Mark Fink is now our Activities Director and Rich Ragan is our new Member at Large. Since one of his responsibilities is Sargeant-at-Arms, he came prepared with his flack jacket. I hope all of you will help the new board members by suggesting activities to Mark and being willing to be point person for our activities, and by bringing your concerns or suggestions for improving our club to the attention of Rich Ragan so he can make the board aware of them. I also want to thank Craig Kirkpatrick, Treasurer, and Norm Penrice, Membership Director, for agreeing to continue in those offices. A car show committee meeting was held on the April 22 nd. Since the committee members have been in place for the last few years everything is moving along well. Kent reported that our plans were approved at the SEI meeting with the City of Lincoln. He also discussed the plans we have worked out with the Downtown Business Association to have a Beer and Wine Garden plus a Shabby Chic Peddlers Faire in Beermann s Plaza the day of our show. In addition, the Experimental Aircraft Association will host an air show with a Ford Tri-Motor at the Lincoln Airport the weekend of our show. They are contacting the city in an effort to have a shuttle run from our show to the airport so our participants could also visit the show at the airport. It was reported that we have several wine tastings donated to our raffle. We are going to try to have a special raffle for them, selling tickets ahead of time and the winners will not have to be present for the drawing. I attended the ACCC spring Legislative Conference held at the California Auto Museum on the 29 th and 30th. The conference provides an opportunity to hear for some of our legislators and people in charge of the DMV, BAR as well as other people involved in our hobby. Our club is a member of ACCC and I am an individual member. I would urge you to consider joining ACCC. They are working on behalf of our hobby and need your support. We have two club promoted events in early May. The show at Century 21 is Saturday, May 2 nd, and the Townsmen show at the Loomis Train Depot is Saturday, May 9 th. Let s see how many cars we can get out for these shows. Drive Safe Ray Geiger, President

Bob Loew was present for his first meeting, Bob has a 68 Mustang. NEW BUSINESS Next month s meeting will be the time to Stuff the Goody Bags With no further business to discuss, Ray Geiger asked for a motion to adjourn. George Funk so moved and Craig Fraser seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M. Respectfully submitted Ed Branco, Secretary HALF MOON BAY Page 3 Hello everyone, a few of us trekked over to the annual car show at Half Moon Bay last Sunday. To say the least, the trip over was an adventure. All you can do is try to be safe & keep it straight, the bad news is Carl had a blowout and severely damaged his Forty Sedan. Once the tow truck arrived, the rest of us proceeded over to the coast. After getting settled in, we had a great dinner and fun times at Sam's Chowder House right by the water. They say it's crowded there on weekends, car show or not. What a great setting and great food. Well, you can never repeat the past. Long ago the show was pre 49's and cool, with old planes and drive-by s. Today the show accepts all new vehicles as well. I think this has hurt the specialty car turnout. Very crowded and very spread out. If you plan to go in the future, have comfortable walking shoes. The weather was cold and windy, sun did not help much in the morning. PLACES TO MEET UP WITH CAR GUYS Mel s Diner in Auburn hosts a show every Wednesday evening and gives participants a 20% discount on food AND if you belong to one of the airline dining points programs, you can also earn airline miles. What a deal! The Newcastle Lions have a Show and Shine the first Thursday of the month from May to October and they also give a discount for food. The Cappuccino Cruisers also have their Wednesday night show back where they were for years but is now a Denny s instead of a Red Robin. Tuesdays in Downtown Roseville is another Car Show in case you want to meet some new folks and see new cars. There is a lot to see, if you have the energy. For us, it was just too big and for me, too many new vehicles. They also charged $25.00 per adult to spectate. The only good thing about the show was the T -Shirts. Of course, I bought one. Unfortunately, not a show I will attend in the future. Page 3 A Taylor Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! Life is too short and friends are too few!

4 DOWNTOWN GRASS VALLEY CAR SHOW APRIL 25TH The weatherman predicted rain for the whole day of April 25th, the day of the Downtown Grass Valley was having its annual Car Show. I like this show, I have been to it a few times and had pre-registered for it and spent the middle of the week before the show getting the 55 good and clean and was determined to go rain or shine but was praying for SHINE! I woke up at 5 AM and got on the computer and checked out the weather for Grass Valley. Channel 9 said it, looks like rain for the whole day, oh well, and grabbed my umbrella and out the door I went. On the way to Grass Valley I encountered a light drizzle and a taste of what was ahead of me. I got to Grass Valley under a steady drizzle and things were not looking good. Just a handful of cars so I had my choice of a spot to park. The drizzle let up and from then on until about noon. We would have sunshine and then a light drizzle. I wiped my 55 off four times with diminished effort as most everyone else was of like attitude by then. They were expecting up to 350 cars, probably had 200 plus show up. In the afternoon the rain stopped and the sun and clouds took turns appearing and everyone spent the afternoon putting on their jacket. It was a cool afternoon but dry. The awards, about 20 of them, were passed out at 2:45. The Best of Show is an interesting tale. A guy won one of the lesser awards, so he decided to leave, the problem was, he was parked just around the corner, out of sight of the M.C. but not the rest of us. He made a lot of noise and took his sweet time leaving. Anyway, there were about three more awards to pass out with the last one being the Best of Show Award. Guess who won it? The guy who caused all the commotion by leaving early. When the MC announced the winner, a bunch of guys yelled out that it was the noisy entry that just left. The MC then asked should they send the award to him or give it to the next in line, everyone yelled, give it to the next in line, so the M C read off the next in line to win an award and he also had left early. OK now what? Would you believe the guy with the third most votes got the award. There is a message here It ain t over til its over. Ed McVey Page 4

Well, it s not mine but I am using this space to tell you that this is the Club newsletter and I would like more input from the club. How about keeping that in mind for next month s issue. I will not use your name if you do not want me to. A note from your editor Ray reported on the Car Show Meeting and the Car Show is rolling along. Lots of work to do still but activities are coming together. Folks are finding their niche so they don t need much direction until it doesn t come together and that does happen ever so often. We do have lots of folks stepping up to fill in the spaces. We no longer have a 2nd bedroom: we now have a Trophy Room and a bedroom. Though the trophies aren t ours, they are mighty nice. I believe Karen Funk has more than one room now dedicated to the Car Show. It is just that time of year. Our weekends are filled with trips to other Car Shows, to see what new ideas are out there and to get into the spirit. Lots of new-to-show cars are on the Show Trail many of our members have new-tothem cars for Show Time so I am looking forward to doing some traveling and seeing new things how about you!
