Editor] We start our tour at the Back Porch BBQ about 11:30a.m. in La Grange. The Back Porch BBQ is located at 1602 north Highway 77 (at the intersec on of Highway 71 and Highway 77). Your last Hubcap had all the tour highlights. We will hand out goody bags with all the informa on about the tour at the Back Porch or whenever you join us. See you there. Studebaker Sally Dynis (Nick) 61 Hawk (Plate: HRHAWK) Joe & Karen Clark 1940 Hudson With the weatherman delivering a clear, bright and sunny day we had a grand turn out for the February mee ng. Going by the sign in sheet (and I m pre y sure we didn t get everyone or every car listed) there were thirty six people and fi een classic cars: nine Studebakers and six others, in a endance. With all that sunshine there was plenty of re kicking in the parking lot both before and a er the actual mee ng. The large turn out resulted in people being a li le sca ered at several tables. While it was difficult, Mark managed to carry off the mee ng without a hitch. The food and service was very good and I m sure everyone had a great me.

5 The Hubcap Page 5 PRESIDENT S CORNER By Mark Brians Winter is finally winding down here in Texas, thank goodness. It has been slow going here in Belton working on cars. I have pre y well worn out my thermal long handles this year. Pain ng anything or gluing anything has been hard to do with cold, damp weather. I could not handle life up north. We are all set for our Spring Tour April 10, 11, 12, 2015 and have twenty five signed up to join us. We think this will be a fun tour. You may no ce some changes in the Hubcap in coming months as we have a new Editor. Nick Dynis has stepped up and is going to try his hand at producing an award winning Hubcap. B.B. and Hazel Holland have been Editor and staff for many years and deserve a break. Liz Hirschler will s ll be working her magic as we make this transi on. You will s ll see my ramblings in the Hubcap. Thank you Nick for stepping forward. Thank you B.B. and Hazel for all your years of service to the club. As a club we are only as good as our newsle er. Mark SWEETHEARTS AND ORPHANS MEET GRANBURY, TEXAS FEBRUARY 20 21, 2015 It was a nice meet, as always, as John and Jeannie Clements always do a great job pu ng it on. The weather was pre y good for February but did turn nasty on Sunday. We got up there early and went on the Friday tour and it was great. There were ten Studebakers, ten Hudsons, seven AMCs, and a host of other nice cars. There were about 80 cars in total. I flew our Chapter flag by the Avan and the wind kept it rocking. This is always a good meet even when the weather is trying and I wish more of our members could make it. Mark

6 Page 6 The Hubcap TECH TIPS By Mark Brians It is fast ge ng to Spring again and me to get out those old cars that have been si ng all winter. Your first mistake was le ng it sit all winter without driving it. I too have been lazy and let some get away from me but now it is me to catch up. That old gas in the tank is the most pressing thing. If you remove the gas cap and it smells like something dead you need to pump it out and put in fresh gas. Even if you put in Staybill stabilizer it may cause you untold problems if you try and burn it up. Adding more gas to the tank may just make more bad gas. I have seen several engines started on bad gas that seemed to run bad but smoothed out when it came to temperature. The next day several valves stuck and it ran poorly. I have seen some that would not even start because an intake stuck open and put air pressure back into the intake manifold. Not to scare anyone but bad gas is bad news. You might get away with just filling it up and burning it up but... what if you don t? This also applies to that new car you just got that has been se ng for who knows how many years. An oil change is also in order and a grease job. Lubing the hood latch and cable can prevent your hood from flying up. Make sure the safety latch is working. Lubing door latches can prevent broken windows from slamming doors. Oiling trunk hinges will prevent breaking hinges and kinking trunk lids. This also applies to hood hinges. Check those res for wear or cracks that might indicate impending failure. When you drive the car those res should smooth out a er a few miles. If it pulls to one side or you hear a thump then you should head for your re dealer. Radial res can cause thousands of dollars of damage if a belt comes off at 65mph. A few hours spent on your car can prevent those pesky breakdowns. Remember that your car is only as good as its weakest part. Keep those old cars running with preven ve maintenance. 7 The Hubcap Page 7 CORN ETHANOL MANDATE ELIMINATION ACT OF 2015 By Nick Dynis I don t know a single classic car owner who would tell you that they think ethanol in our fuel is a good thing. I think we all agree that the damage it does to our engines, fuel lines, fuel tanks, and everything it touches far exceeds any benefit that the world as a whole might receive from its use. That is what makes it come as such a surprise that some elected officials in Washington D.C. would also think it is a bad idea. I would think that every classic car owner might want to take a few seconds and fire off an to your elected Representa ves and Senators and tell them you support the move to limit the use of corn ethanol in fuel. It is one of those issues that the lobbyists will se le for us unless we, who are the most directly affected, take the me to voice our opinion. Republican or Democrat I think we can agree that corn ethanol is a bad idea in our fuel. Ask your elected officials to support the Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimina on Act of THE HUBCAP In The Hubcap, our goal is to inform club members about club ac vi es, offer news about Studebakers and Studebaker people, along with ideas and comments concerning both. Contribu ons are welcome from all club members, although we reserve the right to edit and select on the basis of topicality and general interest. Submit material to "The Hubcap, c/o Nick Dynis, P.O.
