From The Director Doug Spire Wow!!! What a great ride the LOH Osage Beach Getaway turned out to be. For those of you that did not go, you missed a fabulous me!! It was a perfect weekend for spring riding and, although we did hit a few small rain showers over the three days, we all made it back before the big storm hit on Sunday evening. It was a well planned ac vity that Linda and Blake put together that included various ac vi es from riding the back roads and some Interstates of Missouri to visi ng the local leather shop on the dam. We all road a lot of miles (my total trip odometer showed 951 miles), ate plenty, and had great mes on the hotel water slides. We have a lot more great rides planned so go out to the ac vi es sign-up and plan to a end some of these fun filled things. The NE State HOG Rally pre-registra on website has now opened so go out there and get signed up early. There is going to be mul ple ac vi es going on for the Rally this year including a lot of different types of rides, a walking poker run in The Old Market, biker games, and much, much more. Other upcoming State Rallies that are happening over the next couple of months in neighboring states are: Arkansas-Hot Springs South Dakota-Watertown Wisconsin-Wisconsin Dells Colorado-Snow Mass Missouri-Springfield June 5-7 June June June June h p:// h p:// h p:// h p:// h p:// Minnesota-Brainerd Lakes Area June h p:// Illinois-Quincy July h p://

From Our Assistant Diretor/Safety Officer Jim Lottman Just want to introduce myself as the new Assistant Director. You are wondering where have I seen that name before. Well I am also your current Safety Officer. I became the new Assistant Director when it became vacant a er Doug Spire took the posi on of Director with the stepping down of Mark Henry as Director. Good luck Mark on your new posi on you will be missed. I look forward to the challenges as Assistant Director and have come across some already. We have ended the month of May with the 2 nd Annual HD Poker Run which turned out to be a complete success and a successful overnight to trip to Osage Beach. June looks to be a busy month with several chapter and Dillion Brothers events planned. Now that we are having more warmer riding days, more bikes will be on the road. This is where I will put on the Safety Officer s hat and talk about safety with some ps. 1. Make eye contact 2. Read vehicle language 3. Watch out for le -turning vehicles at intersec ons 4. Check behind when turning le from a highway 5. Look out for hazardous road condi ons 6. Take it easy on the curves 7. Wear a good helmet 8. Wear protec ve clothing designed for motorcycle riders 9. Protect your eyes and face 10. Be visible Hopefully next month s newsle er will have more from me as the Assistant Director as I get more accustomed to the posi on. If you have any sugges ons or ideas for future newsle ers please me at jim@evhog.net Jim

News from our Head Road Captain Chuck Meier The Winter Frozen Spoke results are out. Congratula ons to our winners and thanks to the other par cipants. Par cipa on and miles were down from last year due to the long hard winter but we s ll awarded $500 in total prizes to par cipants. They also get benefits from Dillon s on re purchases. If your name is listed as a winner and you haven t received your gi card, see me. There is s ll me to have your mileage recorded for the Summer Sweat Hog contest. I have to ask, Why wouldn t you par cipate? It costs nothing and you all have chances to win prizes and get benefits. All you have to do is provide a dated picture of you mileage or have a road captain or HOG officer record the mileage. Let s get out and ride for fun and a chance for prizes. Chuck

From Our Ladies of Harley Officer Linda Westerhold We had such an even ul month and ended with an even more even ul trip to Osage Beach. For everyone who was able to make the trip, thank you for sharing in the fun with all of us. For those who were not able to go, you were with us in spirit because in the spirit of Harley Davidson and LOH, we rode and had a TON of FUN! With the weather forecast looming over our weekend plans at every turn with gloom of stormy weather, our group happily found beau ful partly sunny skies and great roads. The women brought their Sunday best hats and enjoyed the day at the Shady Gables Tea House sampling just a few of over 100 different flavors, laughing, and touring the area shops. Oh yea, and there was that small thing with the town s mayor, LOH and a tub, but that s a story for another day. At the end of the day we relaxed at the hotel pools and water slides. If we could say one thing for sure about the hot tubs, it would be that a max capacity ra ng is merely a sugges on and not always a limita- on. Just like everything else along this trip, there were no limits to just how much laughter came out with everything we enjoyed together. We re removing the Progressive Dinner on the 21 st in order to support the poker run to raise money for Tim Cacioppo and his family. Tim was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Registra on is from Dillon Brothers in Omaha at 10am. Kickstands up at 11 am. Let s show up as a chapter together in support of this fundraiser, Dillon Brothers, and EVHOG. All stops on the Cacioppo Poker Run will hit Rumble Run partner businesses so don't forget your stamp booklets. For now, I ll be keeping my wheels on my bike turning and a smile in my heart with all the fun memories shared on our LOH adventures together!

The View from the Back of the Bike Then and Now Ken and Lisa Logan - Tad Volkmann tad@evhog.net I remember the day Ken told me he was buying a motorcycle I told him to do whatever he thought was right and I couldn t stop it. But I wasn t happy. I was petrified something would happen to him. He bought a 2003 Road King, it looked nice and he rode by himself for almost 8 months. One Sunday he said he was going for a ride.i thought about spending another Sunday a ernoon by myself and decided I wanted to tag along. He let me ride behind him with the worst helmet I had ever seen. But I went, we survived and I was hooked. The first me we decided to ride with the EVHOG members, we showed up not having any idea what to expect, and we were no more off the Harley and Cecil had his hand out welcoming us to the ride and Pa was right behind him. They made strangers feel totally welcome! We made some good acquaintances that day.and rode behind a couple (Bob & Holly) that had a bigger Harley (Ultra Classic) that had music. I wanted Ken to get closer so I could hear the music and asked him why we didn t have a Harley like that.he bought his first Ultra shortly a er that. I remember telling Pa I would never wear chaps (I do!) I would never ride my own Harley (I do!)..i ve eaten those words so many mes and Pa s enjoys telling me I told you so.! We also became volunteers for the Day of the HOG that year, we met Derek Caster who was that years Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Associa on and walking with no visible signs of having muscular Dystrophy and his fabulous family. Darin, Tammy and his sister Courtney. We enjoyed ge ng to know that family and they re now a huge part of our family as well as the EVHOG Family. A lot has changed in the last 11 years; Derek is now in a wheelchair full me, he s a college student now and designs our Day of the HOG Flyer. His posi ve a tude is so inspiring. Con nued next page

The View from the Back of the Bike - Tad Volkmann Then and Now Ken and Lisa Logan con nued Our first long trip was with a group of EVH members and we called it the Lobster Run. 2 newer lady riders (Cathy Welchert & Darlene Carr) were on that trip with us, it was inspiring to watch those ladies as well as Pa make it through that almost 5000 mile trip, we visited the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, rode through the Adirondack mountains, took a ferry over to Champlain, IL, down to Laconia NH (in the pouring rain for 2 days), up to Bar Harbor Maine for lobster, northward to two provinces in Canada, (in torren al downpours, back south through the Wisconsin Dells and home What a fabulous me we had! I truly never thought I would see parts of the United States & Canada that we ve seen in our travels. Our next long trip we went Down Mexico Way, some of the same EVH friends we traveled with from the 1 st trip were on this road trip with us too, Tony & Lu met us later, there were 9 of us on this trip. We headed towards Texas for the ROT Rally (Republic of Texas) oh my the things we saw the biker that cked Pa off so bad she screamed at him & the much older lady walking through the venue in a thong (YUCK!). We rented a 3 bedroom Condo, right on the ocean in South Padre. We unloaded our the condo, and went to the grocery store with grocery list in hand on our motorcycles, and filled the side bags and tour packs with groceries, ice and adult beverages, it was hilarious. We headed to Mexico explored, bought lots of silver, trinkets, tequila, Cathy bought this HUGE star (it s in her great room) and they fastened it on the back of Gener s tour pack needless to say we asked them to sweep! One of our dear friends challenged one of the women, if she would parasail, he would drink (he doesn t drink). She accepted and game on.when we got back from Mexico that evening we proceeded to watch that challenge. He drank, we laughed and laughed we went crab catching in the dark with flashlights as he chased us around with the crabs..he yells when he s inebriated so hilarious! And she parasailed the following day, not once but twice and loved it! Next we headed to the lake house owned by Pat & Carl, and we hopped into the boat and on jet skis. Once I rode the jetski and had that power, I knew I wanted to learn how to ride my own Harley! Ken & I broke off from the group to head to Colorado Springs to see my son, daughter in law and grandkids. On the way home from our 4300 mile trip, we had a re go flat on the Ultra, on the interstate, surrounded by semis, with no place to pull over, Ken did a fabulous job ge ng that Ultra into the grassy median before he lost control of it, We both survived the accident, he with concussion and broken collarbone, I tore a tendon in my shoulder and we both knew we would be riding again soon. Ken gave me a gi cer ficate for the rider s edge class in I took the class and passed to my surprise! I rode Ken s BMW un l I got my confidence level up and bought my 1st Street Glide in I truly enjoy riding my own Harley and have experienced Canada and our Michigan trip on my own Harley, and have loved every minute of it! I just recently purchased my third Harley the mysterious red Street Glide Special I have met some of my dearest friends either on the back of Ken s bike or on my own, I can t tell you how blessed I feel being part of the group of women who are Ladies of Harley. We have a unique bond, and just think 11 years ago I never even wanted to get on a Harley, let alone own my own ride. The mes have certainly changed. Lisa Logan I am looking for EVHOG members interested in being featured in the Then and Now series. Please photos of you and your bike then (when you joined EVHOG) and today, and a write up about you (and your partner if applicable), to TAD@EVHOG.net.
