1 Placentia Founders Society 136 Palm Circle Placentia, CA Albert S Bradford Needs Your Help The Placentia Founders Society can look back on many successful activities. These activities have generated interest and income for the Bradford House. Yet the Board is also aware of the wonderful events and projects that were conceived but never came to fruition. The Green Shingle Annual Wine Dinner The Placentia Founders Society Annual Wine Dinner was held on May 18 th at Florentines Grill in downtown Fullerton. We thank Joe Florentine for once again assisting us in planning an event with the maximum fund raising benefits. Everyone enjoyed the three course dinner and the selected paired wines to go with each course. The baskets were beautiful! One guest won a bottle of $150 wine from our Wine Grab Bag. Thanks to everyone who attended and a special thank you to those who attended and/or donated to this event. News from the Bradford House June 8th 2 to 4 PM Summer 2014 Docent Led Tours When a new event or project is discussed, there is a need for someone chair the project or just assist in its planning.we need the help of the membership to do this effectively. Would you consider helping?. Think about it. We will be listing Projects in-need so that those interested might assist. Please consider these when you see the list or contact us anytime at bradfordhse@yahoo.com or if interested. Thank you. 5:00 PM Annual Meeting & Picnic on the Lawn June 3oth End of Membership Year
2 Page 2 From the President s Desk: Alice Husovsky The Green Shingle information as needed. The past two years have been a wonderful experience for me as I served as President of The Placentia Founders Society. I would like to thank my Board for all the support and assistance they have provided to help me accomplish the many activities and changes we experienced. The updating of our website and electronic communication with our members has advanced our ability to keep in touch with the membership faster and more efficiently. While the old land mail took time and money to use we are now able to publish a full color newsletter at a greatly reduced cost. The new website provides up to date Rene Bradford Kamin has been instrumental in our obtaining the original Bradford Dining room set which is currently being restored in addition to the original Bradford Master Bedroom Set which is in excellent condition and will soon be displayed for all to enjoy. They are truly beautiful original pieces which we could never hope to replicate. Thank you to all for allowing me to serve as your president. I will take many fond memories with me. Sincerely, Alice Husovsky OLLI PFS Art Gallerie a Huge Success The Placentia Founders Society was pleased to host California State Fullerton Osher Life-Long Learning Institute s (OLLI) Art Show in March as part of our on-going Art Gallerie program. The OLLI program for seniors offers classes and activities in many areas including water colors, drawing, weaving, knitting, photography and ceramics, all of which were on display. Over fifty artists displayed their work, and nearly 150 visitors enjoyed the art show and a tour of the Bradford House. Special thanks go to PFS member John Walcek and OLLI instructor Joyce Ono.
3 Bradford Original Bedroom Set is Home We are pleased to have the original Bradford bedroom set back in the Bradford House where we certainly feel it belongs. With the assistance of Irene Kamins, it was donated by Reverand Donald McInness who purchased it in the 1970s when the house was emptied. Irene paid for the shipping from Oakland. The bedroom set was purchased by Hartwell Bradford while he was touring Italy in 1911, and it arrived in the US by ship. It is an absolutely beautiful Italian Renaissance bed, dressers, and bedside table. There are very intricate carvings on each piece. It has been placed in the large upstairs bedroom but is currently in need of a mattress to really show off its beauty. Come for our second Sunday tours to see this beautiful set. We offer special thanks torev. McInness and Irene Kamins. Photos Taken by John Walcek Bradford Family Historical Reenactment The Placentia Founders Society joined the Placentia Historical Committee and the Valencia High School Drama Department to once again present the historical reenactment of the first party held, in January 1903, once the Bradford House was completed. It was for Hartwell Bradford s 19 th birthday. Performances were held on May 17 at noon and 3 PM. The script for the play was written using primary sources such as family diaries and newspaper articles. The youngsters ran around the house, the women served food, the men played poker, and the teenagers actually sneaked a cup from the punchbowl.

In addition we thank all the community members who helped The Placentia Founders Society (PFS) raise our contribution to this goal by attending our restaurant fund-raisers throughout the year at Marie Calendars, Rubios, The Souplantation, and The Whole Enchilada. All proceeds from these events will assist with student tours in the coming school year.
