2 CAPTAIN S REPORT The days are definitely getting longer, and the urge to go sailing is upon us. Especially with this earlier change to Daylight Savings Time. Recent events have stoked the fires even more; the LAKE IS FILLING UP, the NOR s (notice of race) are showing up in the s, the Sacramento Boat Show has come and went, and the premier racing event in this immediate area(the Camellia Cup) is less than 3 weeks away at this writing. Edward Threlkeld, myself and some kind individuals from FLYC manned a free booth at the Sacto boat show earlier this month and succeeded in getting seven interested parties to sign up for more information regarding the fleet. It s a small number but its 7 more than last year. Well done Edward. Your fleet board members have been busy checking out restaurants for a location for the Annual Awards Banquet, and I won t steal someone wind by telling you where it s going to be, but it is decided and awaits board final approval. We are thinking/planning ahead. Speaking of ahead-check the schedules carefully as there have been some changes and some slipped text on the events portion of the newsletter that may cause some confusion. The racing schedule will have some additions in June regarding clear lake-so if you re a racer check it out. Your race director/chairman may mention it in his article this month-dave? For some humor check out the new sailing terms article in the back of the latest LATITUDE 38. The issue with the two Americas Cup boats on the cover. This sailor has been teabag d too many times and is guilty of letting his foot cleat get in his mouth cleat while falling on his butt cleat. Now if we could just get rid of the cheese slicers, the snacktician would have an easier time of jibing the jenny downhill. Read the newsletter-lots of love and labor in each issue. See you at the lake soon! Captain Michael C-22 SIRIUS MOST RECENT CRUISE REPORT Thanks to everyone who participated in the First of Spring Cruise. It was really great to to see "SIX" boats and "SEVEN" members come out for our first Folsom Lake cruise of the year despite the long climb (78 steps to the dock) and hazy/cloudy weather. 1st of Spring--One of the six, two of the seven CRUISE REPORT TO: All Fleet 4 Members signed up or tentative for 2010 San Juan's Cruise. I have received a reply from Paul Kniepel at the Bellingham Harbor office to my inquiry regarding the July fishing tournament. He confirms that the big salmon derby is scheduled again this year for July 10th. Since this event will likely cause an overflow parking situation at the marina again, I am pushing our cruise back one week so as to not have to deal with another parking fiasco like we

3 had last year. then you do not need cushions or galley. The new schedule is: Sunday July 11th: Folsom Lake boats haul out and de-rig in preparation for the trip. This group is: Charmed Life, Quiet Time, Akuna Matada, and Slow Dancer. I would like to try and do this as early as possible in the morning, say 07:00, so we are not doing the de-rig in blazing heat. Should sailors who love cruising race? David and I are racing this Saturday. It might be a good idea for you to come out as well, and we can help you tune up. There will be a fee for racing. We think that the TransFolsom which is April 24 is the most fun. It is a pursuit race, where each boat starts at different times and there is a lot of time to catch up and pass boats. it takes up most of a day. Lanette Friday July 16th: Departure for Bellingham. Saturday July 17th: Arrival at Bellingham. Stay at For Calendar of Racing events, check Folsom Lake Yacht Club website: Bellingham Saturday night then departure for Sucia around mid-day Sunday. or contact Dave Strain: mailto:landave@copper.net Return to Bellingham is Thursday July 29, De-rig Thursday afternoon and evening, sleep on the boats in the parking lot and depart for the drive home 05:00 Friday morning July 30. If you drive strait through you can make itto Sacramento by about midnight on Friday night. CLEARLAKE RACE SEE THE LAST PAGE OF THIS NEWSLET TER RBOC, our boating representative to the Legislature, has issued this invitation. Opening Day on the Bay this year is Sunday April 25. I want to remind all of you that the Committee Boat this year is the Hornblower California one of the largest yachts on the Bay. There is special pricing of $65. until April 1st. April 1st and after the price is $75. Included is a continental breakfast and gourmet lunch with a NOTE: Bob and Patty have suggested Cap Sante front seat to the viewing of the decorated boats. A no-host Marine in Anacortes as an alternate to Bellingham. Cap Sante uses a travel lift instead of a ramp, which bar is also available. keeps your trailer out of the salt water. However, this This year for the first time we are opening up the Committee requires raising and dropping your mast in the water, Boat to the public! All your friends and neighbors can come and spend the day on the Bay! I have attached the signup which is not an option for me as my mast-raising system requires the sheet for you to print and fill out. This is also available on the website of course. boat to be on the trailer. Also, Cap Sante charges a Donnapicya@aol.com fee for launching and a daily or weekly fee for See you all there! parking, whereas Bellingham is free parking. If anyone wants to try Anacortes, just let me know and Lanette Strain we can rendezvous at Sucia on Sunday. Re-rigging the boats and getting them back in their slips at Brown's Ravine will be Sunday August 1st. That's assuming the marina is still open and hasn't closed prematurely again due to low water. Larry Quite Time Annual Big Brother/Big Sister Event This popular annual event will be held on June 26, 2010 at Brown s Ravine. For those of you unfamiliar with this event, Club members volunteer to go sailing in the morning and eat Do you need to carry cushions in a Catalina at picnic BBQ lunch afterward. Who could resist this? The BB/BS organization plans outings that their Big/Little pairs 22 when Racing? can attend. RACING REPORT For the past 8 years, Catalina 22 Fleet 4, joined by Folsom It depends: If you are sailing in the cruising class, Lake Yacht Club, has organized a day of water fun for these yes, you need cushions and kitchen (galley) or kids. BB/BS kids are generally from single-parent homes equivalent weight. If you are doing C22 one design, and need a good adult role model and friend. They usually have no experience on boats, and maybe don t even

4 get to play in a lake. This event helps expose them to new experiences while having a great time. This event has been so popular that many participants (kids and skippers alike) have come for many years in a row. The volunteer boats are rigged and ready to go by 9:30 AM, and then the skippers meet at the hilltop picnic area to pick up their kids. By 10:00 everyone should be on the water. Some boats actually sail, but mostly the kids love to gather in an area to shoot water cannons from boat to boat, and go swimming. Returning to shore around 12:30, everyone (boat skippers, too!) get a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the usual picnic foods and drinks that kids need to have fun. The event wraps up with a group photo around 1:30. We usually have about 20 pairs needing a ride, so we need about boats to sign up. We also need volunteers to be at the picnic site to set tables and prepare the food. Please contact event coordinator Karen Preston at (916) to volunteer. Volunteers will receive more details later. And while you are marking this date on your calendar, just block out the whole weekend. The annual Fleet BBQ will be Friday evening at the hilltop picnic area, and the emainder of the weekend will be a Fleet overnight cruise. So you can arrive Friday evening and stay until Sunday, hanging out with friends, eating and drinking, and enjoying the lake.
