Minot is the county seat and largest city located in Ward County with a population of approximately 46,000. With many job opportunities, interesting heritage and a variety things to do, Minot and the Ward County Area are one of the best places to live and visit. Minot has a rather sizeable fossil fuel industry, but there is more going in in the area than just oil and natural gas. Minot may be known for its energy industry, but the town also has robust logistics and agricultural sectors. The region is a big hit among outdoor enthusiasts, and has one of best places to hunt Canada Geese and Snow Geese. Minot is also situated near an abundance of stocked fisheries including Lake Sakakawea, one of America s biggest man-made reservoirs and a walleye-fishing hot spot. The Badlands, just a few hours away from Minot, are rugged, striking geologic formations and a national treasure. This area is also a hot spot for paleontology, with different fossils to discover and learn about. Minot is well-connected to the region with three major highways running through the city: US 2, US 52 and US 83.
