1 Editor: Mick Marhevka Issue: December 2004 Published By: Chris Champion New! Day Trip Schedule DATE DESTINATION TRIP LEADER REMARKS Jan 15 Pinchot State Park Peter Oswald Jan 29 Crystal Lake Bernie Webber Lessons/rental available Feb 05 Nolde State Forest Bill Pickering Feb 12 Laurel Highlands Dave A Nancy Leroy Lessons/rental available Feb 26 Crystal Lake Rick Close Lessons/rental available To join one of these trips call the listed leader for meeting time and location. Note: the leader will "Go for the Snow". Wherever the snow is expected to be best the day of the trip will be the actual destination, not necessarily the destination on the "Marquee". Be sure to contact your leader a few days before the date so they know who is going and can let you know meeting time, place and carpool possibilities. From Prez Rick: Please note the updated Season Calendar with the Day Trips added to help you ease your trip planning workload. By now, most of the leaves are down, the days are getting shorter, and the cold winds are blowin' from the North. We all know this means our seasonal snows are just around the corner. It's time to check your gear and scrape the summer wax off those skinny boards. To celebrate the upcoming season, Dave and Nancy are hosting our Christmas Party at their warm house. Please stop by to share some holiday cheer and fellowship. Our skilled Webmaster, Beth, has completed our web updates, so go ahead and check it out at The site contains a ton of useful info about our club. New for this year is a forum that will enable members to connect with one another. We will provide more details about the features in a later newsletter. It is my understanding the New Year's trip is filled and other trips are filling fast. If you haven't already done so, please get your trip deposits in as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Christmas party and on the trails.
2 Christmas Party - Come One, Come All! Dave LeRoy and Nancy Kauhl will host the annual Kick and Glider Christmas Party again this year. It will be held at their home on 3722 Old Township Road (Their new house is a long ways from completion). Historically, this has been a popular event with a large number of club members gathering around the fire and consuming an interesting variety of seasonal goodies. The party will start at on Wednesday, December 22, Guests are asked to bring a small item (food or drink) to share - a six-pack, some wine, and your favorite snack or finger food. To get to 3722 Old Township Road from the north, take Progress Avenue south past US22 and Union Deposit Road and look for Green Hill Road near Scottsdale Apartments. Turn left on Green Hill Road, turn right at the T and the house will soon appear on your left. From the south (Deny Street) take Paxtang Avenue north to Simpson Street. Go right on Simpson Street one block, go left for one block and turn right onto Old Township Road. The second house on the left is Dave and Nancy's. Distant Ski Trips fill up Fast! Would you believe that the most distant ski trips, and Craftsbury, Vermont are sold out! And the trip to Pulaski, New York, in the heart of the Lake Ontario lake effect, is full and overflowing. Fortunately, several other trips are still available. One, which is filling up fast, is the trip to Inlet, New York, where we stay in stylish condos and spend 3 days skiing in the Adirondack wilderness. The bestkept secret is the trip where the skiing is spectacular and the accommodations are in a spacious house, near downtown, which features a hot tub and fireplace - and the trip is four days long! You may note that the trip to the B&B in Turin will occur on Presidents Day weekend this year, so you can enjoy Tug Hill skiing without using any of those precious vacation days. Our trip to Lapland Lake avoids the expense of staying at the ski touring center by staying at a nearby motel. This is a new trip, which should be a lot of fun. Local trips with space left are those going to Crystal Lake and Laurel Highlands. These trips are inexpensive and involve a minimum of driving. See your Season Guide for more details about each of these trips. Crystal Lake Trail Pass Fee Reductions Your day trips to Crystal Lake this season will cost you only $5.00 per day thanks to the continuation of our Trip Subsidy Program. The rules are simple: Plan your trip to Crystal Lake any snowy day during the season. Pack your skis. Take your Membership Card. Arrive at the Ski Center Office. Say to the desk attendant, "Great day to ski, ehh? My name is (Use your name). I'm a Kick 'n Gliders member, here is my membership card."you can expect to not pay the listed Day Pass cost of $10.00 Weekdays or $15.00 Weekends. You can hand over a new $5.00 bill and be on your way. Your membership card will be attached to the new "People with Whom You Please look for it, detach and use it for savings at Crystal Lake. Ski".
