For me it was unforgettable scene from the Summer of Peter and I had a wonderful summer, hope you did too. Club events started with the Port Browning Cruise at the beginning of July and Telegraph Harbour followed in mid-summer. Both are featured in this summer edition of Kicker Kapers. You ll have to wait until September s KK to see the stories and the pictures from Maple Bay. The picture below is a terrific shot from the Bocce Field at Port Browning. Team Red (on the left) looks very intently at their last throw while Team Blue (on the right) looks much more relaxed. Is Team Blue winning? Sorry I didn t get the score. Sun hats and sun glasses all round, I can almost feel the warmth of a July day in the Gulf Islands. 2 Club & Cruise News Canada Day Sports Cruise Port Browning July 1-3 By Commodore Jan Ward We had a great Canada Day cruise to Port Browning. The Marina managed to fit us all at the docks in one area. Thanks to Roger for straightening out the reservation mix-up for us. (And while organizing a family wedding!) A big thanks to Vern Little for organizing all the games. Note from Vern and Julie: Thanks to Jan Ward for organizing the pizza dinner on Saturday night. Vern retrieves a Frisbee from the rough. Bocce is a serious game! Vern organized a very challenging Frisbee Golf course for us by ordering up a strong wind that liked to take the Frisbees and flip them around. We played Bocce too, and Vern made us stick to official Bocce rules. Well, we did when he was looking :-). Vern and his lovely assistant Julie had a fun shopping spree for some great prizes. There was one for every sports participant. Thank you goes to Alice & Art Kool for their generous donation towards the gifts. Our new members John & Tamara joined us for the cruise, and fit right in. Karen & Gary Brown had a couple of guests, whom they are encouraging to purchase a boat and join the club. We had our coffee goodies thanks to Al and Maureen Vandenberg. Their plans got changed with surprise visit from out of town family. The weather held for us over the weekend. Even the wind held off on Sunday until late afternoon. 2 We found our Frisbees! The games were followed by prizes many prizes! Thanks to the Kools for their generous donation.

3 Midsummer Cruise Telegraph Harbour July 29 - Aug 1 By Fleet Captain Roger Hind Well, the August long weekend cruise to Telegraph Harbour started out a little rough. For those arriving Friday, there were wind speeds of 25 knots and large waves. But Saturday was super, with light winds and minimal seas, for those arriving. A good cross section of the club arrived by Saturday and we had 16 boats in total. The photos to the left and above show how Saturday s blind dinghy race progressed from orderly into pure fun. Mike Dalzell officiated with his trusty assistant. There were some hilarious moments with the blind dinghy racing, water canons and judge ramming - all on this first day of events. It was followed by a lovely evening with potluck supper and prizes. Concentration at the horseshoe pitch. Made in the shade! 3

4 Prizes for the winners of Sunday s games. On Sunday morning the coffee pot was well attended (thanks Bonny and Don) and there were morning walks. Later on there were competitions at the horseshoe pit, shuffle board and bocce field, again with prizes. Many thanks to Jim and Chris McNeil for their coordination of both day's events. Interestingly, everyone had cloves at the potlucks and there was no casualties due to hornets this Blind Dingy Race winners. year. 5 Sittin by the dock of the bay, I ll be sittin when the evenin comes. No wasps, fun games and good company - Telegraph Harbour was a terrific cruise. Thanks volunteers! Area Events Victoria Classic Boat Show Victoria s Classic Boat Show is happening Sept. 2nd to 4th in the Inner Harbour. It s always fun with lots of beautiful boats to admire. Thanks to Jim McNeil for the reminder about this local boating event. John Hill: G&T on Godfather at Beaumont Park. Lovely! Member s Corner Mike & Wanda Dalzell: While enjoying a glass at happy hour in Montague harbour we saw this pink swan. There may have been something in the Gin! Pictures from Your Summer Vacation! Nancy & Gerry Trueman: We were at Beaumont Harbour with Pauline and Dave Critchley when they took the first run on their new dinghy. Had a race to Port Browning! 5
