Villasis of the Diocese of Kalibo in the Philippines, the weekend of August 19/20. Father s Mission Appeal is seeking our support in providing a comprehensive hospitalization program & pension plan for the retired, elderly and sick priests of the Diocese of Kalibo. You will find an envelope in your bi-monthly packet. Please be as generous as possible. Feast of St. Clare Friday, August 11, is the Feast of St. Clare, the founder of the 2 nd Order of Franciscans. Her story is linked with that of Francis of Assisi whose lifestyle of gospel poverty challenged men and women of his time. Come and celebrate a service in honor of St. Clare and discover how her life of prayer and simplicity can help us embrace our struggle to live our calling. We will gather at 7:30 PM in the church (17 Pompton Ave., Pompton Lakes, NJ); come and celebrate this woman whose mission inspired so many early Franciscans. All are welcome! The Food Pantry is currently looking for a second driver to drive the box truck to pick up food once a month. The hours would be on Friday from approximately 7:30 AM - 1:00 PM. On the other hand, the services we provide within the parish and for the larger community continue year round, as do their associated expenses. Thus, your consistent financial support of our parish is vital to achieving our stewardship mission. The easiest way to be sure that your gift of treasure reaches us, even when you can t be here, is through enrollment in our electronic offertory program: Faith Direct. It is especially appreciated when you donate the requested items! 160 families/462 adults and children receive food from St. Mary s Food Pantry; they deeply appreciate your donations of food, gift cards and cash! Project LINC A program of the Aging Services Department of Catholic Family and Community Services which serves seniors who live in upper Passaic County, taking them to medical and other appointments as needed. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY at St. Mary s Medical Assistance Program We need your skills as an English-Spanish speaker to be a volunteer interpreter for our FREE CLINIC. If you: Are at least 18 years old. Speak English and Spanish fluently. Would like to gain valuable experience and skills working in a professional medical clinic even if you have no medical experience now. VIERNES 11DE AGOSTO: Fiesta de Santa Clara de Asís Hoy, día de santa Clara de Asís ( ), escuchamos un fragmento del Evangelio de Juan en el contexto de la Última Cena, en la que Jesús, despidiéndose de los suyos, a punto de marcharse, apunta una nueva manera de estar unidos a Él. Se va físicamente, pero podemos estar con Él mística y sacramentalmente. El papa Francisco decía comentando este mismo fragmento: Jesús es la Vid, y a través de Él, como la savia en el árbol, pasa a los sarmientos el mismo Amor de Dios, el Espíritu Santo. Es motivado por la lectura de los signos de los tiempos y convocado por los obispos, quienes llaman al pueblo hispano/latino à elevar su voz profética. En el contexto de este diálogo entre los obispos y el pueblo se vive una pastoral de conjunto iluminada por una eclesiología de comunión y una vocación misionera que busca llegar hasta aquellos que se encuentran alejados de la vida y de la visión de la iglesia. El objetivo central del Proceso de Encuentro es discernir la respuesta pastoral de la iglesia hacia la presencia hispana/latina y potenciar la respuesta del pueblo hispano/ latino como iglesia. Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) El propósito primario de RICA es la iniciación de los adultos y niños no bautizados que han llegado a la edad de la razón; sin embargo, el Rito también se extienda a los adultos bautizados pero no catequizados. This comes to about 480 people (adults & children). They live mainly in Pompton Lakes, Wanaque, Haskell, Bloomingdale and Butler. Included in the 480 people are about 185 children under the age of 18, about 38 seniors 65 & older and over 50 singles of all ages. VOLUNTEERS
