos, se incremento casi en un 50% En cuanto a la construccion de portaconedores, China paso a Sud Corea. Como todos los astilleros, tambien China esta siguiendo criticamente el desarrollo de cancelaciones y/o postergaciones de las ordenes de barcos, aunque ultimamente se escuchan ordenes de nuevos buques de algunos armadores, aprovechando la reduccion de costos. China esta considerando que, una parte importante de las ordenes de contruccion en sus astilleros sigue en la zona de riesgo de dafaultear, sumando u$s 228bn. 16

17 Conclusiones La economia mundial se esta recuperando, pero aun es fragil La mayor crisis de la historia en la industria maritima, no llevo a consolidaciones ni tampoco a una reduccion significativa de proveedores de servicio de transporte maritimo internacional. Muchos fueron rescatados por los propios acreedores para evitar un efecto dinamo en sus portfolios, inclusive tomando participaciones en los negocios de sus clientes y/o por contribuciones en efectivo por parte de los accionistas (existentes y nuevos) y/o intervenciones gubernamentales. Los fondos internacionales maritimos que embarca muchisimos inversionistas privados (grandes y pequeños) aun estan en una situacion comprometida, buscando capital fresco para mantener el flujo de dinero y cumplir con los contratos preexistentes a la crisis. Basandonos en los resultados publicados, incluyendo el segundo semetre de 2010, pareceria que la industria maritima comienza a recuperarse rapidamente. 17

18 Conclusiones Con la actual mejoria de la economia mundial, los armadores tienen que capitalizar la experiencia de lo sufrido en los ultimos 2 años, consolidando su negocio. Siendo prudentes en costos, prudentes en politica de tarifas, prudentes con el empuje por la participacion en el mercado y prudentes en su programacion de portacontenedores nuevos, manteniendo un balance de oferta y demanda de espacios. Pero algunos armadores siguen tomando el camino de alta expansion de su flota, tomando provecho de los bajos valores de mercado para el alquiler de barcos, siendo agresivos en sus tarifas / politicas de fletes, en lugar de consolidar su negocio sanamente. Aparentemente, algunos aun no han aprendido la leccion de la ultima crisis, que fue la mayor de la historia. Por esto, mucho continuan dependiendo de un flujo de dinero o incorporaciones de nuevos inversores, para sostener su negocio. 18
