We had some fantastic rides in the past month despite the unfriendly heat and we have also had some "newbie" Chapter riders, thanks for joining us and hope to see more of you guys & girls. The HOG Chapter will be sponsoring a Riding Academy candidate in one of Wilkins upcoming riding course, we wish them the very best, as well as looking forward to sharing the roads and events with us. We have a full schedule of rides on the books right through into October, hope to have many of you join us. There is one ride I would like to point out and that is Sunday August 12th over to Rousses Point NY where the Chapter riders will meet up with Myron Degenhardt (one of our Chapter s original members) then have him join us across some roads in his neck of the woods. The ride details will be posted on our Facebook page, through s to members and on Wilkins Event page calendar which can found on their website. Last minute rides put together, rides that were cancelled, basically a little bit of everything. August is coming up with some fun and enjoyable rides planned. Chapter #5218 Page 3 July 10th Social July 15th Co-Chapter Tracy Road Ride led by Ben Drury We had a brief meeting at Wilkins followed by our annual ride to The Pump and Pantry for creemees! Director Joel DeLary welcomed us to the July social and we pledged allegiance to the flag. We were reminded that the Iron Adventure Run, scheduled to take place at Newry, ME is coming up soon- August 2-5. Mark Frano, Customer Experience Manager for Wilkins, told us that the Central Vermont HOG Chapter has the opportunity to grant a scholarship to a wannabe rider to be in one of the Riding Academy courses this summer. Applicants need to describe why they want to learn to ride and why they need the assistance of a scholarship to do so. The members present at the social decided to have a cutoff date of July 22nd for applications, which should be submitted through our Chapter website under the Contact tab. Mark reminded us of the Dyno Shoot Out to be taking place at Wilkins on July 28th. The Camp TaKumTa Benefit Ride will be on July 14th. Member Kim Drury is collecting donations for this great program that benefits children being treated for cancer in Vermont hospitals. After the door prizes were given out, we all saddled up and rode to The Pump and Pantry in Williamstown for creemees and some of us went all out and had a size medium! Chapter #5218 Page 4 LADIES OF HARLEY REPORT We have the opportunity to participate in a really important ride: From the Annual Ladies Ride for Breast Cancer Facebook Event. Save the date!! September 22, 2018!!! We invite all Lady Riders to join us, and invite all men and their passengers to join Wilkins, in representing the national FOR YOU WE RIDE event. We'll all ride together as a group in support of the fight against breast cancer and in support of our beneficiary, a woman (or man) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and needs our help. Details coming soon but plan to join us for a nationwide roar against breast cancer on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22,2018. KICKSTANDS UP AT 11AM! As always, all riders are welcome on LOH rides! Holly Ashe Ladies of Harley Officer 2018 Calendar for the rest of the year Wilkins events, Chapter #5218 events, Co-Chapter (#5218 and #2433) events August Saturday, August 11 th Toy Run After-Party at Wilkins for participants in the Toy Run event only. Sunday August 12 th Myron s Ride --Depart Richmond Mobil 9:30 Sharp!!! Traveling Rte's 117, 289, & 2 through the Islands. Meet up with Myron at Irving gas station in Alburg approx. 11:00 a.m. Depart gas station 11:15, travel through Rousse s Point to Rt 9, then N. Star Rd. to Rt 11 stopping for lunch at Filons. After lunch travel Rt 11 west to Rt 374 through Lyon Mt, Dannemora, Plattsburgh and onto Rt22 N. to Beekmantown Rt 456. Stop at Mobil gas to top off. Rt 9 N. to 25 towards Lake Champlain North onto Lake Shore Rd Rt 9B back to Rousses Point Rec. Center parking lot where the ride will end. At this point riders can decide how they wish to return to VT. Expect approx. 300 mile ride. (Rain date is August 19 th ) Chapter Social Tuesday, August 14 th at Wilkins starting at 6:30 p.m. Our annual Corn Boil! This is a potluck dinner event so bring something to share and be ready to get your fill of corn on the cob! Saturday, August 18 th Co-chapter HOG Roast with Champlain Valley HOG Chapter The cost for this is $15 per person for all-youcan-eat pork, chicken, salads, corn on the cob etcetera. Food will be served at 2 pm at Lisa and Todd Poole s home at 226 Little Chicago Rd in Ferrisburgh, Vt. There will be a ride prior to the cookout. Details to follow. This is a rain or shine event because the Pooles have plenty of space under cover. An RSVP is needed so plans can be made and adequate food will be available. Saturday, August 25 th Wicky s Ride or "Some Roads you may not have been on before Road Captain Mark Perry. Meet at WHD 8:30 AM, Tanks full, bladders empty. KSU 9:00 AM for A FULL DAY, ALL DAY ride taking us to some southern routes and roads that until recently I hadn t been on (Courtesy of Rd. Captain Rick Boutin - I stole his ride, lol!)leaving Wilkins, up Middle Road to Westerville Rd to Rt 110 into Chelsea. Turning left onto Rt 113 to Thetford Ctr and then right onto Tucker Hill Road, down to Rt 132 into Sharon. Right onto 14 a short distance, left across the bridge onto Howe Hill Rd, follow to Pomfret/Woodstock. Take Rt 12 South to Hartland Four Corners, Brownsville Road to Rt 44. Stopping here at The Villager Ice Cream Restaurant for lunch - approx 1 hour). Continue on RT 106 South to Rt 10 West then turn onto Rt 103 South. Continue to Rt 11 Church St to RT 11 West. Follow Rt 11 West to Rt 30 North. Continue up through DorsetPawlet, Poltney, Bomosen and Sudbury into Brandon, RT 73 East to Rochester. At Rochester some may wish to go up RT 100 N to Waterbury and points north; others may wish to go over Bethel Mountain Road to Randolph/Bethel and onto either RT 12 or RT 14 or I89 to get home. I ll be sure that someone is there to lead either direction. Total round trip from Wilkins roundtrip is estimated to be 250 miles and a total of hours depending on group size.
