Please know our prayers are with you Terry, Marilyn and all the Lappin family during this time. The GHYC Annual Dinner meeting was held on November 4 th with 144 members in attendance, capacity for the club during the construction project. It was great to be back to see all of our Gulf Harbour friends. Sheri and Judi did a wonderful job with a Thanksgiving theme and the menu was exceptional. Thank you to Chef Scott and staff for a great evening. Remember to get your reservations in early for the Commodores Ball Saturday December 6 th titled, The Jingle Bell Rock featuring the band The Chicago Mob. It is exciting times at Gulf Harbour with the near completion of the Club House renovation and the beginning of the Marina project. With an aggressive completion date of January 15, 2015 we are all anxious to see the final product and to enjoy the Marina facility this season. Thank you to all of the Marina Board for all of their hard work in making this a reality. The Yacht Club Board is putting the final touches on the 2015 budget. The fact of increasing costs of operation and more member activities is the focus. The GHYC is in great financial condition and the Board wants to continue in this tradition. Forty Members attended the November Boaters Night held at the Paramount Social Room. Signups began for the South Sea s Extended Cruise, January 20-23, 2015 led by the Zachars and the Snyders; catchetori@aol.com. Next was the Ft. Myers Art Fest, February 6-8, 2015 hosted by Bill and Melanie Jackman; melaniejackman@comcast.net. These are very popular destinations and will fill up fast. You can sign up on line directly to the cruise leaders. November is the time of year to give thanks for the people we love, the freedom and liberty we have, and the beauty of our environment. 2 Lunch Bunch Cruises Extended Cruises 2014 schedule: Cruise Leaders 2014 schedule: Cruise Leaders Dec 10 Light House Joneses (D&R) Dec Pink Shell Hendricks Women s Book Club by Ann Barney The Gulf Harbour Book Club met in the Member's Dining Room in the Club House on Wednesday, November 7, to review our selected book,"the Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd. The review and discussion were very interesting and the book was enjoyed by all. We had 25 member at the gathering. It was especially nice for us to be back together again. We made the following selections: December 3 - The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty January 7 - Goldfinch by Donna Tartt We are not going to have a cookie exchange at our December meeting. The Gulf Harbour Book Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the members dining room in the Club House. All Gulf Harbour members are welcome. If you would like more information regarding the book club, please contact Ann Barney at anbil1@comcast.net. The Goldfinch is a rather long book so you might want to get a start on it soon.. Happy reading. Ann Barney Social Committee by Sheri Miller French & Judi Hughes The Gulf Harbour Yacht Club met on November 4th for its monthly dinner meeting in the newly renovated Clubhouse. We had a large turnout of members and enjoyed a Thanksgiving style buffet with all the trimmings and desserts prepared by Chef Scott. Table decorations were in keeping with the holiday theme--cornicopias, orange ribbons, pumpkins and leaves. Vice-Commodore Gary Morgan presided over the meeting. Members were given updates on upcoming cruises and the proposed slate of officers was voted on and accepted by the membership. Our Commodore's Ball will be held on December 6th. This is the first Saturday in December, so mark your calendars and check your s for announcements and updates on this upcoming event! Please note that the Commodore's Ball has "reserved seating" for a "sit down dinner". Tables of 8 can be made when making your reservations. See you in December! Page 2

5 Gulf Harbour Fishing Club by Chip Graddy On a Friday in mid-october Phil Fischler and I trailered his 22 foot Pathfinder bay boat down to Chokoloskee in the 10,000 Islands area south of Marco Island. Two of Phil s friends joined us and they fished out of a 17 foot Action Craft flats boat. One of these guys knows the 10,000 Islands area like the back of his hand which is critical to fishing these ultra-shallow waters loaded with oyster bars. What a weekend! We fished hard both Saturday and Sunday. Phil was a great host for the weekend and made all the arrangements for a stilt house at Glades Haven. The house was plenty comfortable for four guys serious about fishing. Up at 5 am each day, we were on the water each morning as the sun started to rise. The natural beauty of this part of SWFL is very special no houses, condos or hotels anywhere, not even many boats. Just lots of mangroves and oyster bars and most importantly TONS of fish. We caught lots of Redfish like the one I am holding in this photo. One of Phil's buddies caught this giant Red. Between the four of us we probably caught 40 Reds and 20 Snook over the two days. We fished with both live bait (Pilchards and Threadfin Herring) and artificials. Also in October, club members John Hess and Ken Olson had nice catches offshore with Terry Carlson. John is holding a very nice Cobia and Ken a keeper Grouper. The Gulf Harbour Fishing Club meets the first Thursday of the month (November through April) from 5-6 pm in the Men's Golf Locker Room. Dues are $50 for the season (per couple). 9 Pink Shell Cruise by Barb Hendricks There are a few boat slips still available for the Pink Shell Ft. Myers Beach cruise Friday December the 12th to the 14th. I am also taking reservations for the Friday night Sunset Cruise on the Pirate ship and Saturday night dinner at Parrott Key. South Seas Cruise by Lynda Zachar Please join the Snyders and Zachars for the "Island Time at South Seas" cruise Tuesday, January 20 - Friday, January 23. Events will include a welcome cocktail party, bocce ball games, a Marine Max Cocktail party, a farewell dinner, and a finale breakfast. There will be plenty of "on your own" time to enjoy the beautiful South Seas Plantation resort. Dockage will be limited. We are anticipating that a dockage wait list will be started after the first 25 boats. Sign-up began at the November 13 Boaters Night Meeting. A non-refundable deposit of $100 per person must accompany your registration. The total cost per person is estimated to be $175. Myer Art Fest Cruise by Melanie Jackman Please join the Jackmans for the Fort Myers Art Fest cruise Friday thru Sunday, February 6-8. Events will include a Friday night pot luck dinner, strolling through the Art Festival, and a Saturday night group dinner at the French Connection. We will be doing sign-up like we have for the past few years. Cruisers should contact Brian, Ft. Myers Basin Dock Master, directly at (239) to make slip reservations. Those who want to join the pot luck dinner and/or the French Connection dinner via cars should me at (melaniejackman@comcast.net). No deposit is required because boaters will pay Brian directly for their slips and the dinner at the French Connection will be separate checks. This has always been a fun cruise.
