It s been a great year so far with events like the Nation of Patriots at Battleship Cove, Iron Adventure Run in Maine, our 18th annual lobster roll run to Red s Eats in Maine, plus our annual chapter BBQ. Then a handful of us attended Harley s 115th celebration in Milwaukee by way of Canada. These are just a few of the many highlights that our members have to enjoy. The road captains and activities members put a lot of time planning routes and making arrangements to make every event a great and memorable time. We had an activities meeting on October 4th to plan our winter activities. We may slow down on our riding schedule, but we still stay active. There is something for everyone from breakfasts, to dinners, to movie and game nights, to bowling, and billiards, and even possibly some indoor carting! Can you believe that our 25th annual Christmas is for Kids charity ride is already next month? We have already talked to the organization, the ride is planned, as well as food, and the press release has been submitted. This is our one big ride of the year and it would be great to see Blackstone members come out in full force! We can always use some help, whether it is at Precision helping with registration, parking bikes, or serving food to our guests at the Elks. Please, if you can help out, see any one of the officers and let them know, since many hands make light work. Let s hope Mother Nature is in a good mood this year and provides us some favorable weather, as this is a rain or shine event. 2 Head HOG (continued) I m almost at the end of my ramblings for the month our annual Christmas Party is being held at the Elks this year. We have the caterer, the music, the room, all we need is YOU! There will be a live band taking care of the music for a night of dancing. Tickets are available now, just $20 / pp. Just a reminder that renewals for next year s membership start in October and our friendly neighborhood Membership Officer will have your renewal form at the next meeting. Looking forward to seeing you on the road. Still lots of nice rides coming up. What could be better than riding in New England in Autumn? 3 Deputy HOG While everyone is coming back from summer vacation, we still have a lot of riding left to do this year! We have many rides that will take us through prime leaf peeping areas- Apple Pie Festival in Dummerston VT, Mountain Barn in Princeton MA, and Bub's BBQ in Sunderland MA just to name a few. These rides have become staples on our calendar. There are still some mystery rides out there to keep you all guessing too. The committee is already planning for next year's Iron Adventure Rally. It is back at Okemo in Ludlow VT with earlier dates: July 18-20th. I will keep you updated as information starts to become available on lodging and activities. The committee doesn't meet until November so nothing is available yet (although there is some info to help keep you updated on page 7!!). If you haven't done so already, be sure to keep November 4th available. That is our 25th annual Christmas is for Kids ride. We had an awesome turn-out last year and are hoping for the same or better this year. We will need everyone's help to make this a success. I've seen folks posting kudos about all the rides we had this summer. Take few minutes and write about one of the rides. This is your newsletter and we welcome contributions about any of the rides from our members. And don't worry if you think you aren't a good writer - Kathy makes everything look good! 5 The Road to Milwaukee an extra special contribution By Diane Cabral miles, 10 states, Niagara Falls, 4 Great Lakes, 1 ferry ride, and 2 countries that only tells part of the story of our Milwaukee journey. This is the longest journey I have taken in one trip so far and it was amazing. We left on Saturday morning to arrive in Milwaukee on Wednesday. We traveled a lot of highway miles to keep the pace toward the 115 th Anniversary. There were also many miles of country-side both in the U.S. and Canada. Our first day ended on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Some of our group opted to walk down to the Falls at night to see the lights and fireworks. The second day we continued into Ontario toward Tobermory with its cool little village, great brewery pub, and tourist shops. The ferry from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island was peaceful and the views (even in the fog) were majestic. The miles along Lake Huron and Lake Michigan were beautiful. You don t really appreciate how great these lakes are until you are riding beside them. We rode over the Mackinac Bridge twice. This bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere with 7,400 feet of roadway suspended in the air over the straits of Mackinac. The middle lanes of the bridge are grated so you can see down to the water below. Some people didn t like riding on the grates, but I thought it was cool. When we landed in Green Bay Wisconsin, we stayed at a Best Western next door to Lambeau Field. We couldn t do much walking around however because we were hit with a torrential downpour no less than 10 minutes after we arrived. Any later and we would not have reached the hotel as the street out front was totally flooded. But Blackstone always makes the best of things: Sports Bar in the hotel had buy 1 get 1 drink specials and ½ price appetizers! We stayed dry indoors and had a great night relaxing. Our time in Milwaukee flew by. The 115 th Anniversary rally was an event-based rally, so we were riding to different location for all the happenings. Every dealer had vendors, sales, music & food. All the people we met were friendly and helpful. The Museum also had activities every day and they had all the 2019 bikes lined up for everyone to see. One day we were visiting the Museum and there were hundreds and hundreds of parked bikes lining the bridge on the road leading to the Museum. They closed the bridge to all other traffic. What other city does that?!? The parade at the end of the rally was filled with people from all corners of the globe- Indonesia, Sweden, Scotland, Mexico, China and the US of course, just to name a few. It is amazing to see the comradery among Harley owners. And again, more friendly people of Milwaukee that loved having us there. All in all, it was a great experience that I was able to share with a great group of people. I can t wait for the next road trip.

Editor s Note: As you may have noticed, we skipped having a newsletter for September (or at least I HOPE you noticed and missed my scintillating newsletter). I apologize for not being able to get to it, I just had way too much going on both at work and at home. But I m back now. It also means that I was not able to get out on almost any rides since August (gasp!!!). Henri and I have missed everyone. I m stealing some pictures and stuff from our Face Book page and website, but this is why I need to count on others to send me some things too. When I can t get out there, I need YOU to be my eyes and ears!! The newsletter shouldn't be full of just MY thoughts and pictures, we want it to be everyone s newsletter. As Diane said, if you can post it on Face Book, why not also shoot a quick about the day to newsletter@bvhog.com? I really only need a few sentences. I thank her for the compliment, but really, if you don t feel you write well or are shy about that, I can pretty it up, I promise! And don t forget to upload your pictures to the website too, it s wicked easy, honest! So anyway, on we go... Nation of Patriots It is always such an honor to be chosen by HOG to participate in this event honoring our veterans past, present, and future. It is always a deeply humbling day. This year we brought the flag back to the place we started out on the very first time we had the honor, Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA
