President s Message: Attention all current Board members: Immediately following our scheduled luncheon on July 17, 2016 for Sunday Brunch at Spanish Trail Country Club we will hold our Board Meeting in the Board Room to discuss updating our Las Vegas Section s Constitution and Bylaws. For those members, who went on the Tonopah trip in June, please bring the flag you received to the next club event you attend. With all the rain Las Vegas experienced the day prior to and into Saturday night, most of us were a little more than uncertain if our Sunday picnic would take place. Thankfully the skies cleared just in time, making for a great day! Thirty five members (and a few cute puppies) enjoyed socializing, getting acquainted, enjoying delicious food, and a fun car contest put together by our Vice President and Editor, Brigitte Sutherly. Our members outdid themselves with the time and effort they put into all their wonderful dishes to share. Bob Hellriegel graciously volunteered and did a great job at the grill. Thank you Bob! Last but not least I would like to thank everyone for everything you did to make our picnic such a success. Sara Aguinaga Tonopah trip June11/12 revisited. Photos on page 7. Members left Love s Travel Stop, Interstate 15N, on June 11, at 9:45AM. Paul Kruger lead the group consisting of members, Barbara Cameron and companion Edith, Barbara and Charles Benson, Benedicte and Louis Martin, Karen and Bob Farris. The Pharanagat National Wildlife Refuge was the first stop along the way. The little black bug was interested the guys, it had very long legs and was on the go, checking every ones shoes on the way. The next stop was the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel. At the Restaurant the A'Le'Inn Burger was offered and ordered. At first the Members of the Mercedes Benz Club were mistaken for the Model A Club members, who arrived later. It was a good stop. A Motel is located next to the Restaurant in case one wants to spend a night there, looking for UFOs. Then onto Tonopah, a revived old miner town, and home of the famous Mitzpah Hotel. On the way we got caught up with rain, thunder and lightning, some Photos show how clouded the mountain range was. Arrived in Tonopah in the midafternoon; everyone checked in to their Hotel and it was decided to meet at the Tonopah Brewery for dinner later that evening. The Barbecue was great and local Beer was sampled. After dinner the group went to enjoy the live entertainment at the Mizpah Hotel. The next morning after breakfast, farewells and back to Las Vegas, this time via Route 95. A great MBClub outing again. Barbara Benson

6 Visit to the Sanders Winery in Pahrump, revisited: Saturday, May 31,2016 the event for the MBCA Las Vegas Section was to visit the Sanders Winery in Pahrump one again. Our secretary Beatrice Werner made the arrangements with Mr. Sanders for the wine tasting part of the evening. The first stop was the Miguel s Honey Trailer. It is already tradition for us to stop and purchase real honey, dried fruit, and olives. Then some of the members, who would spent the night in Pahrump, drove on their hotels to check in. Meeting point at 5pm was the wine tasting room at the winery. Mr. Sandler greeted the MB members and gave a report on the wine making. 5 different wines could be tasted. Then to the next part of the evening. The theme for the open air concert was: an evening with Johnny Cash. At around 9:30PM the evening ended but not after meeting and talking to Johnny Cash and his entourage to let them know what a time everyone had.

7 Tonopah trip on June 11/12 revisited

9 September 17, 2016 : a trip to Laughlin with a Jet boat ride to the London Bridge in Lake Havasu is planned. Ride the mighty Colorado! This 6 hour ride brings you to Lake Havasu, 2 hours down, 2 hours for lunch and a walk on the London Bridge, which was brought over from London brick by brick, and 2 hours back. The members can spend the night before and after the ride in Laughlin. There will be a block of rooms reserved for the Club members on Sept. 16. at a rate of $85.12 at the Golden Nugget which is adjacent to the Pioneer Hotel where the boat ramp is located. In order to get this good rate, we need to have 10 rooms. Just a hop through the parking lot. Meeting point will be Golden Nugget Lobby and walk together to the Kiosk. The Cost is $ 70.00pp for the ride. Please make out check to MBCA Las Vegas Section and send to Brigitte Sutherly, 2336 Neutron Star Street, Henderson, NV no later than September 1,2016. 10 Mercedes Creates World s First Plug-In Hydrogen Fuel Mercedes, long a pioneer in experimenting with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, plans to release the first plug-in fuel cell car next year. The Mercedes GLC F-Cell will be the company s first production fuel cell vehicle. The car s fuel cell, which fits entirely in the engine compartment, uses hydrogen to produce the electricity that powers the car s two-wheel drive train, according to Car and Driver. In addition to hydrogen fuel, the engine would also be supplemented with an onboard, 35 kw battery pack that can be recharged simply by plugging it in. The battery pack and fuel cell would give the car a range of approximately 310 miles, according to the company s website. The GLC F-Cell would be the first production vehicle to combine these two green technologies, effectively breaking the long streak of technological limitations. The hydrogen would be stored in two tanks located underneath the car. Mercedes says that refueling the tanks from empty would take around three minutes. The car and, by extension, all fuel cell vehicles would produce nothing except water vapor. Vehicles powered by hydrogen have long been a small niche within the automobile market. Several companies, such as Honda and Toyota, have experimented with the technology, but the current market hasn t seen an influx of interest in fuel cell vehicles.
