The flush toilet was invented by John Harrington in 1596 but, Thomas Crapper did improve on the toilet inventing the floating ball cock found at the bottom of the water tank.

Whenever someone used the toilet, they saw the name Crapper and the name stuck- be careful of what you put your name on.

Dispelled was the myth that Thomas Crapper ( ) was the inventor of the toilet. The flush toilet was invented by John Harrington in 1596 but, Thomas Crapper did improve on the toilet inventing the floating ball cock found at the bottom of the water tank. Thomas Crapper produced plumbing supplies, one being the toilet which he prominently placed his name. Whenever someone used the toilet, they saw the name Crapper and the name stuck- be careful of what you put your name on. Butte County Mosquito Abatement Department gave our second presentation with a talk on West Nile Virus and the roll wastewater plant have in keeping mosquitoes down. There are more than 50 species of mosquitoes in California and they can hatch in a week or less, in as little as a halfinch of water. West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne disease that can cause encephalitis, a brain inflammation. 4 NSVS News Cont. Michael Miller from the State Department of Water Resources gave the third talk on the States water project. Many of us have long believed that North State water was all being sent to Southern California. Well, that is a myth. Most of the Water Project water goes to the San Joaquin Delta to prevent salinity from moving upstreamsee page 6 for more myths. Michael gave a very interesting talk on how California manages it s water with our Oroville lake being a part of it. More info is included on page nine. Bud Bolt (real name) gave the last presentation with a talk on the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl doesn t seem to have much to do with wastewater but, we deal in environmental protection and the Dust Bowl was and environmental disaster that Bud lived through. The Bolt Tool Museum is a great place, every tool has a story and you will find them very interesting. Goggle the Bolt Tool Museum and find out more this interesting museum and Bud Bolt or visit the museum-soon! As bud would say, before he become dead bolt.
