5 photo: Museum Het Schip photo: Museum Het Schip Museum Het Schip Oostzaanstraat WG Amsterdam Museum Het Schip is the architecture and design museum about the Amsterdam School and social housing It is located in the world famous workers palace 'Het Schip' by architect Michel de Klerk in Amsterdam Along the Spaarndammerplantsoen in Amsterdam, three monumental public housing complexes are designed by famous architect Michel de Klerk The most expressionistic block is nicknamed The Ship and belongs to the top of the Amsterdam School architectural movement of the early twentieth century The unconventional building exudes an air of festivity and is a true sculpture of bright orange bricksthe Ship is still inhabited and the museum is located in different parts of the building Every hour a guided tour (often in Dutch) leads around the building, to visit three other parts of the museum Next to Dutch tours there is an English tour at 15h Groups above 10 persons can always make a reservation for an extra guided tour photo: Museum Het Schip 1921 Contractor Michel de Klerk Klaas Hille Eigen Haard dirkverwoerd tue-sun: 11:00-17:00 5

6 photo: Naomi Schiphorst photo: architour Borneo Sporenburg Bridges Panamakade AX Amsterdam Two red steel bridges span the water between the residential islands Sporenburg and Borneo The pedestrian bridge is very high and designed as an architectural walk, taking pedestrians to a height where they have a spectacular view over the surrounding patio houses and also allowing sail boats to access a small marina The lower bridge at the opposite end of the harbour is made for disabled persons, buggies and bikes photo: Matthijs Borghgraef 2000 Landscape architect West 8 Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Amsterdam Naomi 24/7 in public space The nicest way to go to the Eastern Docklands, is to take the boat from the Central Station to the Java-island It leaves from behind the central station, at pier 7 It's a free ride, and takes about 10 min, to the head of the Java-island From there it's about 15 min walking to the KNSM-island and 20 min to Sporenburg and Borneo 6

9 photo: Jeroen Musch photo: Jeroen Musch Mediahaven Amsterdam Moermanskkade BC Amsterdam The design refers to the scale and character of the ports; robust details determine the interior and exterior Concrete, steel and glass make up the palette of materials The flexible 'black box', the essence of the television studio, is the leitmotiv for the architecture of the building With its rough appearance and commanding, beautiful vistas, the western port of Amsterdam is set to transform over the coming years to a vital urban environment with creative companies and institutions The 'Mediahaven' is an important stepping stone to that vision, and is realized to meet the growing demand for television production in Amsterdam The entrance with stairs acts as a red carpet is linked to the atrium This space functions as a foyer during TV recording, and is visible as a beacon from the harbor The foyer can beopened through industrial folding doors 5 meters high and connects the studio with the harbour photo: Jeroen Musch Project is not public! 10 photo: Kruunenberg en photo: Kruunenberg en Canal houses on Java Island Lamongracht / Brantasgracht 1019 RK Amsterdam In this project, both popular tastes and the demand for individualisation were answered by choosing this particular type of housing and commissioning several architects This canal house is designed for co-habitation by two independent households The 'duo-home' has a common living room, kitchen and bathroom and two individual living areas of equal size In order to make the residence suitable for various forms of 'co-habitation' the floors are well connected to each other and yet can be used independently The entry to the house in situated in the side street However, the residents can also gain entry via the garden and reach their own individual living areas without having to pass through the common rooms The living room on the ground floor can be accessed directly from the canal; hence this space is also suitable for other uses The house features outer walls of red brick and wood window frames In the lower level where the common spaces are situated, the casings are finished wit photo: Kruunenberg en Project is not public! 11 photo: Jeroen Musch photo: Jeroen Musch Noorderparkbar Floraparkweg BZ Amsterdam All the materials used to build this tiny coffee bar were bought second-hand at marktplaatsnl, a Dutch ebay type site, from around a hundred individuals and small traders Yet, the pavilion looks brand new The architects and designers of Bureau SLA and Overtreders W not only designed the bar: they also acted as initiators, fund-raisers, traders and builders on the project It was only because of this bottom-up approach that the project was finally carried out, in spite of the financial crisis that has put a brake on the Dutch construction industry The process of creating the bar was in itself somewhat unusual Finding money for the project through a website for crowd-funding, buying the second-hand materials, meant that designing and building took place simultaneously It was impossible to make a final design beforehand, since what's on offer at marktplaatsnl changes continuously photo: Jeroen Musch Floor area/size m² Main designer, Interior architect bureau SLA Overtreders W bureau SLA & Overtreders W SLA Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays from 10am to 8 pm From Amsterdam Central Station take the ferry to Buiksloterweg Walk or cycle to Wingerdweg 185 or 229 Enter the park from here You cannot miss it! 11
