1 Tandridge Nhw Bulletin 2 This message has specifically been sent to Coordinators and not other members of the community or your scheme members. Please share as you feel is appropriate using the Share button below. Tandridge Neighbourhood Watch Newsletter Bulletin 2 January 3rd January 16th 2019 Dear Neighbourhood Watch Members You may notice from the reports in this Bulletin that we have had a slight increase in reports of shed and garage breaks. Please ensure these are kept secure and consider further securing equipment stored within them. We currently have patrols out in the hours of darkness in hot spot areas. I would urge you all to report any suspicious activity witnessed at the time. You will also read of another success last year of the proactive team I referred to in 2018 Bulletin 25. Two of our officers PC Phil Howells and PC David Every made what was the largest seizure in Surrey Police history after stopping a car carrying nitrous oxide canisters because a member of the public had called 101 after he had seen the vehicle behaving suspiciously in Crawley. It just goes to show that if you are concerned about something let us know on 101. Dan Gutierrez Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Inspector If your area is not referred to below it is because we have not been informed of the crime or it has not been affected by reported crime in the categories below. Feedback from you will help to achieve the most appropriate circulation of information. CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

2 Our Area Patrol Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with over the last two weeks together with some Court results. On January 2 nd a vehicle was stopped in Godstone and the male driver was found to be driving whilst disqualified and had no insurance. On January 3 rd a male and a female were involved in a theft from a supermarket. The car they drove off in failed to stop for police and after a short pursuit it was abandoned in Torwood Lane, Whyteleafe. Two suspects were arrested shortly afterwards for a number of offences including shoplifting, assault, public order offences and driving offences. Enquiries continue. An unusual one which did take some googling to work out what we were looking for. A Groundhog Mobile Welfare Unit was stolen from the M23 roadworks in Sussex over the New Year period. It's the workers canteen and toilets. With some help from our Reigate and Banstead colleagues who were nearby it was located on January 7th in Newchapel. The person present claimed 'they found it in a layby'. Following recovery it is in the process of being returned to the rightful owners. Kabello Monyebudi, 23, of St Johns Road, Redhill, and Harry Tickner, 22, of Alexander Crescent, Caterham have just been sentenced to two and a half years after being found guilty of possessing cocaine with intent to supply. Tickner also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply and was given a 12 month sentence to be served concurrently. The pair were arrested on 23rd April 2017 in Oxted after their car was stopped in the evening by police on patrol and subsequently searched. A crisp packet containing multiple wraps of cannabis was discovered inside the vehicle and both men were arrested. The pair were put into the back of a police van for transport to custody and then attempted to discard 14 wraps of cocaine which had been concealed in their underwear. Following an investigation it was proven both Monyebudi and Tickner were working together to supply the cocaine within the Surrey area. Operation Spearhead has been running for some time with overt and covert officers and staff deployed solely to prevent burglaries and catch offenders. Readers will recall that on November 7 th 2018 a male was arrested after a high speed car chase when he jumped over a wall on the A22 Wapses Lodge Roundabout after crashing the car. On January 3 rd Tony Lee Grant, 29, of no fixed address was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court for 6 years after being found guilty of a string of burglaries and thefts of high value vehicles across the county. He was also given a four and a half year driving suspension, which will start upon his release. Following his arrest in November, Grant was charged with 21 offences and during the investigation Grant also took the opportunity to admit to 24 other offences. Intelligence gathered from CCTV, automatic number plate recognition and telephone data linked Grant to the areas in which the burglaries took place and he was forensically linked to one stolen vehicle after his DNA and a large amount of stolen property was found inside it. On January 10 th in South Godstone following information received a cannabis plant was found growing in a summer house and two suspects are currently being investigated.

3 On January 11 th in the Titsey area of Oxted a Transit van was stopped for having no insurance. The male driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He was also arrested for possession of cannabis, possession of a firearm and a crossbow. He has been released under investigation. On January 11 th semi-professional footballer Leon Redwood, 27 of Commonwealth Drive, Crawley was sentenced to 60 hours unpaid work, 85 victim surcharge and 85 costs after pleading guilty to possession of psychiatric substances with intent to supply. As a result of a 101 call from a member of the public Redwood s car was stopped by the Tandridge proactive team in Lingfield on 26 th July ,500 canisters of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) were discovered as well as balloons and devices to transfer the gas from the canister to the balloon. In 2016 eight people died after inhaling the substance whilst prolonged exposure may result in bone marrow suppression and poisoning of the central nervous system. The risks are more acute if exposure to the gas is combined with alcohol or other drugs. Local officers patrolling the Whyteleafe area at night on January 11 th undertook a vehicle stop check. The driver tried to run away before violently resisting officers, causing several injuries. After searching the male and his vehicle he was found to be in possession of white powder and a knuckle duster. The driver has been charged to court with drink driving, possession of a class A drug, possession of an offensive weapon, resisting police, failing to stop for a constable, and driving without an MOT. A male was arrested in Westerham Road, Oxted on January 13 th on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drugs. Three men, who used stolen motorcycles, have been jailed for stealing 60,000 worth of jewellery in a series of 21 burglaries across Southern England between November 2017 and July 2018 including ones in Butlers Dene Road, Woldingham and Homefield Road, Warlingham in January Lewis Kelleher (31) of Portsmouth, Richard Hart (34) and Sami Hussain (25) both of Hammersmith were sentenced to 5 years 7 months, 4 years 3 months and 2 years respectively for conspiracy to commit burglary. On January 15 th a vehicle failed to stop for police after driving through a red traffic light on the A22. After a pursuit the vehicle, which had been stolen, was abandoned in a field in Oxted.
