1 Newsletter Date Volume 1, Issue 1 June 2011 JUNE CALENDAR: > 6/3 Friday Dock Party > 6/8 Board Meeting > 6/15 General Meeting > 6/24 6/26 Port Ludlow Cruise JUNE BIRTHDAYS: 6/5 Trina Holm 6/6 Marty Martinson 6/7 Penny Braden 6/9 Dawn Lilly 6/9 Judy Martinson 6/11 Mary Adkins 6/12 Robert Murphy 6/12 Bud Sullivan 6/13 Linda Eagen 6/14 Rich Tremaglio 6/15 Brigitte Baker 6/19 Jane Vukonich 6/20 Randy Christensen 6/28 Bill Allen 6/29 Larry O'Keefe 6/29 Paula Spina 6/30 Jan Moberly Commodore s Report - Bill Dils The first thing I want to do is thank Jerry Zitkovich and his crew for the great float they entered in the Opening Day Boat Parade. Chatterbox Falls and Salmon being chased by Orca s. I am sorry I overlooked them at the dinner meeting. Good job and big Thanks to You All! Thank you Pat Hansen for the use of the Midnight Sun as our Officers and Bridge Boat. It looked great. Thank you Pat Hansen and Joyce Carlson for organizing the Opening Day activities and the great chow. A big thank you to Gary Sheneman for the great job The First Dock Friday Now that boating season is underway it is time to find more ways to spend time on and near the water. Fortunately for all of us, we have one of the best places to watch the watery world go by right outside our back door. Imagine raising a glass in salute to the end of the work week while enjoying a freshly grilled burger and the company of some of our best friends. he did emceeing our opening day festivities. Thank you also Gary Sheneman and fellow past Commodores for a wonderful breakfast. Thank you Bill Traver for captaining the Midnight Sun and getting us all out and back in one piece. Thank you Barry Ellingson and Dick Paine for raising our flags. Thanks to Dan and Rochelle Gray and Diana Harris for their help in the galley and anywhere else needed. Thanks to the whole club. I hope I did not forget anyone. I can t believe it is June already, but I am glad to see This is what Dock Friday s is all about. It is an informal way to enjoy the club. Please join us this Friday, June 3, for the kick off the new tradition. Normally Dock Fridays will be a BYOE (bring your own everything) affair, but to get things going we will supply burgers and chips. Feel free to bring an accompaniment, but these are not required. The gang will start gathering the sun shining more often. We had a great time and saw the sun at the Wagon Wheel in Liberty Bay-Thank you Tim and crew for your hard work getting all of us and the boats in the circle. It is almost time for the Vacation Connection and Sue and I are really looking forward to going north. We have not ventured North of Princes Louisa and we are really excited. We hope to see a lot of you enjoying your boating time this summer. Safe boating to you all and may the sun shine on you always! Rear Commodore s Report - David Morton at 5:30 and we will start the BBQ around 6:00. Download the Roster I ve had several requests for an electronic copy of the PSYC Roster. If this has been your wish, then wish no more (though you really need to learn to dream bigger). Just point your browser to the Members section of the PSYC web site ( and click the link.
2 Page 2 June 2011 PUGET SOUND YACHT CLUB Vice Commodore s Report - Peggy Allen > Commodore: Bill Dils ( ) > Vice Commodore: Peggy Allen ( ) > Rear Commodore: David Morton ( ) > Fleet Captain: Michael Thompson ( ) > Secretary: Nancy Morton ( ) > Treasurer: Sharon Moore ( ) > Dockmaster: Peggy Allen ( ) Did you join in the activities on Opening Day? We had it all; dinner on Friday night, breakfast Saturday, Opening Day Ceremony, a decorated boat in the parade and an evening of dining and dancing. Who has more fun than we do? On the last day of April over 20 members volunteered their time to clean up the club and more. To learn more look for the page in this issue devoted to what was accomplished and kudos to those who did it. During the work party the old resin patio furniture made a one-way trip to the transfer station. That furniture has been replaced with three new tables with umbrellas and twelve chairs. That new furniture is waiting for you to come down and enjoy the dock. The side show on the boat ramp is an added bonus! It s your dock, come enjoy it! We have been talking for awhile about sprucing up the upstairs. A grass roots committee has formed to see what is possible. These creative people: Rochelle Gray, Marcia Ellingson, and Jodie Paine are putting their creative minds heads together to come up with solutions to make this great space more appealing. I am so excited to hear their ideas! The webcam has not been functional in awhile. There have been attempts to replace it. It s not as easy as you would think. We are looking for fresh brain cells and the will to overcome technical challenges. Please contact me if you are willing to help. If webcams aren t your thing the mechanism on the awning on the back patio needs some attention. If you would like to help please let me know. Have a wonderful June. Summer isn t far away.. July 5 th is sooner than you think! > Facilities Manager: Mike Thompson ( ) > Facilities Rental: Pat Hansen ( ) > Membership Chairs: Judy Quick & Trina Holm ( ) > Sunshine Reporter: Cindy Josephson ( ) > Galley Chair: Linda Eagan ( ) > Website Managers: David Morton & Bob Quick & Kal Harris ( ) > Sound Waves Editor: Susie Barrett ( ) Fleet Captain Report - Mike Thompson Boy Oh Boy, now that was a fun weekend in Poulsbo for the wagon wheel. We had 25 boats and a lot of fun. I would like to thank Tim Dies, David Morton for hosting the event and a lot of support from many others. We had great weather for Thursday, Friday and most of Saturday but Sunday was a bit iffy. I brought my mom to Poulsbo for the first time on my boat and she stayed for the weekend. She had a great time and said we have a great group of people and could see that we all get allot very well. My mom really liked the appetizers on the swim step by dingy. Let s keep in mind that we have another cruise this weekend for Memorial Day to Tacoma. Bob & Judy Quick are putting it on so I hope that allot of people show up. I was told that 16 boats were going so I hope you all have made your reservations already. Mark Adams and, of course, Neil Krueger are putting on the Port Ludlow golf cruise. I was told you can come even if you don't golf. You do need reservations by June 10th. Last but not least we need to make reservations for the Vacation Connections by the first week in June. The dates for the cruise are July in Port Townsend. You need to me ASAP as we have 16 boats now and the time is running out. I will send out an of all of the people that have signed up in a couple of days.
